Tapas: tuna tartare, giant prawns, octopus, duck foie gras
Celine L.

This was the only belgian restaurant in the area (chateaulein) that we could find so we decided to try this place. The outside/ patio was packed so we had to sit inside by the window. We ordered tapas and a few glasses of wine. Tuna tartare- heavy on the arugula, but fresh and yummy. Giant prawns- it just tasted like giant shrimp, nothing special. Duck foie gras- it was slightly sweet, definitely never had it like this before. It was good, but we weren't used to it. Calamari- our favorite. The calamari was super tender and the light sauce and lemon really added to the calamari. Yum! Navarro red wine- fruity and heavy, but a good pairing with the meal. Overall the tapas were really good and different- great first meal in Belgium! Total was 38 euro. Service is a bit slower than the USA but I feel like people are here more to relax and chat anyways (but we were hungry as hell). Beware of the mini fruit flies that fly into your drink! Two fell into my wine so I could not drink it anymore :(

HAVE AGAIN: The squid appetizer was tender and delicious! The roasted chicken and potatoes was quite good, as well.

“Try the traditional basque aperitif before your meal (a kind of sparkling white wine, really light and refreshing).”

We've walked past El Vasco numerous times and everytime the wife and I have been trying to figure…read moreout just when we could go and feast on Basque food. Well, we also noticed they serve sandwichs. After the sandwich spot we were going to go to only accepted cash, and we didn't have any, we decided to walk a bit outta our way and finally try the sandwichs here. We were both excited to try the rillette de canard, and that's what we did. I got the rillette de canard with a black olive tapenade, and sundried tomatoes on olive bread. The wife got something very similar, without the tapenade and instead with olive oil and no sundried tomatoes. We went with the meal deal for 8.5€, which also got us the most amazing meat empanada I've ever tasted. We had lunch there pretty early, I think we were her first customers of the day and therefore the empanadas were still slightly warm. The meal deal also came with a soft or a water of your choice. The sandwiches were amazing and for the price with the internet and the meal deal it's really hard to beat for such a great sandwich. We will undoubtedly come back and try their wine and tapas. So all in all, if you're looking for a sandwich made with amazing ingredients come here...you won't regret it.

Absolutely outstanding. I admit that I've never been the world's biggest fan of Belgian food or of…read moremussels, so I was a little bit skeptical when my friend suggested we grab dinner at this place. But since we were in Brussels anyway, I figured we might as well try to get the full Belgian experience and try both mussels and beer. Le Chou de Bruxelles certainly did not disappoint -- the food was outstanding, the service impeccable, and the space delightful. The mussels were remarkably fresh and were a bit briny (as all mussels must be) but weren't overly fishy. Le Chou de Bruxelles offers a wide swath of sauces you can pair with your mussels, which is super fun; I ended up doing a more classic combo with white wine, garlic, and several herbs, but it was super tasty -- the herbs were super fresh and brightened up the overall dish, and the white wine was a lovely pairing with the shellfish. We also got their caprese salad, which was super tasty; the mozzarella was incredibly fresh and the tomato was perhaps the best tomato my friend had ever tried. It was presented in a rather entertaining way, with the tomato cut in half and hollowed out, then with the mozzarella packed inside the tomato. The service was also phenomenal and absolutely on-point. We were seated in the back of the restaurant right next to the patio door, so a few bees flew in and circled around our heads during our meal, but the staff was super friendly in helping us push the bees back outside. Vibes-wise, the restaurant is gorgeous and lively. It's a little bit out of the way from Central Brussels, so you end up with a good mix of locals and tourists. Absolutely love this spot and can't wait to come back in my next trip to Brussels!
