This review is for Samantha scooping ice cream. There were 3 of us, myself, my friend, and my daughter. My friend ordered, I ordered for my daughter, and then I was deciding on what I would get for myself. Samantha left without coming back and rang up the people before us. When we got to the register, I told her I was still wanting to order one more item previously and she had walked away. She said - she couldn't just go and scoop another ice cream, that we had to pay for the two we got and then get back in line and order again. What???? How does this make any sense and what kind of customer service is this? My daughter is 2.5 and it was already a little hectic trying to get her to stay with us and order. I ended up not getting anything and we went outside. She was totally inept and lacking in customer service skills and critical thinking. There was a gentleman that worked here that gave me a random bag because he saw me carrying 10things in my hands. I appreciate the kind gesture and had to come on yelp to give my appreciation. We live in a world where i panic about not having a bag with me bc i refuse to pay 10cents.. and i always figure every store whether they like it not, will never give free bags to customers let alone a struggling stranger. So thanks. We also really loved the ice creams here. I regret not getting the eggnog flavor! Casa de Sweets is located next to Casa de Fruta and I usually stop here if I'm in the area. I usually come for the candy, pastries and ice cream. On this trip, I opted not to get any ice cream, but did decide to get some candy and pastries. My wife enjoys their muffins, so she picked-up a cranberry lemon muffin. I picked-up a couple of their apple turnovers, but they were out of their mini apple pies this time. I also bought milk chocolate raisins, double dipped chocolate peanuts and chocolate gummi bears. Cool little dessert shop to stop in! Ice cream was I think $4.50 for 1 scoop! And $2 and additional. I must be old cause that seems pricey! And they didn't even have every flavor stocked! Coffee was just basic. Not really high quality. The staff were all polite and very helpful! The pre packaged sweets were delicious! But again a lil pricey. All the novelty stuff inside was actually cool! Big variety of cool things, nothing generic! We got on the train ride and my little kids liked it. They also got the lil mining package which they liked doing all on there own. Overall I think we'd come back to spend a few hours here and now knowing what's what. read more

Recently visited this place again and I saw actual RATS running through the store! The older lady in white who I'm guessing was the manager came up to my family and I and she smelled horrible!! She also also followed us around the store like if we were stealing which made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Came here to grab a coffee. I got a small soy latte. It was horrible - too milky with no taste of coffee whatsoever. Not sure if it was the brand of soy but there was an odd taste. I purchased a Santa fe latte? Or something like that there.. Prices are beyond reasonable when it came to the coffee... $3 for their small size. Which was really a medium if anything. However, the coffee beans they used for the lattes were very burnt tasting and dark.. I would have expected way better beans from a boutique style store. Also... It would have been nice to know there were no bugs inside their glass storages... And also nice to maybe get rid of some, if not all of your flies? There were many flies everywhere... That's pretty gross considering all the candy were exposed to the air, which allowed the flies to land on them. CdS focuses primarily on getting people their sugar fix as they primarily sell bulk candies, chocolate covered nuts/fruits, sweets, pastries, homemade fudge and they even have a café inside. We swung-by the other day after many, many years to see what we've been missing. Candy- Grabbed a small sampling of about six different kinds of chocolate covered nuts, fruit and other confections, and honestly none of them really blew me away. If I had to pick one winner I'd go with the Cashew Caramel Turtles, but it's pretty hard to screw those up. The chocolate on most of the products tasted cheap and waxy, definitely not on the level of See's or Ghirardelli. 2.5* Service- The folks working inside were all really friendly and helpful, but my interaction was very minimal. 4* Ambiance- I love the nostalgic look and feel of this place. The wood interior and carousel horse in the middle of the store really provide a welcoming atmosphere. Everything about this place screams "fun." 5* Value- The candies range from $13-19/lb which means the total cost can rise faster than you think. I estimated about $30 with all my stuff―but it was actually closer to $50! They don't provide any scales for you to check yourself, so be aware that some of these candies are heavier than they look. For example the Coconut Haystacks were a whopping 4oz/ea and just two of them cost me almost $9! Considering everything tasted "cheap," this wasn't their strongest feature. 1* Honestly if it wasn't for the nostalgia factor I would say to skip CdS, but if you're here with the kids and visiting CdF it would be hard to not bring them here for some treats. If you're looking for sweets don't expect too much here just your average variety Target type Suites. They have your standard chocolates most of which is packaged a gelato and ice cream stand inside and super slow service. They have a small coffee shop as well where they brew specialty coffee drinks, or there's coffee on the top that's been sitting there for god-knows-how-long. I bought a couple of chocolates but they tasted rather stale, also I don't know how long they been sitting in the case. My friend had the gelato and it was quite icy, and my horchata ice cream was super sweet and not worth the price. read more

Casa De Sweets! What a terrific name for a business! It is actually part of the giant conglomerate called Casa De Fruta in Hollister, CA. It has its own separate structure a bit towards the back of the main property. I went inside hoping they would have baked goods and ice cream. I was not dissapointed! They had all that plus much more! They serve Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz! One of my favorite brands! Got me a scoop on Pumpkin Pie ice cream. Absolutely enjoyed every spoonful of this seasonal flavor! From their bakery case, I tried a Pumpkin tart (forgot the exact name). It was decent, but I would pass on this one next time. The Mini Apple Pie was a better choice. It was delish! Surprisingly, the prices were not steep for most of the stuff I saw. Service was polite. There were tons of other choices for sweet tooths to purchase. Yeah, I would stop in again. I recommend that you do the same, if you need to satisfy your sweet tooth! read more

They have peerless coffee from the bay which is a plus! Although pricey- you can get your fix of all sugary confections, ice cream, popcorn and lots of odds and ends. They have the cute stuff like marvel/ dc comic mugs and other things if you are looking for a small gift from your travel ventures. I picked up some salt water taffy and cranberry almond toffee caramel corn. All of this is now gone thanks to coworkers. It is a good pit stop if you need to stretch your legs. read more

My hubby and I had a relaxing day here and we enjoyed tasting their wines as well as their delicious deli sandwiches, we bought a fresh apple pie and took it home for the kids and we ended up buying a bottle of their plum and pomegranate sparkling wine! I purchased a struddle and one of their half pies just to compare the two, both in the blueberry flavor. I absolutely love their half pies the fruit to crust ratio is perfect and very delicious!! The struddle on the other hand could have definitely uaed a bit more fruit in it, but the flakeyness of the dough was perfect.
