PAIN NEVER FELT SO EFFEN GOOD…read more..
Let's face it, as much as its fun partying every weekend, it really does a number on your body, not to mention your feet especially when you're strutting around in 4+ inch stilettos (or at least attempting to). Come (every) Sunday, the balls of my feet are normally throbbing, and I'm completely drained and dehydrated. Chinese Foot Massages/Reflexology has become my only saving grace.
I've gone to 9-10 different Foot Massage/Reflexology places in SF, LA and Vegas, and I have to say Health Feet Spa (signage says "Relax Feet Massage"?) is the CHEAPEST (most in SF charge $35/hour) and BEST one I've discovered thus far.
For Foot Massage virgins, the process is pretty much standard at all places. First, you're brought warm tea/water and crackers. Your feet are then soaked in plastic lined bucket of warm water while you're given a head, neck, shoulder and arm massage. Your masseuse then massages your calves and feet and finishes by flipping you over on the recliner and giving a back and butt massage. So, it's actually a full body massage (clothed) and the foot massage portion is about 1/3 of the massage time.
But, be forewarned, this type of massage is NOT for everyone b/c it can be painful at times. HOWEVER, it should be a good pain; the one that makes you go "Ahhhh, as you feel your back crack in multiple areas."
So, what makes HFS/RFM stand out from the rest?
HIS NAME IS LUCKY....
I've been to HFS/RFM twice now (Sun, 8.22.10 and Sun, 8.29.10).
On both occasions, for one blissful hour, Lucky started by giving me a gentle face and head massage which relieved all the tension in my temples. He then rubbed away all the stress in my neck/shoulders and proceeded to my feet which was one of the BEST and most COMPREHENSIVE foot massages ever! He seem to know where all the pain was stemming from as he concentrated on the balls of my feet with his knuckles and then used the force of his thumbs to run up/down the arch of each foot.
W/ his thumbs, he used strong yet gentle strokes along my calves. Saving the best for last, Lucky used his palms, elbow, and forearms to rub out all the kinks in my back, as well as, used his body weight to crack my back.
The best word to describe the massage was O R G A S M I C!!! He was consistent during the massage; making sure whatever movement he did on one part of my body was replicated on the other part. Strong pressure was used throughout, however, certain areas that are naturally sensitive (i.e. inner arms and shins), he was very gentle.

AMBIANCE/DÉCOR:
HFS/RFM is a tiny place and only has 6 recliners. It's clean and dimly lighted. Don't expect a Zen like experience b/c you will not find it here. It can get loud with the passing LRVs, buses, and chatter among the employees. Just tune it out or bring an iPod.
HFS/RFM seems to be popular w/ those in the neighborhood and gets crowded on the weekends, so it's best to make an appt the day before or at least 4-6 hours beforehand.
PARKING:
Easy-metered street parking and easy 2-hour residential parking on side streets.
Although I love my foo-foo massages from time-to-time, I've never received the same health benefits as I have w/ Chinese Foot Massage/Reflexology (i.e. strengthened immune system; I haven't gotten a cold for 6 months--world record for me). And, while it takes several sessions w/ a CMT to relieve "some" tension in my upper body, it took ONLY one session at HFS/RFM to relieve all the pent up tension in my neck, shoulder and back, not to mention help put the spring back in my feet!
