This place is so cool it's ridiculous. I'm never sure why there aren't more guests but having the…read morestaff working almost for yourself alone is part of the charm. The crazy thing about this particular one of the haciendas is that the food is also world class. Pro tip: don't miss the steam engine and note that the boiler is being lifted out of the old boiler room by the tree that grew under it. The boiler is so big that your mind might miss what it's really going on with it.

Calling itself "luxury" is a stretch. If you want the vibe go for a meal and view of the pool... tho it's not exactly the easiest place to get to. The road off the highway is rough and full of potholes. The restaurant is good however and the staff is friendly. The pork tacos are delicious. The place tho is odd. I'm not sure about the other Haciendas but this one could use a LOT of TLC. There are so many open spaces they could make way more interesting with landscaping, seating areas, and at minimum some lightening. There are a ton of very old areas... unused, and that's really the only thing to do to walk around and wonder what is all this old stuff for? But no context is offered, no history, unless you do the tour. It's frankly quite bizarre. If you want to completely disappear and feel a little rustic, and know you basically have your room, the restaurant facing the pool, and seating area facing big empty entrance to hang at - than ok, but I wouldn't necessarily call it tranquil and definitely not luxurious. The pool was dirty on one side, I never Saw one person in it, the hot tub was not hot, and we tried to walk to the secret cenote but there wasn't signage and ended up in a loop back to hotel. The spa service was top notch, absolutely 5*, thank you Fatima! It was in a room not in the cenote that gets advertised, as we were told right now there can be lots of bugs and even rats! The bedroom suite was huge with a hammock and an outside bath they filled for us that was lovely, the living room was pretty barren, they can use some art. The bed is comfortable I slept great. If you have kids please for the love of God don't come here. I cannot imagine how you would survive. We saw so many kids and cannot imagine what they possibly do with them at this property. If you are a writer and just need to go hide and write for a few days in the jungle then this could work. Otherwise I would not recommend. I'm Pretty open and flexible and have stayed many places... I just can't in good conscience tell people to go to this particular Hacienda unless it's for a specific reason.

Lots of points hanging around since I haven't got on a plane for work in 10 months. We were are staying in Merida for 5+ weeks since we can work remote and Merida/Yucatan's best weather is in Jan time frame. We started the day with a visit to Maypan, The three cenotes of Cuzamá and a tripe to Ake, this resort was our last stop for the day and a chance to use some of our points. From Merida directly this is about a 40 minute drive. About 3 k off the main road down a dirt road from the main highway We were hoping the place lived up to the pictures on the web site and we were not wrong. On arrival there were a total of 4 cars in the parking lot. We were guests #5 in the whole resort. Check in easy the bell man helped up load up our bags and escorted us to our room. We had a massive hacienda style room with like 3 story ceilings in it. He help unload our bags and showed us around the room. They felt bad because it was cold that day (69 degs) so they gave us I believe the only room with a outside bathtub (not hot tub, bath tub). He started the water in the tub for us so we could relax after our long day of driving around Yucatan. We mentioned we forgot a bottle opener and he returned with one and some snacks for us. He also lighted candles around the tub to get it read for us to kick back. Nice way to start a stay! Kicking back in the tub one of the staff came by and mentioned we had left a light on inside of the car and offered to go turn it off for us. We gave her the keys, she went out into the parking lot turned off the interior light and came back and returned the keys! A quick walk over to the restaurant and as it turns out we were the only people dining at the time. Super attentive waiter help us with our wine selection and explained about quite a few options on the dinner menu. Food was very good. Lots of local dishes on the menu. The next day we walked around the grounds and headed over for breakfast. Again lots of local dishes/flavors and again we were the only ones in the restaurant. Prices are of course more than what you would pay in town but all hotel/resorts are like that. Still not bad from a US/Peso point of view. Took a walk around the awesome hacienda, the gardening/trees/planting is amazing. the place is so quite as well (since only like 15 people were staying at the resort) At 11 we headed over for a 50 minute spa session. Great time and since I don't speak a word of Spanish they (all the staff in fact) speak enough English to keep the gringo informed. Can highly recommend - hated to go. A couple of things. * The staff is amazing, we felt completely pampered the whole time we were there. * Tip well, don't be cheap. * If you are a worried gringo about the food and water - I've had no issues after staying there. * Why is this place in the middle of nowhere? Well - its a restored hacienda built at least 100 years ago. My only knock on the place. The dirt road from the highway to the resort (like 2KM) is full of potholes. All of the Mexican roads we drove on that day were in better shape (And if you've driven on Mexican roads that's saying a lot). Marriott - maybe go out and patch some of the pot holes~ FANTASTIC - CAN RECOMMEND

Every morning you can get a delicious freshly prepared breakfast served to you out there and listen to the calming noise of the water fountain. The rooms are richly appointed (we always stay in the Mejorada) and well-kept. Service is excellent--they wait outside for you to arrive back every night to let you in! This is really a stellar experience and a great place to stay and experience one of North America's best cities.

This is an absolutely beautiful property with impeccable service. So many nice little touches like welcome drinks on arrival, little chichen it's shaped chocolates on your pillow at night with a special message, organic shower products made with Mayan honey, and of course their incredible breakfast service. At night, there is always someone waiting at the gate to let you in no matter what the tine. We stayed in the Mejorada room with is gorgeous with high ceilings and a jetted tub. Although Casa Azul has its traditional charm, it's definitely upgraded and renovated enough to provide modern conveniences. The air condition was very good, plenty of outlets to charge things, etc. Breakfast service is the standout and often was one of the best meals of our trip. Their chilaquiles is especially incredible but you can't go wrong with any choice. Raul provided exceptional service and also accommodated a speedier service one day when we had a tour to catch earlier in the morning. Luna in the office was always super helpful to answer our questions and give us tips. Location-wise, it's steps away from el Paseo Mantejo and we felt very comfortable walking at night to and from our hotel from the center. Casa Azul cannot be missed!

Visiting at the end of March, meant the weather was extremely hot (close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit each day) and very humid. Keep in mind the weather and amount of mosquitos (there were a TON) when planning your trip! The service and speed at which food came out at the restaurant was quite slow, but we visited during the off season, so they seemed to have been short staffed. During the week you can order from a full breakfast menu, but during the weekend they just have a buffet. Even though the service was very slow, the wait staff were still extremely nice, helpful, and willing to provide recommendations for places to visit in the area. There are three total pools on the property, including one large heated, olympic sized pool, and two smaller unheated pools. There is a good sized gym with modern equipment, as well as a tranquil spa on site where you can get everything from facials, to massages, to body scrubs. They offer daily activities such as yoga, meditation (both at an additional charge), and even a chance to feed the local and quite adorable animals living on the property called coatis. Our room was stunning, with extremely high ceilings, an expansive bathroom with separate shower, an extra large balcony, and even an outdoor bathtub! We loved it! The wedding that took place on the property, was absolutely beautiful and had everything from a exquisite dinner table set up with twinkling lights and lanterns, to fireworks, to even a massive dance floor and raised DJ booth. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend Hacienda Xcanatún to anyone planning to visit Merida!!

Como lo dice el nombre, Viva Merida! :D haha…read more So my bf and i were so excited to be visiting Merida for the first time but we also knew we had a long flight, so wanted a good place to rest. After checking out so many options we decided to wing it on this boutique hotel because we liked the architecture from the photos, and we read the breakfast was good (which is a must for us lol) So that day we landed and got a lil nervous because our taxi driver hadn't heard of it before, but once we drove close we noticed it was just as described, right in the middle of the historic center (awesome location!!). While i was finishing the check-in, my bf pointed out there was a huge glass door in an area that was different from the pics. But then, we were escorted to our rooms, we crossed that door and OMG! We were surrounded by beautiful colonial architecture with perfectly matched art and decor, and our favorite part: the inside patio, where we got to enjoy the weather while having a gorgeous peep of the sky during breakfast. Speaking of which, it was delicious! It's included on the room rate and it's a la carte, you can choose the night before so it's ready when you wake up. Loved the room, bed was comfy, ac worked perfectly, water bottles included, had a safe, nice couch area, pretty bathroom. Keep in mond the bathroom is upstairs, we had no issue but just as reminder lol The location is perfect. It's right on Calle 59, so it's within walking distance of the major historic places, restaurants, parks, museums, etc. Closest park is Santiago, there is a grocery store, oxxo, restaurant, spa and cinema around that one. A few doors down from the hotel there is an Atypico taco place that one of staff girls recommended, so good! Staff and service was excellent! Everyone was so nice and professional and helped with anything we needed. We also requested information about tours, and they booked for us in Kuxtal Tours. Honestly it didn't compare to the other ones we did, they were archeologists, very professional and knowledgable. Oh and last but not least, there is bar service at night so you can relax and get your drink on after a long day of walking around this beautiful city! So what is not to love about Viva Merida Boutique Hotel? I had an awesome stay and would definitely come back!
