Dia de Los Muertos Beatles art

I used to live in Houston and would visit this shop regularly. Now I live in Colorado, still follow this shop, and recently saw a post of an item on Instagram of a wonderful Día de los Muertos piece that I HAD to have! I contacted the shop via messenger in a Saturday, they messaged back the next day, and I had the piece in my hands by the following Saturday (7 days from the first time I saw the item on Instagram). THAT IS GREAT SERVICE. Casa Ramírez is family owned and a wonderful local business that will ship to you and work with you to help you find unique and quality folk art. Please make this store part of your life.

I really love supporting Casa Ramirez. We try to visit as often as we can because they always have new books and sculptures out. You get a very home like feeling when you walk in. They have some great Mexican dresses and shirts and even some ponchos up front. It's where I come to pick up my Loteria papers. They sell it by the roll so you can make your own cards, this comes in handy when you're like my family and your tia and mom want to play with 5 cards each. I also really love all the different Amor Eterno items they have. From paintings to ceramics they have it here. There is also a a great dia de los muertos figures. I got a small groom and bride set that I just love. It's also a great place to pick up any Milagros you may need, they have a very big selection of them. My kids love the books they've gotten from Casa Ramirez. They've gotten the Loteria book and a big one that teaches them how to say everyday words in Spanish. Theres a large section of sugar skulls as well, not just ceramics but they also sell fabric, aprons, shirts, table clothes, and even baby burp cloths with sugar skulls. I picked one up this last time I was there. They frequently have classes for you to take as well. There is a sugar skull one coming up this weekend!

We landed upon this shop by accident after checking out the next door vinyl shop. I'm glad we went in to check it out. Lots of authentic art and a great book selection. We had a conversation with the owner as we checked out and apparently her and her late husband had the shop since the 80s. Very nice shop with great ambiance.

I was only in here briefly but it seemed like a really neat place. Lots of gift type items and I agree with David N., it is more of a "store with art" than an art gallery. If you are in the market for Mexicana, this is your place.

"Casa Ramírez is located in Houston's Historic Heights section. With its warm atmosphere and special color, Casa Ramirez attracts all visitors. The gallery exhibits and sells all kinds of Mexican craftwork, from portraits, antiques and ceramic, clay, metal and wood artifacts and figures, to the most varied artistic elements. You can admire the creation of artists and artisans. An example of this is the traditional exposition of Mexican altars, which the gallery holds commemorating November 1st and 2nd, Day of the Dead. For El Dia de los Muertos (the Catholic holiday All Souls Day) November 2, the store is adorned with 14 altars honoring the deceased, complete with calaveras de azucar, votive candles (to light the way for the souls), incense, yellow flowers called Xempoaltxochitl (similar to the African marigold) pan de muerto, the deceased's favorite food and or favorite drink, their photo and favorite toys or items. It is an educational experience and cultural enrichment to learn from his exhibits how death is realistically accepted without fear." The above is from their website. If you've never been--It's a great place to go. Mr. Ramirez is a city gem. I had the pleasure of spending time watching him teach his altar classes, and it's quite something to see the passion he puts into sharing this beautiful tradition.

Beautiful tin mirror I couldn't pass up!

One of my favorite shops in Houston! This shop is ran by the nicest couple, Marcario will chat with you and is extremely knowledgeable about the products in his shop. He also does great workshops during Dia de los Muertos that are great for anyone wanting to learn more about the culture. The altars they feature during this time also are a wonderful feature of the shop. It feels special to take place in the community altar they set up for everyone to remember their lost loved ones. The parade they do every year is also a must see if you've never participated in one before. I have also bought so many items from this shop. From clothing & jewelry to wall mirrors, art and books, to little mini papel picado & miniatures for my home altar. They also usually have Mexican sugar cookies out for customers to snack on while they shop and Marcario is generous enough to offer a complimentary drink from the beverage cooler after you purchase something. They are also always participating in the annual festivals on 19th street, often with live music out front to dance to! I can't say enough good things about Casa Ramirez. I am proud to have such an amazing resource in the community for Mexican folkart and culture!

Oh, The Galleria! My ex-husband is from Houston and I've…read morebeen to The Galleria many, many times. In fact, I started going long before I knew my husband. My dad also lived in Houston and we'd often do shopping or eating at the mall. My daughter (who is now 30) loved (& still does) skating at the ice rink during the holidays. It's a magically fun experience. The Galleria is always incredibly decorated for the holidays. I still get to Houston 1-2 times a year and always enjoy visiting The Galleria. The Galleria itself has not only the ice rink but office space, two hotels, lots of places to eat, and shopping. The retail offerings range from shops like H&M, Macy's, and Nordstrom to high-end luxury shops like Gucci & Chanel. We were there just a few months ago and it was just as fun and exciting as my first visit! Gang, there are so many stores here. Like crazy amounts (a few hundred). It's very large and easy to navigate and of course gets extremely busy during peak times. A must-visit for locals and tourists alike.

Shopping can be hit or miss, and on this particular day, it was definitely a miss. My friends and I…read moreare dedicated bargain shoppers, and despite our best efforts, the Houston Galleria wasn't giving up any deals. With only about an hour before leaving Houston, our shopping mission was more of a speed run than a leisurely browse. Even without scoring any purchases, the Houston Galleria remains an impressive destination. The moment you step inside, you experience bright lights, multiple levels of stores, and a steady stream of shoppers that create an energetic, bustling atmosphere. Beyond shopping, the mall offers entertainment options such as its iconic indoor ice-skating rink, making it easy to spend an entire day there. One of the Galleria's biggest strengths is its variety. Luxury retailers like Chanel and Louis Vuitton share space with more accessible brands such as Banana Republic and American Eagle, offering something for nearly every budget and style. Whether you're on a focused shopping mission or simply window-shopping, there's plenty to explore...even if, in our case, we left empty-handed. The dining options are equally diverse, ranging from food-court favorites to sit-down restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory and Shake Shack to Chic-fil-a. While we didn't find the bargains we were hoping for, our fast-and-furious shopping adventure was filled with laughter and great conversation, and the kind of fun that comes from spending time with good friends. Sometimes spending quality time with friends is the best find of all.
