This is my second "Carver Park" in the last few days but the other is in neighboring Cleburne. So now I needed to research who Carver is. I've learned that George Washington Carver (1864-1943) was an agricultural scientist and inventor who promoted alternative crops to cotton and methods to prevent soil depletion. He was the most prominent black scientist of the early 20th century. He wanted poor farmers to grow other crops, such as peanuts and sweet potatoes, as a source of their own food and to improve their quality of life. The most popular of his 44 practical bulletins for farmers contained 105 food recipes using peanuts. So it's certainly fitting that they're naming parks for the man in Texas.
This triangular shaped park backs up to the railroad tracks and includes street parking and a small parking lot with room for four or five vehicles The park has a playground, picnic shelter and a decent basketball court. The park is shaded and in good condition.
