It was a very doable walk from downtown Sanlucar as I didn't want to take a chance trying to find parking on narrow spanish streets. To be sure of my location when I was nearer to the spot where I thought it was, I asked a man on the street and he was very kind, even going to a bar across the street to be sure. The Bar Restaurante El Colorao is located in the same place it's been for decades though my new friends remembers a lot of wet smaller streets. Disappear for 40+ years and things change! Tables along the walls so we found a spot and sat. A few people at almost 2pm (spanish lunch hour) waiting for their take-out. Lots of bullfight posters, along with framed fotos of the place, and other views/scenes. TV over our heads in opposite corner had CanalSur on for the ongoing Semana Santa processions. We eventually ordered a variety plate that with whole fried squid, chocos, fish of various types, and fried whole shrimp. It was delicious and served quickly considering all the people here. We later ordered a salad served with tomatoes and boiled eggs, and a local type of tuna, along with great Sanlucar boiled shrimp which was also great. My friends drank a beer and manzanilla wine which I missed so much being in the states and it's difficult to find. As we ate, the place literally filled up. I would say there were close to 40 people in all sitting at tables or ordering take-out, and not even 30mins after we entered (what great timing!). All in all, a great experience and a great new place for me to return to when I'm back in the future! Bar Restaurante El Colorao is listed in some Sanlucar tourist maps. About a 20min slow walk from downtown but worth it if you love seafood like we do! I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a bit of great food and not a touristy place to relax and eat. Saw a lot of gorgeous patios on our walk there and stopped often to admire and snap pixs. Based on living and eating out in San Francisco, I would say the total price would have been 3x what was paid in Sanlucar!

Their menu was broken down into categories so that you can choose appropriately based on your liking and their offerings were of different price points, although none were extravagantly priced. The indoor seating is limited, but most folks hang out outside anyway. It was decoratively more modern than the other tabancos we'd passed throughout the day.

As the weather was a bit chilly on this night, we had our starters in the cellar, and enjoyed a bit of education about the wines they carry and what to expect for the evening. Our meal was not only delicious, but the ambiance of the dining room was elegant. We were on a food and wine tour thru Spain, and this restaurant was specially selected by our hosts as one of the best in Spain. The pictures don't do the food justice, but you'll get a good idea. He made sure everyone was taken care of which is a refreshing change to other restaurants in Spain. Food was delicious and presented well as you can see in my pictures. I honestly cannot describe the super hospitality we received at this restaurant. I would recommend this place over and over again while in Jerez.

There is nothing like sitting at a table here and enjoying the great food and great view. I always have to order tortillita de camarón from here, but there's tons of great food on the menu. Throw a dart and order whatever you hit. I love the pollo frito, jabuguitos, salpicón de mariscos, solomillo a la cerveza, brochetas de pescado, salmorejo, and I could go on. This place has great food that is indicative of this city and this region. Definitely check it out if you find yourself looking for a true "sanluqueño" experience.

It shares a block with a few other restaurants we will be trying and reviewing as well. Why the average rating? We're going to have to go back to really decide what we think about the food compared to some of the other Italian joints we've tried over the last few weeks. They are solid on the following: - Service was super friendly; if they have a lot of English they aren't using it, which is fine because they were patient with our horrible Spanish and that's what we need right now. - Atmosphere is great; they have a patio area in front of the restaurant complete with umbrellas and a patio area under cover. They have water misters going about every 15 seconds for their plants; we found it not to be annoying, but to make it very comfortable to sit on the indoor patio. (we loved the tinto!) This afternoon for lunch we had: - Tortellini Bolognese (son LOVED it) - Spaghetti Pomodoro (daughter was meh; she LOVED our son's tortellini tho!) Hubby and I split the house salad -- not a fan of the mayo based salads and won't order those again off the menu. Had to try it at least once tho! =) Both of us went with a pizza. We really liked the thin crust. To recap: more to follow on our return visit. Will either hold the rating as it is, or upgrade it.
