Michelin rated, and proved delicious! Booked a reservation long before leaving and had to leave a credit card number as collateral. When I arrived, I understood why. Hispania is located within a hotel and its dining space is pretty tiny. I think the dining room fits about 25-30 folks total (not including the bar). They also don't seem to seat more than 1 sitting per night, so if the table is booked for 8:30pm they won't seat folks at 6pm etc. Interior decor felt like a revved up Crate and Barrel! From the tables, chairs, to the cutlery and centerpieces, each quirky and super decorative but totally functional. (I loved it!) Staff was super kind and not pushy, we ordered food a la carte and be warned, dishes are a smidge small for the price. (but hey, this is Michelin rated tapas style so I can't exactly complain) Food was amazing! From the chef provided amuse bouche croquette, to scallops appetizer, through to entree... finger lickin' good! Drinks and desserts were equally great! I absolutely loved that their espresso martini was done exceptionally well and came paired with petit fours for dessert. Please note: this is not a 'Spanish' restaurant and they do not serve paella. It is one of the cheapest and easiest to make dishes of the Italian cusine: price at Palo Alto €17. But this is not the worst part (and indeed I knew it as the price was on the menu). What really felt like a fraud was the price of the wine. We took the Neleman "Just fucking good wine". Its market price is €6 so we expected to be charged something around €15-16 and went for 2 bottles. Turns out Palo Alto sells these cheap bottles at €36 each. The problem with that is that if you spend this amount for a wine, you expect, taking into account the profit a restaurant makes, at least a €20 worth bottle. But this really was not the case.

The bar/restaurant is deservedly very popular and on a recent visit on a Friday evening it was extremely busy, so waiting times can be a little long - but the food is worth the wait. The young Spanish and Belgian staff are friendly, very welcoming and extremely efficient. The proprietor is a wine connoisseur and keen to recommend his favourite vintages. Altogether a very rewarding experience.

The free bread offered is stale, cheap, flavorless white bread. Other downsides: this is not a clean place. There are splatters of food across the walls and menus. The menu is a laminated piece of paper, two actually. They can't be bothered to consolidate and reprint new menus. It is very dark and the night we visited, VERY loud. There is a three tapa minimum per person- yet another sign the of a cheap place.
