Operating out of a cozy and warmly lit studio, Cary's approach to massage is incredible. Modulating pressure to work certain muscles or joints every ounce of tension was eliminated. Cary is the absolute best! I'm a CPT and live with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and the intention that Cary puts into his work really shows. As a life-long dancer, assisted stretching and massage are very important elements in maintaining the health of my much-abused muscles. I had a fabulous physical therapist who decided to move away and replacing her with someone who could do as remarkable a job, I came to find, was near impossible. I tried sessions with a long list of massage therapists, but nobody seemed to grok dancer body-mechanics in the way I dearly needed. Finally, while a friend was visiting from out of town, I went for an evening of lounge-y dinner-y goodness at SF's Supper Club. Cary was one of two people there that night who were offering 15 minute massages as a "menu item". How cool is that?! At the time, I had been tolerating a very painful "knife under the shoulder blade" feeling for weeks, and two different massage therapists had tried to release it to no avail. Get this... Cary managed to remove that "knife" in about 5 minutes. FIVE MINUTES! And he did so in an environment that was clearly not conducive to massage. Needless to say, I grabbed his business card, and set up an appointment right away. His in-studio work is not only perfect for us sporty-types, it's also a spiritual rejuvenation. Seriously. I refer all of my dancer friends to him now, and I recommend him to YOU too. I will be a client of Cary Jerome for as long as he's still practicing, which I hope is endlessly. I have been to see Cary four times now and have really enjoyed and benefited from the massage that he gives. I ask for a medium level of pressure where needed, so his massage becomes a combination of gentle touch and working out the muscular kinks where they exist. It is a great combination of relaxing and stimulating, which takes place in a soothing Eastern healing setting in the Castro. Cary has been trained at the Esalen Institute, and that is evident in his deftness in positioning the body during the massage and being in tune with the client. What I really like about the massage is that Cary devotes a full 90 minutes to it -- that extra half-hour really makes a difference in thoroughness and in my being able to immerse myself in the massage experience.
