Took the little people who I babysit out for a day of fun…read more We love parks and had never been here before so decided to check it out. There is foam matting to break falls (because we know they will happen), there's bench tables as well as other places to sit. I liked that the park was set up for different ages and was inclusive, however we apparently went on a day when most kids were out of school so there were times that the big kids were running around and almost knocking over the little kids or big kids playing in areas that are intended for smaller kids. Would we go back? The kids loved it and said they had fun and want to go back so that's what really matters.

This park has almost everything a child would want in a playground. Safe surfaces, safe equipment…read more However, this is not the kind of park where you can take your eyes off a child under the age of 10. My then-7 y/o son was able to climb 8 feet up a structure for its intended use and jump off "on a dare" by other kids and ended up in the ER. I've also assisted with autistic children that elope and get separated due to the multiple exits. There are also multiple places to have a party, first come first served. This also makes things extra crowded. I haven't been there in a while since the heat, but I am hoping they will maintain a good-sized field because independent play (soccer, football, kite flying, etc.) are just as important as playground structures.

This is my second "Carver Park" in the last few days but the other is in neighboring Cleburne. So…read morenow I needed to research who Carver is. I've learned that George Washington Carver (1864-1943) was an agricultural scientist and inventor who promoted alternative crops to cotton and methods to prevent soil depletion. He was the most prominent black scientist of the early 20th century. He wanted poor farmers to grow other crops, such as peanuts and sweet potatoes, as a source of their own food and to improve their quality of life. The most popular of his 44 practical bulletins for farmers contained 105 food recipes using peanuts. So it's certainly fitting that they're naming parks for the man in Texas. This triangular shaped park backs up to the railroad tracks and includes street parking and a small parking lot with room for four or five vehicles The park has a playground, picnic shelter and a decent basketball court. The park is shaded and in good condition. [Review 16061 overall - 243 in Texas - 1566 of 2021.]

There's also three different age levels for swings, a book exchange, and a small rock climbing wall. All in all a great public park. Quite a lot of activities for the kids to play on, use their imaginations and burn off some energy. It's standing on a soft mulch base so the less steady little ones won't scrape themselves when they inevitably fall down. And that's all good stuff! There is also a swing set, benches and picnic tables under a picnic shelter. The main feature for me was the walking track that looks two tenths of a mile around the park. There is an area for learning with some air plane wings and a place to sit and chill. Walk a bit further and there is a waterfall. Wasn't moving a lot of water the day we went, but it was still a good photo. We walked out a bit further and didn't see anything more but an open path for walking. It was nice to be out in the fresh air and walk for a bit.

Except for the previous two years, I usually come here every New Year's Day for the First Day Hike…read more It was incredible, as usual! Angela Bright was the Ranger for the more challenging hike versus the other more moderate hike. There was a story-telling hike afterwards, but I ran out of steam. The pace of the hike was fairly easy-going; however, there plenty of ups and downs on the hiking path. On my way out to go home, I shopped at the park store. There's an older kid side as well as a younger kid side and we've explored both while here. The couple of times we've visited during the daytime, it's never too crowded, which I like. We came for an evening play date once and there were certainly a lot more people, but my son still got to get on what he wanted without a wait. The park also has nice sand volleyball courts, basketball courts a small running trail and a nice sized little fishing pond. One of the best things is that the bathrooms are located in the center of everything so there's easy access and they are typically pretty clean as far as park bathrooms go. Definitely one of my favorites !

There are multiple pavilllions with BBQ grills scattered all throughout the park. In the park, they have a small skatepark where you can practice your latest tricks on your skateboard or roller blades. There is also a splash pad here too that is open to the public during the summer months. They provide a parking lot here with ample parking, so parking should never be an issue. This is a great park to get outside and get some vitamin D, whether you're taking a walk or just letting the kids get loose. When planning a birthday party here, reservations are not required, but is a first come, first serve basis. A picnic shelter with tables and a grill will definitely get some use. The entire park has a chain link fence around it to keep the little ones from wandering off and so you can see strangers approaching. Always a good thing. There's plenty of parking space. The trail is not paved but very well kept, plus wide enough to keep a safe distance during this historical time. The park is actually connected to Walnut Creek Linear Trail, which could give you a good 1.5 mile one way. The trail within Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park doesn't allow bicycle (unpaved). However, if you enter the park from Phillip Thompson Soccer Complex, you can ride your bicycle for about a mile thru Walnut Creek Linear Trail until you officially enter Oliver Nature Park. During the beginning of Spring, the park is filled with beautiful Bluebonnets. Great photo opportunity to get the flowers in the background, just please don't step on them to get closer to these beauties so more people can enjoy the view too.
