Stopped by Casa Ramos, one of those neighborhood spots you hit when you want good food without all the hype. Prices are fair and the food delivers. I got the carne asada al mojo ($17) and a piña colada ($15), and both were solid. The meat had good flavor and the drink was refreshing -- did not disappoint. Service was friendly, just a little slow at the start waiting for someone to take our order, so that's why it's 4 stars instead of 5. Once we ordered, everything went smooth. Restrooms were clean, which matters. Parking is street parking, but that's pretty normal around the neighborhood. Overall, it's a chill local spot with good food and prices -- I'd come back for sure. Went here on the recommendation of a few locals. Certainly not disappointed. Food and drinks were great - and service was above par. The decor and ambiance is much like other Midwestern Mexican restaurants, but has a different vibe. Stuck with seafood and vegetarian options. This is a great place to eat and enjoy your evening! This new location incorporates a wonderful inside restaurant and a great outdoor patio for special events and Fiestas. Carlos the owner has really gone out of the way to make his newest venture a crowd and family favorite. This is a must visit for the cool interior design with the Mi Corizon tree and the angel wings and of course catch a flight of shots or margaritas to start your adventure. Oh and did I mention the free chips and Salsas to start while you make up your Mind on delicious drinks and entrees to fill you up. Big portions and great service are the standard. The food is good but think the service needs improvement. We waited long at every part of the process from getting seated, ordering, and getting our food. We came here for lunch on a Thursday and it did not seem busy but our party of 3 stood waiting around for about 15 minutes for a table. Thinking it was busy inside, we gave the benefit of the doubt given labor shortages, but the place was fairly empty. Then when it came to ordering or getting our check, it was a bit difficult to track down the waiter and their timing of "be back in a bit" was an average of 10 minutes or so. The food is good though including the margs (so many flavors like peach and mango!) They were delicious. If the service were to improve then I would come back here in a heartbeat. Casa Ramos was a great stop while we were visiting Emporia Kansas during the Dynamic Discs Open. It had some great reviews, so we wanted to give it a try. My husband and I ordered margarita's. I got the Jenny Margarita, which was HUGE! My husband got a traditional margarita. We agreed that he and I should have both ordered the Jenny Margarita. It was more expensive, but it tasted better. We shared an order of jalapeño poppers, he ordered a massive platter of food (I don't remember what it is called on the menu), and I ordered chicken enchiladas with a mole sauce on top. My husband also decided to order dessert, and he opted for the flan. I'm giving it 4 stars because the flan wasn't that good. I'm not into these types of desserts, but I like to try to be open minded. The flan must have had several air bubbles when it was cooked because when it was served, it looked a little too spongy. All of the other food was great, but the portions were massive. I could have honestly not eaten anything the next day because I was still so full from the dinner that we had at Casa Ramos. read more

Looking in from the street I did not imagine the inside of the restaurant to look the way it did (which is amazing). They really nailed the aesthetic. The food itself was good and I really enjoyed my meal but it was the staff that really sold this place. Our waiter was extremely attentive and went above and beyond when a young boy at another table fell out of his chair. All in all a great place to eat with a stellar staff (it helps they also make a good margarita). I will definitely be in again in the near future. read more

There were 9 of us for dinner tonight. Two of us shared fajitas for 2. Chicken and steak. The chicken was good. The steak was terrible! 4 of us tried it and it was extremely chewy. So needless to say half of the fajitas didn't get eaten. I did let one of the gals know. She was very apologetic and nice about it. Another server came and asked how we wanted our bill split. It was 6 of them and 3 of us. I had 3 of their items on my bill when it came. Not a huge deal. $10. The gal I spoke with about the steak came by and I heard her tell the other server that I had the steak. On the bill it was charged as if nothing was wrong. I thought maybe it was overlooked. When I asked her she went and got a man. (I am guessing the owner.) I told him again the steak was extremely chewy and his reply was, it's fresh. Not the response I expected I guess. I definitely DO NOT recommend anything here with steak. Also after that we were ignored for at least 15 min until my father asked if someone could come take our money. I was really excited for Mexican food! The restaurant had a very authentic vibe with custom tables and chairs/booths. We went to Emporia to run another errand yesterday and decided to check YELP for a good Mexican Restaurant. The ratings were very high so we decided on Casa Ramos. Let me start by saying that the Staff was very attentive and there were people washing the windows and sweeping. The Decor was nice and everything was very clean. We were seated and handed Menus. In the booth that we were seated at -- the lighting was a little challenging for reading the menu. Shortly afterwards our Server cam and took our drink order -- we both ordered Margaritas on the Rocks. A different person brought us each a water, then yet another person brought Chips and Salsa. Our Server came back with the Margaritas and he took our order. I ordered Tacos Al Pastor and my Husband ordered Tacos Al Carbon. We figured we could try each others since the plate came with 3 Tacos along with Rice and Beans. With that first sip of the Margarita -- I guess I gave my Husband a strange look. He took a drink and said that it reminded him of cough syrup. He tried stirring it and tried it again. Margaritas are my Husband's absolute favorite beverage to order out and he just wasn't digging it. In fact, he didn't finish it. I finished mine mainly because it was $8.00. When our Entrees arrived, I immediately noticed how oily the Taco Shells were. In fact, I decided to just eat the Al Pastor meat out of one Taco and my Husband did the same. We tried the Rice and Beans and they were very bland. Even with the addition of Salt and Pepper. My Husband asked for the Check and some boxes. One person brought us the boxes and a take home bag and another brought the Check. I will say that the Staff worked as a Team and it was very impressive. I would give the Staff a 4 (and not a 5 because of how our Entrees were prepared) but the food I would give a low 2. We are in town for DDO and needed some dinner so we chose Mexican. We were greeted upon entering and informed about the specials including a special one for disc golfers which is an appetizer of cheese sticks, jalapeño poppers and fried pickles served in a mini disc golf basket. We were seated and brought warm chips and drinks right away. Their queso dip was not on the menu but was really yummy. The dinner portions were really large and we had leftovers to take with us. Service was fine, but while waiting for food I saw an employee grab some tiny plastic to go sauce cups and lids and accidentally dropped a couple onto the ground and then picked them back up to use them without throwing away the ones that fell on the ground. I love this restaurant so much! It's been a staple since I was a kid and the food has honestly just gotten better. They have the best queso in town! While their salsa is not my favorite, their chips and queso definitely make up for it. I love their beef quesadillas but my favorite entree is their chicken enchiladas covered in queso. Delicious! They have the best margaritas in town as well--mine are always perfectly blended and taste delicious. My only problem when eating here is how full I am when I leave! Their sopapillas are amazing and everything I've ordered has been great quality. Their service is amazing and the servers are so nice and welcoming.
