They offer all kinds of classes, including art, fitness and cooking, and they offer social programs, too. I took a cooking class there last week, and their kitchen is well-appointed and modern. Their fitness room has treadmills, ellipticals and more, and is free to Apex residents. Class prices for Apex residents are always very good. A few classes, including my cooking class, are free! Most classes are during the day, but they're starting to offer a few in the evenings, and the fitness room, which is open until 8:30 p.m. on weekdays, will be open on Saturdays, starting in September.

I was invited by Mayor TJ Cawley (Town of Morrisville) to introduce myself, my role and future initiatives involving Yelp. Each individual present, was kind and made me feel very welcome. Thank you to everyone for listening to me talk tech, community and the vision we all seem to share together. I look forward to attending another session in the near future and maybe piece together a community event where we can all get Yelpers in the Triangle involved. The Anne Gordon Center for Active Adults is located next to Millbrook Exchange Park. There is a…read morelarge parking lot and it is one of the locations for Raleigh Parks and Recreation. It has activities for those 50 and up. They offer classes on many topics from computers to fitness. Then offer arts and crafts, card games and book clubs. They also offer trips which is what I did and took a bus trip from the center. Some that went on the bus trip with me are going on the Alaska trip and others are doing indoor skydiving. I just signed up for a decluttering class. They have a book club that reads a story set in a NC place then they plan a trip to that town and the author usually comes or discusses the book too. Other times they read a book that was turned into a movie and watch the movie to discuss how it was similar and different from the book. This center provides a lot of activities for those looking for activities.

The pools are indoor but they often have the roof partially open so there's shadier areas and other spots in direct sun. Always a lifeguard around and pretty relaxing for parents. The times are a bit limited but overall I've found sign up to be straight forward for the weekends and the play areas at least don't require sign up currently on the weekdays. The fitness classes tend to fill up fast, too, but is included and not at extra cost. I tried the Zumba one and it's meh because the teacher barely interacted with the class. The levels of experience in the room was pretty mixed. I do the punch card and am not a member, so I really only go if it's rainy TBH. However, they do have basic gym equipment so it's worthwhile with the pool access. They currently don't have a family membership so it can be pricey. But it does mean it's not as crowded as I first assumed it would be. So good COVID upkeep and crowd control when I've gone. Hoping they offer more class times or outdoor programs.

I personally most enjoy the variety of exercise classes, from Yoga and Tai Chi to Low Impact Interval Training, Silver Sneakers, and my favorite, Senior Strong.

The dining room food is restaurant quality, with daily specials and a decent fixed menu if you don't want the specials. The fixed menu changes every couple months. The exercise classes are both mentally and physically engaging. There is a lovely movie theater room, art room, outdoor seating area and garden. At the entrance there is a grand piano, bar, and bistro. A resident recently taught a Zentangle class in the art room. She started with "The difference between Zentangle and doodling is mindfulness vs. mindlessness" and without missing a beat another woman said "and you think that's going to help us?!" while a third snorked. The location is unusual, literally minutes away from a hospital, doctors, rehab and temporary assisted living, restaurants (Wasabi has outstanding sushi and sashimi), Costco, hotels, grocery, shopping, plus a lake and outdoor amphitheater walking distance. There is a pool and water aerobic classes, PT. There is a physician's assistant who visits and makes rounds every Friday, simply email or call. The place allows dogs and there are quite a few from small to large. While it is independent living, some have personal assistants and they allow hospice for those couples who don't want to split up (eye opening, hadn't considered that prior to seeing this place). I had a long conversation with many of the residents who moved from other facilities and said there was no comparison. One resident moved the same time as my parents from another Atria facility in Durham (he's quiet until he wants to talk, and then you get a wealth of information). He loves the fact that management has the freedom to manage. Initially the lighting in the theater room was bad, and it took six months but they changed it and now the theater is lovely. He said they will entertain any reasonable request. While I personally didn't do the level of research into senior communities that my parents and sister did since I don't live in NC, the consensus and my experience show this is an outstanding residence and community.

There are two dressing rooms that are spacious. There's a few racks that are 99 cent specials and a bin that is also, but the bin could get mixed up or they change so it might not always be 99 cents. Threw us also a 49 cent bin that seemed to have nice pros as well, but it's kind of deep and I wasnt in the mood to dive into it. Employees were nice. Fun place to check out.

The grounds are spotless and the outdoor space for the residents is inviting an accessible. There are always activities and at least a weekly outing. The aides and nursing staff are friendly and helpful. My mom has not been here long but everyone on staff has been more than accommodating to her needs. The food is delicious. Covid was handled beautifully with masking required and meal delivery to apartments. Unfortunately, things haven't bounced back as much as hoped, impacted by short staffing and staff turnover. During the time of lowest staffing, menus and meal preparation went downhill; however, things are improving significantly. Staffing situations have also caused maintenance and housekeeping to be below par, but the light at this particular tunnel is beginning to be visible. Parking remains abysmal for residents. Improvements have been promised for months but nothing has changed. There are many opportunities for activities, movies, special dining events, vaccinations, and others. I will remain a happy member of the Reserve community.
