Caliber gave us a low estimate $2600, but then they got the car and more than doubled the estimate to over $4600 which caused the insurance company to total the car. They pretty much took the car apart, sent it to a salvage company and 7 days after I dropped the car off, Caliber and the salvage company called me within 10 minutes of each other to tell me to come get my personal belongings and license plate and sign the agreement to salvage, because the car has been deemed totaled. This was the first I had heard of it! Later USAA got around to telling me. Since the damage was minor, just a dented right front door, I told them I wanted the car back. After 4 weeks of haggling over getting the car back, the salvage company, Copart,,finally returned my car in literal pieces. The front bumper and grill were missing (they weren't damaged in the accident) , the doors on the inside were missing and in the trunk and wires were hanging and holes were punched everywhere. Caliber tells me we signed a form allowing disassembly. We don't have anything in writing that said that, but if they did say that, our assumption would have been that they would take off the door and put a new one on. We expected to get our car back as we took it down-drivable, with only a dent in the right front door. Not torn apart!

So when I realized that it had growing rust under the doors, between the front and rear tires, on both sides, I was hopeful for rust repair and not replacement. After a few phone calls to other places, I was guided to Hampton Auto Body West, where I met Charlie. Charle quickly understood my goal - keep this car running as long as possible with minimal investment beyond normal maintenance items. Charlie's provided an estimate to repair the rust and we agreed for him and his team to perform the work and I'm glad we did... the metal under both doors is new, clean, rust-free, and looks great... so good that I'm tempted for them to paint the rest of their car, too... but that goes against that goal of minimal investment in the car. Very poor customer service. Went in for a simple emissions inspection. They claimed that it failed,…read morebut still charged me for it. Sent me to a dealership "to fix the problem with my car's computer system". After going to a dealer's shop and paying $125 for their diagnostic and a second emission test, which passed, the dealer suggested that I go back to SL Hills for a refund, because their state-emission tester was faulty. (It happens to the dealer on occasion, so they get a replacement.) Eric, the owner at SL Hills, said that it was the state's machine, and it wasn't his problem if their machine was faulty. Would not give me a refund for the inspection, much less any compensation for the other $100+ that I spent without cause. I won't ever be going back. Any customer looking for helpful customer relations/service and accountability for their work should also look elsewhere, IMHO.

Honea Auto Body was recommended by friends at Washington University when I requested the need for…read morehelp. I later found out that they are often the body shop patents recommend from WashU. My son got a quote from owner Ken who was professional. The quote was difficult for my son to receive with paying half since we are cash pay. I called Ken to discuss the estimate and he was able to make a few tweaks that lowered the price and improved the part to an OEM. WOW! Not expected. I scheduled the repairs. Since I live out of town I arranged for a time I was visiting. My son dropped off and repairs were completed under the estimated three days. But a snag in the lights caused a delay. It was not there problem. They went well beyond to fix the issue and eventually did with only a small delay. Ken bent over backwards to ensure it was working correctly. Delivery of the car was easy. Ken explained the process he used to repair the car showing us the old bumper. He also explained the difficulty with the electrical that was resolved with great pain and add cost he did not transfer to us. Double WOW!!! The cost came in even a bit less than the revised quote some how, The shop may not look like much from the front, but it's quite large. It once was a building used to perform maintenance on city buses. Let's be clear on typical body shops, they can take advantage of you. Dealers charge premium on labor. I'm so impressed with Honea and have already recommended them to others.
