On the day we visited, we took the number 1 bus along Congress Street, but it's also easily accessible on foot. We almost missed it because of the scaffolding outside, but we were so happy we didn't lose the chance to visit this local treasure. And it IS a treasure. Don't mind the scaffolding outside and make your way in to explore if you are close by exploring when they are open. The store goes a lot further back than you would expect and the huge amount of books here means you could spend a long time browsing. Despite the narrow spaces and books being everywhere it is organized well and you will find lots of signs listing the current genre you are looking at. Which speaking of they offer so much I think everyone will find some books that catch your eyes here. Being a used bookstore they did have a good mix of older books while appearing to have more fresh and modern titles available as well. Prices seemed reasonable for the few I looked at. My wife almost bought a couple books but in the end just browsed but would highly recommend coming here for any book lovers. I would even say one of the better used bookshops we have visited! You may just find your next unexpected book you have to read.

Well, this entire place is like a showroom of that paradise. I wanted to touch and play with everything. I adore places like this! By no means am I (yet) an antiquarian book collector; I've watched some YouTube videos and have been advised that once you start collecting, there's no end. I also can't read, so that isn't very helpful. I spent a fair amount of time perusing the shelves for a book I might buy, paying closer attention to the old hardbound volumes with decorative covers. There are many of them, but not all of them desirable. Behind the counter and hidden away is the good stuff you probably can't afford. I did walk away with a few inexpensive items, positive I would come back, not least thanks to chatting with Cathy, one of the owners, at the counter. What could have been a simple 5-second exchange, turned into a glorious reverie that I would gladly make a journey for, to have the pleasure of again.

It feels like a bookstore in Portland for Mainers: it's not trendy, it's not trying to wow you with its aesthetics, it's not in a part of town you'd just stumble upon. You are going out of your way to come here, and the immediate community you'll feel inside isn't something you're going to find at tourist-located spots that are dependent on foot traffic. + There's parking! + It's women-owned! + Got to overhear some lovely conversations between the owner and the customers like she genuinely knew everyone who shopped there/everyone was an extended family member! Tons of parking available due to their location in a strip mall like area. Just like all of the other Sherman's they don't just offer books, you will find a huge variety of trinkets, gifts, and more. This is one of the nicer overall setups I think, nowhere felt that crammed and most spots had space to get by people even if busy. Don't forget to check out the section of books that are on sale, find your next read at a large discount! Also to note you will likely also come across the picks from the staff which is another great area to check out for some recommendations to read next. My wife could spend hours browsing these Sherman's (any bookstore for that matter). Staff were friendly and since this is such a local location I suspect we will return!

All of them will offer a great variety of classics and new and popular books available. They also all have a great amount of books that are on sale and you can find some great deals on books. A section worth looking through no matter the location. The best thing about this particular location is the fact they aren't crammed space wise and even if it were busy I wouldn't have felt claustrophobic. That positive does make it a better location than a few of the others. Although I do believe this one kinda falls a little short being uninspired and lacking a great charm to it. The staff we interacted with were friendly but it only occurred when checking out. It's a solid location and worth visiting just not our favorite Sherman's. Like all the other locations they have far more than books and lots of items everyone will like!
