10-26-21 many shops, set up is similar to Waikele Outlets: not an indoor mall.

10-26-21 If you choose a hotel in the PDX area(Portland Airport) and have a rent a car, you'll be set and in the vicinity of Cascade Station. We were at Hampton Inn and I searched to food close by. Many eateries that popped up were about a mile away. Come to find out many were here at Cascade Station which is like a mall with many shops and eating places. We chose Mediterranean food but there are many other options. I wanted to go to Home Goods afterwards because I've found nice seasonal items at this chain even in Massachusetts. Even if you don't have a car there are some hotels right across the street. We've stayed at Hyatt Place before. Very convenient location with reasonable priced shops and food venues.

This outlet offers mostly womens' clothing stores such as Nordstrom Rack, Banana Republic, Ross, Loft Outlet, etc. You'll find the summer clothes at a higher discount now. One store offered an additional 40% discount off the last price. It's time to hit these stores now if you're looking for summer bargains. If you're in search of home décor, you must visit Home Goods! I fell in love with their unique items whether it's something for your kitchen or living space. They already had some Halloween decorations! The mall is located near the Portland Airport with several eateries nearby. A great place to grab a bite after shopping or enroute to the airport.

Cascade Station is a sprawling outdoor shopping center located just two and a half miles from PDX. There is plenty of free parking available and the MAX red line stops here on its way to the airport. Cascade Station offers a nice variety of retail shopping and dining. Along one side you will find the larger stores including Ross, DSW, HomeGoods, Nordsrom Rack, ULTA, Staples and Marshalls. On one end there is a Best Buy and a PetSmart. A bit removed, on the other end you'll find IKEA, which has its own parking area. Completing the square is a line of smaller sized retail shops and restaurants. These include Carhartt, Starbucks, GNC, Baba's Mediterranean Grill and T-Mobile. Stanley Park is a pleasant strip of greenery that runs alongside Cascades Parkway on the outer edge of Cascade Station. There are bench areas here and it's a nice spot to sit and contemplate your days shopping while enjoying a coffee or snack. I visit Cascade Station often and always leave carrying several shopping bags.

Wonderful shops and quick bites to eat with free ample parking is here next to the airport for some last minute tax free shopping. The stores seem to have more selections here because of the heavier traffic that shops here. Stores like Marshall's, Ross, Ann Taylor Loft, Best Buy, Bed, Bath and Beyond are all found here. The styles are also more up to date here than the city and metro areas.

However, coming from downtown, for some reason, I got off one stop early. All reason went out the window when I saw Ikea and the Cascades train stop. I got out there and ended up walking something like a half-mile to get to Target. With the help of a couple of extra OTC painkillers, I made it, and only had to sit down a couple of times. I appreciated that the parking lot had sidewalks and crosswalks. It's like so many other Target stores, although I have never seen a CVS inside a Target. (In Hawaii, CVS is still Longs Drugs and they are free-standing. I looked for a certain brand of travel-sized toothpaste; there wasn't any. The bin contained only regular-sized tubes. Many of the travel-size section bins were empty. I also wanted a certain brand of waterproof black mascara. It would be cheaper here than in Hawaii. (Strangely, mascara can't be shipped to Hawaii.) What I wanted was near the floor, making them tough to see and read, and none of the tags were right. I checked all the tubes, and none of them were what I was looking for. I'm now 0 for 2. Next I headed to the grocery section. The fresh food section, particularly the fresh meat section, seemed smaller than others I've seen. There wasn't much on sale, either. I didn't have a ton of stuff, but I was having trouble carrying it. I checked in two spots for a basket, and both were out. There were two human checkers on duty with a few people in line for both. The line for self-checkout was long. Staff responded and opened up two more lanes. The person helping me was pleasant and chatty. It was just a bummer they didn't have two things I was specifically looking for. It was still an okay experience, and I got some unintended exercise. We'll see how much my arthritic joints ache tomorrow.

It's easy to navigate even when under construction and was very clean. We stopped by the bathrooms first and they were completely gender-neutral and super clean which I very much appreciated. We were able to fill up our water bottles before shopping, a relief because I had just filled my water bottle with water that didn't taste great so I was able to dump it out and get good water instead. The store itself was clean and had fun stuff to look at. I ended up getting a couple of little things, spending about $15. There were employees everywhere ready to help but not intruding, so we were able to wander without feeling pressured to buy anything. Check out was quick and easy. The whole store was very nice, very clean, and very welcoming. It felt safe and inclusive, which I appreciated as a queer person. Would definitely go back for more wandering!

Trying to checkout with the kids is nearly impossible as they are trying to scan items over and over again. I am extremely displeased that you won't have ANY cashiers at registers, even for families with disabilities. I am considering not continuing to shop at IKEA for this reason. Also, the kid area was entirely closed today. But generally I'm disappointed as my 9-year-old and 2-year-old want to go but only the 6-year-old is the correct size. This is discriminatory toward boys generally as they tend to get bigger quicker. You should allow any kid who wants to play (and not be closed on a random Sunday!).
