A waiter took our drink order and let us know that the kitchen boss would be out soon to take our order. We ordered a salad and a rice dish for two - arroz a banda (seafood dish). It's a nice touch for the owner to take your order personally! Soon after, the waiter delivered two homemade croquetas and 2 generous slices of toast bathed in sweet local tomatoes - compliments of the house. Our mediterranean salad arrived shortly thereafter and was delicious - fresh everything, and huge chunks of tuna. The rice came soon after, delivered in a traditional paella pan, and was perfect. Not too fishy and just the right amount of flavor. There was one last surprise when the check arrived - an offer for an after-lunch liquor chupito (we chose limoncello) and two homemade little chocolate cookies - the perfect was to end a wonderful meal. I look forward to going back on my next visit to Altea! Note: if you want paella it has to be pre-ordered. All the food on the other tables looked amazing as well - a fine example of Mediterranean cooking at its finest.

Space 2. Service 3. Food 4. City 1. SPACE. 5 stars Nou Manolin is located in a beautiful and lively part of Alicante's historical center. On the ground floor, a large (and yet intimate) square bar occupies the entire floor. This is a bar where customers sit on a first come first served dynamic. Here you can informally eat out of tapas, that are served in a gracious and fun way. It is totally unpretentious, and totally sophisticated. This hall could not be more beautiful. No one single testaurant-Indra cliche to be found here. All pure eclecticism that reveals the long term existence of the establishment. So beautiful! The upper floor is more of a table serviced restaurant, beautifully decorated in a Mediterranean-design style, and with great care for impecable acoustics. The ceiling is made of a series of John Soane-like wooden domes, made to reduce sound reflection. Such a nice way to focus on the invisible part of design, so important to make a place the right place for a memorable dinner or lunch. 2. SERVICE. 5 stars This place másters a unique combination of professionalism and know-how with warmness and lack of pompousness. The result is truly nice. You truly feel welcomed here. And feels like being in the center of the world. . At the same time you feel the enthusiasm for food and wine. No way to resist. With this service: You will automatically become a believer in the power of Alicante's gastronomy . 3. FOOD. 5 stars. Now we get serious. The best tapas!!! The marinera is the best. Amazing fresh seafood. The bacalao buñuelos are a gastronomic chapter on its own. But above all that: do not miss the fideuá. This is the best fideuás I ever had. The fideo is soft and crispy. The flavors are intense and with a bit of a good-olive-oil- bitterness. The food here is indescribable. Just come to taste it. 4. CITY. 5 stars. Something needs to be said about this city Alicante that has beautifully managed to show how to be coastal and urban in a beautiful and meaningful way. But please, keep it secret; we don't want this to become a tourist mess like Barcelona. Ultimately, just come here.

I liked that this cute restaurant was unpretentious and had a nice "menu del dia" lunch offer which was displayed on a chalk board outside. We were greeted warmly by the staff and chef whose creations were displayed in a case and within view. I liked that I could see what was offered/I was ordering. We learned that Kucuruchos was only open about two months at the time we dined there. Everything was clean and nice. My hubby enjoyed that there were hightop tables to sit at. There were a variety of options for the meat and non-meat eater. I settled upon a fish stuffed pepper item for my main course and some medley of beans for my first course. Bread accompanies the meal and it was enjoyable. The owner thoughtfully brought us an amuse bouche of sorts, a typical seafood of the area which was quite interesting (Nick had inquired about it prior). I liked the flavors of the dishes I tried and the portion size was hearty. There are bottled drinks and beer and wine available which are not included in the "menu del dia" which is fine but just varies from the norm we found with "menu del dia" offers elsewhere in Spain. If I could change one thing I would say that the dishes I sampled were a tad salty, but that is coming from me, someone who doesn't use or prefer a lot of salt. We were offered dessert and we were so full we took it to go. The desserts were a nice treat during our time at the beach. I really enjoyed my experience at Kucuruchos and hope that you will too!

I started with a rice cake they call a soccorat (like the paella crust) topped with a tartare of the sweetest and freshest prawn. Superb! Next was a peeled whole tomato stuffed with a mousse of cured ventresca (tuna belly) and served atop a tomato soup like a creamy gazpacho. Another winning dish that takes familiar ingredients and through technique makes them special and elevated. The next tapa was a skewer with a single langoustine tail crusted with the Turkish strands you often find in middle eastern desserts. The langoustine tail was stuffed with a little portion of melted Brie cheese. So good. The last tapa was octopus pieces atop wonderfully browned potatoes that managed to be both crisp on the outside and meltingly tender inside. Superb. For dessert I took the server's recommendation and had the apple dessert, which was a sort of deconstructed apple tart that was the essence of apple. They comped me a generous shot or two of a beautiful local dessert wine. Service was gracious and helpful. The prices are treasonable for food of this quality. I really enjoyed my meal here!
