Carson Valley Swim Center is an absolutely fantastic facility--a perfect spot to bring your family on a hot summer day! The amenities inside are impressive: two water slides, a kiddie pool, two diving boards, a rock climbing wall over the water, and a competition pool. Outside, the setup is just as beautiful, featuring another competition pool and a large grassy area with several covered picnic spots. The lifeguards here are super friendly and excellent with little kids. One lifeguard at the rock wall even took the time to give my daughter and other kids tips on how to climb a bit higher. All of this comes at a very affordable price: $6 for kids and $7 for adults, which is an amazing deal for everything they offer. We visit the pool several times a year for our kids' swim meets. Our favorite events are the outdoor meets because the grassy area is perfect for setting up canopies and relaxing while cheering on the swimmers. We live in the very back of Spanish Springs which for non-locals it makes this a hour fifteen drive to get to this pool. Which we've done twice this week. There's numerous pools in our area and none come even relatively close to how great this pool is. The price is great, it's never that busy, the facility is always clean and the staff are always doing a great job. read more

Love this place!! We go during the week when it's slow. Great place for kids! My sister in law and I have taken the aqua aerobics classes in the evenings! So much fun! I purchased a swim card but it's like $7 to get in! Nice people at front desk and the lifeguards are polite. Can't wait to do the aerobics classes outside when it warms up! We had so much fun today at this community pool. There are two slides that were lots of fun for my 11 year old and also a small kiddy pool for the baby to enjoy. My only complaint is there aren't many accommodations for babies and moms. I found it hard to find an open seat anywhere to nurse and also not much room to change a diaper the locker room was really crowded. A family bathroom would be good here. A great place to unwind away from the hustle of the big city, Carson Valley Swim Center offers simple time to exercise and for kids to play safely INDOORS - though, as of April, the outdoor heated pool will be open and offer even more options. Cheap rates for the now and then visits, but the also offer rates for frequent visitors, including 30, 60, 90, and 365 day memberships as well! The water slide was down for repairs but once it's back in service and we get a chance to visit, I'll likely be bumping this already awesome review to a full 5-star experience since everything else was okay. read more

Not accommodating to our 3 year old at all. They had both the therapy pool closed off for a swim class and tot pool closed off despite no indication of these hours. Our daughter started turning blue from the cold and we were YELLED at by the lifeguard for trying to warm her up 5 minutes early by sitting on the steps. When the tot pool was finally opened, a large group of older kids started playing basketball, diving and playing rough, making the tot pool unsafe for our three year old. No enforcement or support from the lifeguard. Don't come here due to the insane policies and "rules," the lack of information on closures and reservations, and absolutely zero accommodation for toddlers. read more

The facility itself seemed clean and well managed but the staff was extremely disappointing. I had a private toddler and parent swim lesson for my son and our instructor Jordan was horrible. He showed up late and blamed his boss, complained about all the rules he has to follow, gave horrible instructions and just all around had a piss poor attitude. If you hate being there that much just quit. He gave about 15 minutes of half assed instruction and then told me I could just repeat it on my own for the rest of the time left. Such a bad experience for my first time at this facility and my sons first swim lesson. read more

This is truly a nice facility. They've got four different pools and they accomodate every level of ability, from the handicapped to the babies. Three of the pools are inside, and one is outside. They have also improved the air flow, as the air used to be very heavily chlorinated, but it is far less so than before. They've also got an upstairs viewing deck, and it also has been used to host birthday parties. It's a great facility, and a nice option on those hot summer days. read more

Girl was flirting with some guy at the front desk, we stood there and watched them for about 4 min when dude was like, I think you should help them. Girl was like watcha want? I wanted to let her know we wanted to buy a car *sarcasm*. We told her we want admission, she just said okay, and we had to ask if it was free or not in which she proceeded to ring us up. Super unprofessional. There were some pools that were laid out but some of them you can't get into and the only way you know is if the lifeguard blows a whistle at you and gives you the stink eye. Bad experience all around. Only thing that is nice is the scenery. read more

Horrible experience with my 3 year old yesterday. After waiting until the "family swim" opened at 11:00 and driving from Carson, there was little to no safe space for us. The tot pool was turned off and I was told we were not allowed in the therapy pool due to a lesson until 12:00. Around 11:30 they turned on the water features for the tot pool and it was taken over by an unsafe game where 8-10 ~ 10 year old boys used the water dumping cones as a basketball court. The water is 2.5 feet deep and I asked the kids multiple times to play safe around the toddlers. There was no intervention from staff so after a few minutes due to safety concerns we had to get out. The structured lesson in the therapy pool seemed over and there were multiple adults not involved in the lesson using the pool. My daughter was cold so we attempted to just sit on the step to warm up, she was blue and shivering in my arms. We were aggressively told it wasn't open for anyone under 18 until 12:00 because of the lesson. We sat shivering on the side of the pool until 12:00, warmed up and left. We did not feel safe or welcome. read more

This is a beautiful community pool center with very reasonable rates to drop in. My favorite part was the huge outdoor pool with a view of the mountains. There were lots of lounge chairs and shade if you choose. Indoors there is a pool, a therapy pool, kiddie adventure pools and an indoor outdoor slide. I did not see that in action. There is also a fitness center and you can buy snacks like chips, corn dogs and sodas. The bathrooms have showers to use before and after and lockers to store your gear. I imagine it can get very crowded in the summer at this great family facility. read more

My Son really didn't want to endure 2 long car rides this weekend coming up to Genoa and returning to the Bay Area. If forced, he would rather make the trip in the winter when it's cold, rather than dealing with the summer heat. Then once we've here, how do we get him out of the house and temporarily away from his beloved Internet, Magic cards, or Bey Blades? During our latest short stay in the Carson Valley, one answer is the bowling alley (Carson Lanes) or the Carson Valley Swim Center. For the price of admission ($1.75 for the Kid), this is what you get: - A 25 yd x 25 meter, indoor, L-shaped, six lane competition pool - A warm indoor activity pool for children - Two fully enclosed waterslides. - A 93 degree warm pool, fully accessible with a ramp, pool lift & stairs. - 2 outdoor pools: a 25 yard competition pool and small family pool - Two diving boards: 3 meter and 1 meter It was packed the day we went, as there was a swim meet in progress at the time. I decided to relax out of the water and watch the world go by. I eventually moved outside as the indoor humidity was too much. That go more interesting when a swim meet judge (on break) sat down next to me. One parent who walked by wasn't really kidding when he joked about "shaving points" as the judge was enjoying his snow cone. What followed was an fun discussion about parents in general, and what competition does in particular. This parent was just happy knowing that his son was having a good time with his cousin. This is an awesome place to visit if you want a day to get away from the big city. Nestled just outside of Carson city is an indoor water "park" perfect for families, or the individuals who enjoy lane swimming. The rates are very inexpensive, the facility has plenty of lockers to store your valuables, and has a snack bar. For kids, you'll find a large pool about 2 1/2 feet deep, and has floating balls, a contraption that dumps buckets of water from above, and a cool fountain you can run around. I forgot to mention the water slide. There's a large indoor water slide that's a huge hit for kids and adults. For the adults, there are 7 lanes to do lap swimming, there's a large area to use 2 diving boards, and a therapy pool. There are lifeguards on duty at all times, but children under the age of 7 are to be accompanied and supervised at all times. If you are looking for a fun time with family, these indoor pools are heated and a perfect way to spend the day during any season. This is a fantastic place to take the kidlets. Don't get me wrong, the hour long drive sucks but it is a lot of fun once you get there. The swim center is right next to the high school which is right at the 395 and 88 intersection of Minden so you don't have to drive to Garnderville or into the town to get there. It is easy to find, easy parking and once you get inside the kids will have a blast. My little man gets so bored during winter and making this drive was so worth it. There are numerous pools and they all serve a different purpose. There is one pool that is attached to indoor water slides. There are two. One slide is a regular slide while the other one you can ride a tube down. My son loved this. There are life guards on duty as well to make sure the wee ones make it out ok. The second pool is great but caters to little ones. It has a few water toys that include buckets that dump water on their noggins as well as a mushroom shaped object that they can stand under like a waterfall. This pool was about 2 1/2 feet deep max (I think). The third pool has lap lanes as well as a double lane for kids to play in. There is also a pool that is 13 feet deep with a high dive as well as a low dive. At the end of this pool is a climbing wall that dumps you into the 13 feet deep water. For those who do not want to be around the kidlets there is another pool that has wheelchair access and is kid free. Overall I feel this was definitely worth the drive. The lifeguards are watching carefully and I felt my son was very safe there. We were also able to bring in our own food and drinks so that was fantastic. Most places won't allow that. There are many benches and tables to sit at and we had a great round table right int he center of the place. I look forward to bringing my little dude here at least once a month during the winter season. read more

Thank goodness for indoor pools in this desert climate and the late afternoon thunderstorms! When we got here, parking was crazy but luckily there was parking located directly across the street (North) which was free even though it had a sign that said "Permit Parking Only" The parking lot is actually Douglas High School and the "permit" parking is for the high school students so you are good to go if you need to park there. As we walked in, the atmosphere was very busy but the staff was very friendly and seemed to have everything under control. For the whole family, entry fee was only $15.00 which as a very fair price for the entire day and yes, you are allowed to bring food, drinks and don't forget those folding chairs. In case you forgot your munchies; they have a small snack shack available for minimal cravings. Things like candy, chips, ice cream and they also have burritos and corndogs. The drive down from Reno was about 45 mins give or take a few minutes due to some road consruction detours in Carson City. I left this faciliy with great vibes and would suggest this place to friends. If I had to pick out any item that could use improvent; I would suggest that the lifeguards spend a little less time chit chatting with eachother so that all attention can be spent watching the water. It is a shame I pay taxes to support this swim center because I am a Douglas county resident. It is highly mismanaged. The help are not customer oriented. You can never open swim because of exercise classes or swim meets. The web site calendar is useless. What a waste of tax payers money. read more

Called to schedule my daughter for a lesson this coming Saturday. Spoke with some lady who had horrible attitude, was not helpful and even laughed at me when asking a basic question. If that's how the front desk treats adult customers, I only imagine how a back of house instructor would treat my 4yr old daughter. Not going to find out. read more

Well, after swearing we would never have another birthday party at the swim center...we did anyway because it's what our daughter really wanted. I have to say that things went a lot better this time around. I booked one of the BBQ areas about two weeks in advance. The cost is $35 an hour plus the individual price of kids ($3.00) and adults ($5.00) that go on deck. It is still true that you have to pay for fully clothed adults that have no intention of swimming and for $5.00, that's a hefty sum. We got lucky in a sense though because this birthday evidently coincided with the CVSC's Open House that went from 11:00 to 3:00 (our party was 11:00-1:00). The open house included FREE admissions and hot dogs! Initially when we checked in with the front desk they insisted in keeping our car keys. I imagine this is to prevent you from running off without paying (see previous post). I questioned them however since everyone was getting free admissions and sure enough, it counted for our party so that was actually awesome. The BBQ area has shade canopies over the top of the tables and there's a gas grill that they clean before and after. It was nice not having to fuss with charcoal. We brought an EZ-Up and sent it up on the lawn so the kids could sit there in their wet suits and eat. All in all it was a very good birthday. We rented the space for two hours but I think three is a good time frame. I was pleased and would return for a party there again. read more

We totally give the CVSC 5 stars. We travelled to South Lake Tahoe for a family vacation. After having full parking lots at multiple beaches, the front desk recommended going to this swim center. It was only 25 minutes from where we were staying, so we said, "why not?" When we got to CVSC, all the staff were super friendly. My daughter loved the climbing wall, where she would jump into 10 foot deep water!! My son loved the kiddie pool. We had close family friends, who were visiting from Sacramento and their three kids loved the diving board, playing pool side basketball, and the water slides. My wife really loved catching up with her best friend, while me and my college buddy enjoyed eating pizza out side near the pool Our kids are all about the same age so we could let them go off on there own. There were several life guards, and many life jackets. I wanna give many thanks to Alex, Leslie and Ian at the main desk and concessions stand. After a full day of swimming, we were all hungry. And the whole staff were super helpful with making sure our bellies were full... Thanks you guys!!! Good times all around!!! I would say there's a 10 out of 10 chance we'd come back to the Carson Valley Swim Center, when we visit South Lake Tahoe next year... :) read more

Terrible experiences! I went yesterday with my 1,5 and 7 year old after school. We where the only patrons there except for a water polo team practicing. We actually drove 50 miles from Reno to come swim as a reward to my children and because it was raining an indoor pool sounded like a fun idea. When we got there the kiddy pool was turned off and the side where shut down and boarded up. We where told when we arrived that we could play in the kiddy pool, the small sectioned off part of the lap pool and that the therapy pool was now open to the public. However, this was untrue. After about 10 minutes in the kiddy pool my 1 and 5 year old where blue from the cold. We all went to the therapy pool to sit and warm up and immediately the life guard on duty YELLED at my 7 year old son to get out!!! When I asked her why she told me it was the "rule" and that if she made an exception for him she's be fired! Despite the fact we where to ONLY people there to swim. The sign by the pool did say "youth 6 & under with an adult" which to me seemed like I just had to be there for my younger kids but my 7 year old could be there alone. I was told that my son could go "swim alone" in any other pool but could not join us. I went and immediately spoke to the manager on duty and they told me No he could not go in because he was a year too old and that's the rule. She did say he could put his feet in At this time my 1 and 5 year old are screaming because they are cold and we are trying to figure out why their brother cannot join us and my 7 year old is crying because he thinks he's ruined our trip. It was a disaster!!! For a place that boosts "voted best place to take your kids" they are super unaccommodating for families. The manager apologized but said she couldn't refund my money. All she could do was give us a pass for next time. She then encouraged me to complain to the director because it was a silly rule but she would be fired if she let him swim. All I can say is what a disaster the whole trip was and embarrassing that staff Memeber would feel that they would have to tell me they would be fired as an excuse for a pointless rule! All I can say is if your kid is ages 7-17 just know they are not allowed in the therapy pool even with a parent and you are the only people there. read more

This swim center is by far the best I have ever been to! I took my two kids and my two nephews, ages 2, 4, 6 & 10. I thought I was going to have a terrible time as 3 of them don't swim but I was wrong! There 4 indoor pools. one for the two water slides, one therapy pool (almost hot tub warm) one large L shaped pool with the L blocked off for the two diving boards and the last one is for the little ones. It is 1 ft deep at one end to 2 1/2 ft deep at the other. It has fountains spraying, a big mushroom with water flowing over it and buckets that fill then dump on the kids below. It is GREAT! I could kick back and keep an eye on all 3 little ones. They also have 2 pools outside. one olympic sized and one therapy pool. This place gets an A++++ from me very affordable and they have a snack bar read more

I love to swim and appreciate this amazing facility in our valley. All of my children learned to swim in these pools, had birthdays in this facility, and I trained for a tri in these lanes. However, the pool seems often over treated with chemicals. You will smell this upon arrival. Also, I have frequently recieved rude treatment over the years...always from the more mature and seasoned employees. The younger lifeguards and staff are friendly and helpful...seek these folks for help. read more

I grew up in this pool, was appart of the douglas swim team. I recently moved back to the area and figured I'd take up swimming again. When you walk in and want to pay its always a fight to get someone to take your money. You could almost walk in and swim for free and no one would know or care. Everytime I've come they can't seem to get the temp right in the pool. It will be extremely warm on one end and cold on the other or extremely humid one time vs not so bad another time, very inconsistent. Its really annoying when swimming laps. Another person stated the pool is over treated chemically and can be over powering at times. I agree...... They don't have a good calander on their website making it hard to plan swimming laps. Today I went in the morning when the dolphins swim team was practicing making it hard to get a lane. Other people were annoyed as well......Please post their practice times so regular people who want to swim laps won't be SOL..... read more

If you're in Carson City and it's hot as hell and you can't be bothered to drive up the hill to the Lake but your kids are driving you crazy, go to the Carson Valley Swim Center. It's not a water park for sure, but it's nice for what you pay. There's an L shaped pool for laps with 2 diving boards, a warm pool area for adults and six and under, a kiddie pool area, a water slide for those 48 inches and taller and an outdoor pool. They have nice changing rooms and a snack bar that we didn't use. It's enough to keep the kids entertained and out of your hair. read more

I was there on 4th of July with my kids. I have never been to a pool with so many stupid rules. They had half their indoor and outdoor pool blocked off for lap swimmers. The small portion open was over run by teenagers splash g about. We went in a lane that had no swimmers and was asked to leave because kids weren't allowed. I asked them why they blocked half of their pool on 4th of July "rec" swim. There was 4 people using half the pool. They have no hot tub, but have a warm pool. It's capacity is 30, so good luck getting in. If you do get in, surprise it's only for 6 and under or 18 and above. I don't feel this place caters to families. If you are above 18 and want to swim some laps it's the place for you. read more

I'm done trying to figure out the ever-changing rules that only apply randomly. Really, really frustrating! The pool itself is great, but the staff are inconsistent with policies. There have been many examples in the last year, but here is today's. For instance, it's ok for a toddler to be in a bikini, but my child can't wear a more modest leotard, because it's "not technically swimwear". What's the difference? It's the same shape and they both have spandex. How can you logically distinguish between the two. I'd like my daughter to be more appropriately covered. I understand they don't want someone showing up in cut-offs and a t-shirt, but can we have some standards and allowances for modesty as well. I won't be back, and I'll be spreading the word. There are other pools in the area. I highly suggest you choose one of them instead. read more
