I came down to baja with a bacherelotte party and did a winery tour. We stop a 4 different winery's but this one really stood out since it was full of Frida art. It was GEORGOUS! We took lots of beautiful pictures. We had sangrias here and they happened to be my favorite ones out of all the winery's. We enjoyed a nice cheese platter and their black aguachile. Casa Frida was our third stop of the day and the one I was most excited about. We were lucky to find easy parking and were greeted warmly by an employee/host that told us about their outlets. The restaurant, rooftop and tasting room. He led us to the tasting room and opened this large sliding barn door and we were welcomed into the most plush space - velvet, flowers, chandeliers, art, colors, absolutely stunning space in contract to the arid surroundings of the Valle. Our group of 7, 5 of which were over 60, found comfortable and easy seating. 4 of us opted to taste so I asked for 4 tastings and a cheese and charcuterie platter & things got a little weird. Tastings here are $250 MXP about $14 USD (most expensive we paid) and a cheese plate was also $250 MXP, when we asked for a meat plate, I was told that I needed to pay that cash up front if I wanted to order it vs. paying at the end - I was confused and I swear it wasn't the wine, I was sober after a massive meal at Finca Altozano. The gentleman clearly stated that if you want meat added to your cheese plate it would be an additional 250 MXP that must be paid in cash up front...the weirdest rule ever, so we passed on the meat. We moved on to our tasting flights. One thing FOR SURE is that this winery takes itself very seriously. The others we visited had the casual and fun Mexican warmth that you come to expect. Casa Frida is more uppity. The young man that led our tasting was so disengaged and all of his lines seemed so rehearsed/memorized, we decided to take a seat or explore the tasting room instead because he was way too cool to talk to us. We found plenty to admire and explore, so we were fine. I found that I enjoyed their wine the most of all of the ones I sampled, especially their Diego bottle, but at $40 USD a bottle, I passed on the purchase as well. Bottom line, come here, you know you want to. Its beautiful and the space is very Instagram worthy (which seems to be their draw), but don't expect to be blown away by their knowledge of wine or charmed by the warmth of some of the staff. Note to management: I get that this place is trendy, but if you want to have success and longevity, you have to train your young staff to treat people well. Trust me, its possible....everyone else in El Valle has figured this out, you can do it too! read more

Very disappointed. I was looking forward to visiting Casa Frida, I did my reservations with time. The day of arrival they called me to tell me my reservations were canceled. That they were going to be close due to government restrictions. Which I honestly think it was a lie and they closed due to rain. I went to other wineries and they were open. Even they said that if that was the case, they would of closed them all. Very unprofessional on their part they could of called me at least the day before my reservations. Our group arrived 8th of May 2022 Mother's Day USA, about 3:30pm and soon as we walked up, they asked us if we had reservation's. Note, this place was not crowed at all. The patio had lots of seats/tables open, we could see straight ahead. Then as I looked around the restaurants below were mostly empty except these for two ladies who were sipping wine down below on the tables outside of the lower second restaurant. Then she asked if my friends 18 year old daughter had her ID. She did not, so the young receptionist said she can't sit on the patio. That's for adults only. The the police moonlighting officer started to search me and pat me down for a gun or something, then the ladies. The receptionists stated we could only sit at the low section past the restaurants and that's for drinks. She send us on our way. So we walked to the lower section, there were two couple sitting in the back and that was it. The DJ music was across this bridge and blasting loud. So as we hit a dead-end wall in the back we returned back to the front entrance and ask a waiter if it was OK to sit at the first table on the left of this lower entrance. The man said yes and walked away. After 10 minutes another waiter came by and took our drink order. Then after a short while he returned and we toasted. We came, we conquered and we did not like the bad vibes here caused by the employees, they were not genuinely happy to see us or to serve us. Then we started noticing other things. First, they escorted people to tables down were we were sitting, but not us; and many of us were annoyed at how loud the DJ music was where we were sitting. So we asked the waiter if we could move toward the tables at the entrance of the shady tequila and gift shop over-yonder. So we did, then another 2 couples did the same thing. It was more enjoyable here. So we finished our drinks and we paid our bill and left a nice 20% tip and left...as we exited this area we noticed the two ladies were still drinking their wines where we wanted to sit. Then another couple was sitting behind them on another table sipping wine as well. No one was eating there and the restaurant was empty. The other restaurant next door had two couples sitting together inside eating as we walked to the bathrooms. WHY WERE WE PREVENTED FROM SITTING IN THESE TWO EMPTY RESTURANTS IS BEYOND US, go figure...it was bad customer services; they are acting like this place is high-end exclusive restaurants. It's not! Maybe they make enough cash to not worry about customers like us. It's a place where people want to show off and that about it. Young people come here to check each other out, take a photo of a cheap sign with a heart saying Frida's, and checking out what they are wearing. Oooo-Weeeee. Look at me. The restaurant in Glendale California is a much better food and customer service experience. This Frida's is overly rated. King & Queen way better plus their scenery is calming. The wines next door are very good. Go get drunk at Frida's to enjoy being hustled for tips. And you better have reservations to sit anywhere or just don't go at all. Was looking forward to visiting Casa Frida for some time but ended up being extremely dissapointed with the experience. There was loud construction on the property, which ruined the ambiance completely. We couldn't eat on the rooftop terrace, as originally reserved due to having one person under age 18 (out of a party of 12). The reservation was pre-paid and if you don't consume up to that amount, there are no refunds. The seafood was the only positive note out of this visit. I will not be returning. read more

My husband, family and I visited the Guadalupe Valley this weekend and had a blast at Casa Frida. We got there about 15 minutes after it had opened and it was already filled with wine fanatics! Good service and $20 to sample their four house wines. Unfortunately we didn't get to taste one since they had sold out but we got to choose our favorite. Definitely a friendly picturesque spot. Don't bother coming here. Some sort of elitist vibe here: Stopped by to do some wine tasting and scope out the view. The place is not so much an actual winery but more of a hipster bar with decorations of Frida Kahlo. The bar area was stuffy and hot, so we got some drinks and stepped out back to the outside lounge area. We wanted to get some food later so we went to make a reservation in the backyard restaurant. We were a group of 12 and even though there was plenty of free long tables already available the "hostess" who looked like a ghetto Amber Rose wannabe, told us the wait was 20 minutes, (which was expected). Then she asked if we were going to drink or eat at the lounge and when we said "eat" the wait then rose to 40-50mins. We gave our party name and when she asked where the rest of the group was, we said, they're in the bar. She asked if they were on the first floor or second. When we said the the 1st floor she incinuated that if we were from the 2nd floor we could sit immediately, but we weren't. Apparently there's some sort of "status" that only people on the top floor of the bar somehow achieve... We went back to the outside bar area and while we were waiting to be called, we sat down on these makeshift park benches made of hay stacks wrapped in cloth covers. After a few mins we were approached by a waiter telling us that the "table" was reserved. They were asking us to move while there was no sign stating it was reserved. Then they said that we couldn't sit there while not consuming their product. This while we ALL had drinks in hand that we had just gotten there. We told her the drinks were from their own bar but she didn't believe us and went to ask another waiter if this was true. We had IPA bottles from THEIR bar on the bottle label and drinks from the bar with ice! How could we possibly fake this?? Then the actual Supervisor came over to tell us to leave the table as well. Long story short, we don't know what stick was up these people's butt. So we all left since they clearly didn't want our business. Don't come here unless you absolutely value a simple Instagram selfie over an actual wine tasting experience. Go to any other neighboring winery instead! It took about 45 mins to get our food and when we asked about the status of our food, the server turned around and started complaining to the manager about us being difficult. This was very upsetting because on a weekend trip last weekend we really wanted our friends to enjoy the roof top bar and i wanted a el carijillo cocktail which despite the fact that there are at least 4 bars on the premises you can only get that drink from the rooftop bar! The line to get to rooftop bar is insane on a Saturday night and it's really not that serious i don't know if the owners think Casa frida is in Hollywood or what but the elitist vibe is a major turn off. When we returned on a Sunday around 4p to sit outside at bar they asked us to commit to purchase as if we were planning to sit there and not drink. Went in a party of 20 ... Got put on the Corazon dinning area . The server told us it would be cheaper if we got trays and recommended we get (4)... cool so we did . When the trays came to the table it ended up being (7) before we touched them we asked him again... why is there so many we told you (4) he said yeah 1,2,3,4 and suggested they were split to accommodate the long table better .. I estimated around $700 for the 4 by looking at the price on the menu... My bill came to $1300 and the server later came and said we agreed to 4 OF EACH OF THE 3 different trays AKA 7 different trays .... When we double checked and asked him twice ... then he demands a 20% tip .. got upset and started arguing that he needed more money .. we gave him $70 tip ... and he came up to me and said in Spanish that it was bs he only got that amount.. Super disappointed by the service and discrimination. Our group had a couple kids (toddler and baby) and noticed we weren't the only group with kids. We waited in line like everyone else to enter, but the woman seating people was super rude. We were asked if we had a reservation, and then said we were only allowed in the restaurant but we weren't allowed to view the rest of the winery nor do tastings. She then moved on to the next group who also didn't have reservations and offered them every single service available. I asked her another attendant why we weren't allowed and they were, and she said they probably had a reservation. Once I told her they didn't either, she was forced to allow us in but we were left to our own and didn't bother guiding us to a section like every other single client. I absolutely love this bar/winery/restaurant! The ambiance is lounge meets winery. Instaworthy decor all over. Great cocktails, wine selection and bites. We didnt get to eat at the restaurant but the small bites in the lounge were great and the service was prompt and friendly. A great place to spend a few hours or all night! Nice location and scenery, except very bad customer service. It seems like the staff seems to choose who they will serve. I did not care for that. We went to the section where they had food service and were informed to wait for 10 minutes. Funny thing, there was no one else waiting for a table and there were three tables available. We went and sat in one of the tables without permission and ended up ordering a soft drink and a beer. Slightly over priced grilled corn appetizer- especially since the corn was over grilled- nearly burnt. The other appetizers were good. The wines are good- I recommend just buying the bottle (but I recommend that anywhere). The waiter recommended a wine which we thought he said was the house wine. When the bill came, we were charged the most expensive bottle on the menu. When we confronted him about that, he said the first wine he served was the house wine but ran out and then brought us a similar bottle. I thought I had asked for a whole bottle (which I normally do- and presumed he was keeping it cool for us) and he said no, that he was bringing it by the glass. On the next occasion we went back and asked for a bottle of the house wine and were told they didn't have a house wine. We didn't want to make a scene or become confrontational because the initial waiter was not there- but that whole situation seems odd. Aside from that the overall staff is friendly and the place is beautiful. It has different buildings and large spaces so that you don't feel overcrowded. The outdoor restaurant staff is friendly yet if you arrive within the last 2 hours, they've run out of almost everything on their menu. They have a night life club scene with 90s popular dance music. I've come back several times and just really make a point to be clear on which wine bottle I'm getting and how much it is. I feel bad acting like that with waiters, but I don't want to get jiffed.
