This is not the 1st Albergue you find in Barcelos, it's on the other side of the shopping area. It was clean enough and hospitable. You sign yourself in and leave a donation. The key is at the restaurant next door. They also serve pilgrim dinner and breakfast. Showers are communal with a push button for water. The bathroom lights are motion sensor and don't come back on unless you awkwardly step out of the shower or toilet area. Between pushing buttons and stepping in and out of the dark shower with soap in my eyes swinging my arms around, my shower experience was comedically annoying hmmmm..... was this a joke??There are shelves for stuff. Wear shower shoes. Bathrooms are downstairs.

It's two star hotel and we didn't expect much about it but a room and a bathroom were clean, with a nice size balcony. Bonus was a nice swimming pool after a long day walk. It was a treat for sure. There was not much around the area so we ate at the restaurant attached to the hotel. Food was exceptionally good with local cuisine. One of the food to try in Portugal was Seafood Rice and we had that one and a skewer of squid which came with other seafood on it. The total cost with 1 and half bottle wine and bread, olives, and pate with the food was 40 Eruo. What a gem in this little town!

They could not be more helpful, from recommending things to do, places to eat or providing a running commentary on matters Portuguese. It is a guesthouse and not a hotel. Some criticisms on other websites have noted there are rules (such as guests must be in by 1am or risk being out all night) but we found them perfectly reasonable and acceptable. We have travelled all over the world and have rarely had a better lodging experience.
