Soares has so many port wines (Taylor's, Barros, Graham's, Dow's, etc.) and many others to select from. I was able to score a Barros Colheita 2010 at a very reasonable price. The staff were so nice and friendly. They explained how port wines are made and the differences in the harvest, colors and processes. For example, Colheita is the specific harvest of that year. No mixing of grapes. Tawny Port is aged for much longer than its Ruby counterpart. It's also aged using oak barrels, which gives it a very different flavor profile (smooth and refined) and is brown in color. Ruby port is fuller and more fruity. I just love port wines especially if they're made in Portugal.

I nearly cried because I love this wine so much. They don't ship to the states, unfortunately, so I bought as much as I could carry. Sr. Jose is very knowledgeable and friendly. He has an immense selection of low cost right up to out of this world bottles including rare vintages. The sample tastings which he supplied us with were very much appreciated. If he doesn't have it, he can get it pretty much the same or next day. I was impressed with the price and speed in filling my order for a bottle of French Cognac. His shop is on a small street behind the Clérigos Tower in Porto. Found it by accident as we finished our tour of the tower and church. Will definitely visit him again on my next trip to Porto.

First off, Graham is arguably one of the top/best Port producers which is a prime consideration to going on this tour. Although not the oldest Port wine producer it still has a long and illustrious history with a very interesting Family storyline to tell which this winery does a very good job of doing and adds a nice element to the tour experience. Relative to the tour itself, it starts in a large waiting area that has pictures and placards that give you a nice overview of their history which I found very interesting. From there you move into a small theater to watch a 10. minute film that is focused on the modern operation where the focus is vineyard, land and people related that gives you an appreciation of the Graham operation and how the workers who have long relationship with the company and are viewed as part of Grahams extended family. Once the film ends the tour moves into the barrel room which is flat out amazing. It is very large and impressive where I have not seen another Barrel room that really compares to this and was the highlight of this tour and to be honest with you the highlight of my vacation in Porto. While in the barrel room the tour goes over the types of Ports Grahams make, unique things they do in making their wines and more in depth discussion surrounding the land, grapes they use, the harvest and eventual bottling. fairly thorough and definitely informative and entertaining if you are into wine as I am and have a desire to learn about wine in general. lastly you end up in the tasting room sampling some of their wines where the selection we had in our flight did not disappoint Overall a very very good experience and one that should be at the very top of your list of things to see and do while in Porto. My favourite was the Valriz reserva Ruby (young aged) and Casa Santa Eufémia Tawny 10 year old (middle aged). Three tables in the back to sit and do the tasting. The worker walked us through each one and described the different characteristics, possible pairings with food, etc. Good selection of wines (including a small selection of natural wines) and ports. The worker was very helpful with recommendations. A family that was shopping bought 10 bottles.

Though given they've apparently been making port since 1715, they *probably* didn't go totally downhill in the past 6 months... anyway, I gave myself a bunch of work writing reviews that trip, given among other things, I intentionally found an airbnb right where all the tasting rooms were, and tried to visit as many of them as I could (I did get to most of them!) This was certainly only one of many wonderful Port wineries I went to, in terms of their Port being very good, which it was - perhaps not the *best* I'd had that trip (I had a lot of very good port), but quite good, and at least at the time, quite *affordable* by the glass compared to some (but not all) of the other tasting rooms I went to, on both the very cheap and the relatively more expensive ends (funny enough, I thought the tastiest one of the several I tried was their cheapest tawny). I did like that they let you pick which bottles you wanted to try, instead of being locked into a flight. And I especially liked that they provided small pairings, which for the port, was chocolate, obviously. Truly wonderful chocolates, wonderful pairing. I was just sad, when I decided I had to try at least *one* of their table wines (their very affordable, *very* good, Maria Mansa white blend), that it didn't come with any more chocolates (it came with crackers, instead, lol. Those chocolates would've gone great with *everything*.) In addition to the great wine and great service, I also learned when I got there, accidentally at the absolutely perfect time, if you get a seat by the window, they also have an entirely non-pretentious, but *gorgeous* second-floor view of the river, especially right as the sun is going down. I was just there because, *also* notably, they closed an hour after all their competitors, so I went wine tasting all the places that closed at 5, then came here, so that was quite smart of them. But it also meant I got to be there at the absolute *perfect* time to pair the wines with not only great chocolates, but also a wonderful view. I miss Porto so much...
