The fried chicken dinner is the best in town! 4 stars because their draft beer tastes funny.

We visited the beautiful Catholic Church and visited with Tim who has worked at the church for about 15 years. He was very nice and has a lot of fun info on the church and town. VC is an old silver mining town and it still looks like it did way back then. Wood boardwalks through town with lots of gift shops . We visited in the off season but starting in May there are all sorts of things to go. Train rides, old time gun shows. It's definitely a tourist town but a fun one. The drive up was very pretty. Ended up at Mark Twain Saloon and it was a great stop. Great looking old bar. Bartender was fun. Had sone whisky and a beer. Visited with a couple locals and had a great time.

In the last year the took over the space next door to the south. This space has a small kitchen for snacks and some gaming machines, making the original area less crowded. The old school bar and decor is a step back to days when miners would come in for a whiskey after hours of searching for silver. On non event days it's nice to enjoy the great staff. During events the Twain can be quite popular and busy.

I stopped in here with my crew a couple of weeks ago but forgot to write a review. I just…read moreremembered when I came across the food pics! We went to the restaurant inside the Gold Dust Casino in Carson City. There was a little wait to get the host to seat us. They were doing double duty as the cashier as well. The smoke in the restaurant is less than it is in the casino, as far as smaller casinos go, the smoke wasn't super bad. We got seated and drink orders taken. I see they have a prime rib special available 7 days a week for $16.99, not just on Friday's and Sat. like some other casino restaurants, plus, you don't have to wait till 4pm either, available at 11am seven days a week! I went with that, medium rare please. Someone else ordered the breakfast, "Little Star", basically a standard 2 egg with hashbrowns and toast and sausage for $7.99. One of the crew ordered the "Wrangler" burger, a double bacon cheeseburger with onion rings in the burger, served with fries. For appetizers, we got the onion rings and the loaded potato skins. The food all arrives and everything looks scrumptious. My Prime Rib was a decent size cooked as ordered, served with a baked potato. The appetizers were good, I actually like the loaded skins with the melty cheese and bacon. The onion rings were a smallish portion, but I guess it was just $4.99 so there's that. The Wrangler burger was quite a sight! He said the meat was real good and seemed like bigger than the two 1/4 pound patties on the menu. I'd come back here again, this is a new revamped menu from years ago.

Another good visit--both at The Grille and Gold Dust West Casino…read more Customer service truly goes a long way, and visiting here always reminds me of being in Vegas. I frequent many dining establishments across Fernley, Sparks, Reno, and most recently Carson City, and from our experiences, Gold Dust West stands out. The employees we've encountered consistently provide good to great customer service and genuinely understand the value of repeat customers and long-term business. They almost always have a wait during dinner hours; however, tables turn quickly and the kitchen keeps up with demand. We've never waited long for our food, which says a lot during peak times. I honestly wish this level of understanding and execution could be instilled in some other nearby cities here in Northern Nevada. Grateful shout-outs to Rebecca in Guest Services, Jelly our server, and Jason (J) the bartender at GDW Casino. And at The Grille at GDW Casino--thank you to Manager Bryant, whom I truly appreciate for taking the time to have a conversation, Host Ashley, and our great server Aquiles. Also, kudos to the chef and kitchen staff for consistently delivering good-quality food in a timely manner. Great service, great teamwork, and another enjoyable visit.

If you're looking for a polished, modern, five-star hotel experience... stop reading now, turn…read morearound, and book yourself a Ritz-Carlton somewhere else. If you want authentic Wild West history, charm, character, and an unforgettable stay, then the Silver Queen Hotel is absolutely the place. This historic hotel dates back to the 1800s and is famously known for being haunted--and full of stories. The owner is a lovely woman who you'll often find tending bar downstairs herself. She's incredibly knowledgeable about Virginia City's history, current happenings, and yes... a little local gossip too . She also owns the Cobb Mansion B&B and truly embodies the spirit of this town. We adore her. We stay have started staying here every New Year's Eve--this was our second year, and we've already booked all of our rooms for next year. That alone should say a lot. The Silver Queen is rustic, antique, and unapologetically historic. There are no modern amenities like A/C, TV, or Wi-Fi--and that's exactly the point. This hotel was adapted from historic living quarters and offers a genuine glimpse into what Virginia City was like during the Gold and Silver Rush of the 1850s. The walls are thin (of course they are--it's old!), the rooms are quirky, and the entire experience feels like stepping back in time. The rooms are clean and have everything you need for a short stay. Would I stay here for a full week? Probably not. But for a night or two during special events--absolutely perfect. Virginia City hosts several saloon crawls throughout the year and they are an absolute blast. We try to make it to all of them, though sometimes we can only coordinate one or two. We'll be staying here again for the next crawl, 'The Devil Made Me Do It' Valentine's-themed saloon crawl. We always dress up for these events and staying the night at the Silver Queen is part of the fun. The Silver Queen always participates and always shows up in style. The bar downstairs is fantastic. Cocktails are very reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly, accommodating, and fun. It's exactly what you want from a historic saloon. One honest note: during our most recent stay, Room 11 had a noticeable moldy smell, and the carpet near the clawfoot tub was damp. While not surprising given a bathtub on carpet in an old building, it could definitely use attention--either deep cleaning or replacing the carpet with tile or another moisture-friendly option. Aside from that, the rooms are historic, funky, and immersive. As a former Nevada history teacher--I can confidently say this place is worth visiting. Virginia City itself is a historic marvel, literally built into a mountainside, and the Silver Queen is right in the thick of it all. The Comstock Lode silver mined here was so rich it helped end the Civil War and earned Nevada its statehood on October 31, 1864. Inside the Silver Queen, you'll find the iconic display of the "Silver Queen" made of over 3,000 silver coins, all minted from silver mined beneath the city itself. It's incredible. Add in the charming wedding chapel, and it's easy to see why so many people choose this place for unforgettable, historic weddings. Bottom line: This hotel isn't meant to be fancy. It's meant to be historic, and it delivers 110%. We love the Silver Queen Hotel & Bar, will always be regulars, and look forward to returning year after year--especially for New Year's Eve and local events. To be honest, we come to Virginia City quite a lot! It is a really fun place to visit and always has the most entertaining events that one would never see elsewhere! We live in Reno, so we are only 20 minutes away. We drive through here on our vintage car rallies and stop for drinks and lunch. We visit for special events. We will come up just for fun! Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates history, character, and the real Wild West.

A "haunting" experience indeed! My boyfriend and I stayed one night at this infamous hotel. The…read morerooms are true to their age, so expected it to be dated. The walls in the room are thin with gaps in the door with the floors so there is light that comes in from the hallways. Again, I need to be explicitly clear that it is a historic establishment, and they honored the space. None of these things bothered me, but are worth mentioning! My downside was that the electric plugs didn't really work and it made it difficult for us to charge our phones. And the next morning I did find a stain on my bedsheets. For that reason I took off a star. This was truly a one of a kind experience and worth a visit.
