I went to Ikea and just to Marshall's and that took the entire day haha. Okay it took half a day. Next time, this will be a day trip. Lots of stores and I think things are slightly cheaper than elsewhere. Lots of stores for all people and a variety of food, too. There's a lot of parking but going on a Saturday....it felt like it took forever to find a spot so keep that in mind! It's best to go on a non rainy day haha as here's no covering between the stores but being an Oregonian, I am OK! haha.

10-26-21 many shops, set up is similar to Waikele Outlets: not an indoor mall.

10-26-21 If you choose a hotel in the PDX area(Portland Airport) and have a rent a car, you'll be set and in the vicinity of Cascade Station. We were at Hampton Inn and I searched to food close by. Many eateries that popped up were about a mile away. Come to find out many were here at Cascade Station which is like a mall with many shops and eating places. We chose Mediterranean food but there are many other options. I wanted to go to Home Goods afterwards because I've found nice seasonal items at this chain even in Massachusetts. Even if you don't have a car there are some hotels right across the street. We've stayed at Hyatt Place before. Very convenient location with reasonable priced shops and food venues.

This outlet offers mostly womens' clothing stores such as Nordstrom Rack, Banana Republic, Ross, Loft Outlet, etc. You'll find the summer clothes at a higher discount now. One store offered an additional 40% discount off the last price. It's time to hit these stores now if you're looking for summer bargains. If you're in search of home décor, you must visit Home Goods! I fell in love with their unique items whether it's something for your kitchen or living space. They already had some Halloween decorations! The mall is located near the Portland Airport with several eateries nearby. A great place to grab a bite after shopping or enroute to the airport.

Cascade Station is a sprawling outdoor shopping center located just two and a half miles from PDX. There is plenty of free parking available and the MAX red line stops here on its way to the airport. Cascade Station offers a nice variety of retail shopping and dining. Along one side you will find the larger stores including Ross, DSW, HomeGoods, Nordsrom Rack, ULTA, Staples and Marshalls. On one end there is a Best Buy and a PetSmart. A bit removed, on the other end you'll find IKEA, which has its own parking area. Completing the square is a line of smaller sized retail shops and restaurants. These include Carhartt, Starbucks, GNC, Baba's Mediterranean Grill and T-Mobile. Stanley Park is a pleasant strip of greenery that runs alongside Cascades Parkway on the outer edge of Cascade Station. There are bench areas here and it's a nice spot to sit and contemplate your days shopping while enjoying a coffee or snack. I visit Cascade Station often and always leave carrying several shopping bags.

Wonderful shops and quick bites to eat with free ample parking is here next to the airport for some last minute tax free shopping. The stores seem to have more selections here because of the heavier traffic that shops here. Stores like Marshall's, Ross, Ann Taylor Loft, Best Buy, Bed, Bath and Beyond are all found here. The styles are also more up to date here than the city and metro areas.

However, coming from downtown, for some reason, I got off one stop early. All reason went out the window when I saw Ikea and the Cascades train stop. I got out there and ended up walking something like a half-mile to get to Target. With the help of a couple of extra OTC painkillers, I made it, and only had to sit down a couple of times. I appreciated that the parking lot had sidewalks and crosswalks. It's like so many other Target stores, although I have never seen a CVS inside a Target. (In Hawaii, CVS is still Longs Drugs and they are free-standing. I looked for a certain brand of travel-sized toothpaste; there wasn't any. The bin contained only regular-sized tubes. Many of the travel-size section bins were empty. I also wanted a certain brand of waterproof black mascara. It would be cheaper here than in Hawaii. (Strangely, mascara can't be shipped to Hawaii.) What I wanted was near the floor, making them tough to see and read, and none of the tags were right. I checked all the tubes, and none of them were what I was looking for. I'm now 0 for 2. Next I headed to the grocery section. The fresh food section, particularly the fresh meat section, seemed smaller than others I've seen. There wasn't much on sale, either. I didn't have a ton of stuff, but I was having trouble carrying it. I checked in two spots for a basket, and both were out. There were two human checkers on duty with a few people in line for both. The line for self-checkout was long. Staff responded and opened up two more lanes. The person helping me was pleasant and chatty. It was just a bummer they didn't have two things I was specifically looking for. It was still an okay experience, and I got some unintended exercise. We'll see how much my arthritic joints ache tomorrow.

Shopping in Portland, Oregon…read more.. While driving from Seattle, Washington to Portland, I noticed IKEA close to the border between the States. Knowing that Oregon doesn't have sales tax. I suggested to my niece that she get her bigger desk here. She agreed! After browsing through the sales items, cute plushies, kitchen gadgets, and interesting displays, we used the clean restroom and loaded the shopping cart. My niece looked up the gaming desk's number and found the aisle where the box was located. We rolled the flat to the check out line and while we waited, I started scanning the UPC codes on the IKEA app. We skipped the line and went to pay! We even got a free large blue bag for self-scanning our purchases! Yippee! The trick was to get the $79.99 desk into our rental car. Erin, the helpful employee at the checkout station, reassured us that we could return the desk if we couldn't fit it into the car... even after we took it out of the box. We had to try. The price of the desk was great! It wasn't available online. If we had it delivered, we'd be charged Washington sales tax whick would defeat the purpose. There was no other option. We took the desk out of the box in the light rain, removed the packing materials, placed the desk legs in the trunk of the car, and maneuvered the desk top so that one corner touched the glass of the rear window and the sides rested against the back of my driver's seat (which was pushed all the way forward) and my niece's seat was pushed down as flat as it could go. She was still able to take a nap on the desktop for the 2.5 hour drive! LOL! It sure was a memorable adventure which was super productive and promoted teamwork, positive attitude, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills!

At the store, one third of my items were out-of-stock or listed as "not at this store." Disappointing. When I asked a staff member why items are missing, he said, "lots of things walk out the door," meaning "stolen." Hmmmm....could the problem be the ridiculous self-check out system, that foists the labor onto customers, and causes shrinkage? It didn't work for Walmart....apparently, not working here either. Many of my favorite items were discontinued. The wonderful Lingonberry Sylt sauce is now some sort of jam spread. The food court is no more (remember the soft-serve cones and warm cinnamon rolls?) Many shelves had empty spots. The pretty Scandinavian designs and colors are no more, replaced by dark, dour colors and bizarre prints and patterns. Prices are much higher for the same "quality." I tried shopping online. If you purchase $50. of lightweight or small items, shipping is free....except it isn't. Tried to place an order...no free shipping...called customer service who insisted that my items weighed 50lbs when in reality, they were under 10lbs. Weird. Canceled my order. I miss the innovation and warmth of Ikea. I can easily find similar items on Amazon, but it used to be fun to browse and shop here. Seems like Ikea has lost its soul. No plans to come back...ever. (the two stars are for the gentleman who assisted me in finding items on the main floor. They need an aisle/bay numbering system like Home Depot where you can go right to an item. Their automated screens that tell you a lamp is "in the Lighting Dept" is of no help)

This store is an average dollar store in every way: not the biggest, not the smallest, not the nicest, not the worst. It's clean, it's well-stocked, it's got the usual fare, it's great for party supplies and crafting stuff and non-brand name snacks and cosmetics and lots of holiday and seasonal items. There are a few brand name items in the mix, too. I got a few brand name Scrunchie hair ties and a nylon mesh shower puff, as good as the ones I just saw an hour ago in Target that cost four times more. I should note that all items in this store cost $1.25. Also, while carrying around a lot of items, I asked a woman employee where I could find a basket or cart and she smiled and apologized, saying they all were stolen. (Wow, so sad). She was nice enough to get me a plastic bucket for sale and said to just tell the cashier when checking out that I didn't want the bucket. Okay. I'm not that familiar with Portland neighborhoods, but I suspect this store isn't in the best 'hood. There were a few shady customers in the store, and clearly they have a major theft problem if all their carts were stolen. But this woman employee was friendly and helpful, and the guy at the cash was nice enough. And you can't beat the prices for many of these items.
