So much for all the negatives! The owner proved himself the perfect host: he drove us to Paredes de Coura, pointed out possible places to eat, came to fetch us, invited us for a drink in the re-furbished stables (he could open a small museum with all the old things he has all over the place), and brought us after breakfast to the place where we could continue to Santiago. You can catch some spectacular views of the Douro River. Basically, the view alone is worth it. The gardens are spectacular and well-manicured. The staff was warm and welcoming. They stayed opened until I arrived, which was very late. They even made dinner for me at that hour. The rooms were big and comfortable. And it included many amenities. I wouldn't recommend this type of hotel if you're traveling with young children. I think it's great for solo travelers or couples. Resende is a small town and it's quite remote. So this B&B is a great place to just have a relaxing stay.

Cambados is a great place to start exploring Galicia and all its beautiful things to see. Hotel O…read moreLagar is good 2 star hotel and place to stay. Why? It's location is central, but quiet. It's just a few minutes walk from the seafront, the boulevard, Plaza Fefiñanes and other squares. The owners are really kind, making it feel more like a bed and breakfast and honoring the description "hotel familiar". The rooms have a good standard and the prices are really good (€45-60, depending the season). A few years ago when we stayed her, we got very ill from eating a lot of different seafood mixed with a lot of different alcoholic drinks (... oops, our own fault) and when we got home to the hotel the owner immediately noticed this. She made us rice water (the water in which the rice is boiled), supposedly a secret Galician miracle drink for stomach illness. It seemed to help. The day before the cleaner had put our wet shoes in the sun on the French balcony. What a service! It has a small cafe on the ground floor: cafeteria Bodegón with a nice view on the church. When wanting a cheaper and less touristy hotel (like the Parador) as a fallout base for exploring the country during the day, this hotel serves the purpose.
