We were in South Tahoe for some rest and relaxation and had a day trip to Carson City on our agenda. It was about a 45 minute drive for the 30 miles to Downtown Carson City. First stop was the Nevada State Capitol, which you can self-tour with their free brochure. Then we walked along N. Carson St. and saw the Nevada State Legislation building, Supreme Court of Nevada, Attorney General's Building and Carson City Hall. There's also two casinos on the street as well. Walking in the area, we noticed several interesting old buildings with unique architecture. Our final stop was a drive to the Governor's mansion several blocks away. The Governor was in the Halloween spirit as the mansion was all decked out in Halloween décor. It was a nice trip to check out the Carson City's quaint downtown and civic center.

Carson City looking East 08/22/18 ~ still a lil smoky from the CA wildfires

This is the capital city of Nevada plus the place I work and call home for over 20 years now. As they say you are either born/from here or eventually Home Means Nevada anddd I am happy to say the later. Centrally located from Reno and beautiful Lake Tahoe we are about 30 minutes from either with mom & pop eclectic shops to big retail shopping, culinary delights from fine to casual dining, breweries to coffee houses and plenty of casinos to see if your lucky enough to hit it big. Gambling not your thing well look at the beauty of the landscape around you for loads to do with hiking, biking, many golf courses and my favorite winter activity of snowshoeing. We also have museums here in Nevada's State Capitol from the State Capitol Building, Carson City Mint, the Nevada State Museum features an 1800s coin press, be sure to take the kids to the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada that offers science and art activities or head over to the Nevada State Railroad Museum that displays vintage trains with ones that you can even ride on. How about take in a show while you are in our quaint city we have a lovely movie theater at the Casino Fandango, I know you were looking for something a little different from the norm, how about movies outside in Mills Park, at McFadden Plaza or the Carson City Library. Oh wait your were looking for something more along the lines of a theatrical performances like The King and I, South Pacific, 42nd Street, The Little Mermaid or the Nutcracker well look no further than the Carson City Community Center for talented, outstanding performances that won't break the bank. How about stroll on by the BAC (Brewery Art Center) to take a pottery class or see some stunning art pieces there, Artsy Fartsy or The Nevada Artists Association Gallery. You can also catch the Carson City Symphony at different locations around town and events they are incredible!! Be sure to follow me for happening things around town for concerts at BAC, McFadden Plaza and monthly tastings, wine walks, beer crawls or the CC Ghost Walks in Downtown that tell some of the rich history of yester year. Take a hike up to C-Hill sit up there for a moment while taking in the entire view of our beautiful town, it's a sight you will not soon forget. Come out for our fantabulous events Run What Cha Brung Car Show, Capital City Brewfest, Epic Rides, CTR Rockabilly Riot, CC Rodeo, Jazz & Beyond Festival, Nevada State Fair, Carson City Fair, Nevada Day Parade - you will have the BEST time! I could go on and on about SO many wonderful events, restaurants, people and places, take a stroll downtown and walk around the beautiful Capitol grounds, you just may see my furry kids & I pass you by so be sure to say Hi! Enjoy Carson City and see what you find here, there is SO much around and close by! Look forward to what you share on here ~ Have a wonderful time exploring Carson City or maybe calling Nevada Home! I was hungry, but she wasn't so we shared a few dishes, which were graciously supported with fresh serving plates for each dish. We really do love sharing plates. Martini for me, delicious blood orange Italian soda for her. Calamari appetizer. Golden beet salad with fried goat cheese. Seafood with squid in pasta. We both loved every bite, including the perfectly al dente noodles. I secretly wish for bread, but I'll know to order it next time. The wine selection was amazing, and I ordered a special Chiati limited from 2023.Twas amazing! Service gracious, friendly, and impeccable. Will return!

Hostess was really sweet and cheerful. Loved that. Now is where the problem started. Our waiter never introduced himself, but the receipt says Steve S. He walked up, said do you want something to drink besides water, that is where the conversation ended when we said no thank you. We asked for ice for the water as they try to keep it authentic. He goes and grabs some ice, puts into 1 glass and walks off. We had a glass each. So, I still have no ice. Never did get any either!!!! He never came back so sometime else dropped off the food. For that fact, he never came back period. We had to ask the hostess to get him for us. She said he would be right there, time passes and still have not seen him. He NEVER came back ever. The hostess had to go get our ticket and ring us out. So yeah, tip was not great either. You get a tip for service rendered to a customer. If you do not do anything, it will reflect! On to the food. So for the waiter 0.1 stars. Worst wev3e ever had!! We ordered the warm olives 3.5 stars They were ok. The cheesy pull apart bread. Very little cheese on it at all. If you're calling it cheesy, I want some cheesy on it. 3 stars The octopus with 1000-layer potatoes and a dressed salad. Octopus, solid 4 stars as I have never had it in my life to compare it. Was tender chewy if that makes sense. The aioli that comes with it pairs nicely! 1000-layer potatoes 5 stars solid!! I would eat these for a meal. Salad 3 stars, dressing was very little. So, all in all, ambiance was really nice, meal was just ok and waitstaff was the worst I've ever had in a nice restaurant Everyone keeps talking about their great experiences, so where was our great experience. So due to this 1 bad experience, we will not give it a 2nd chance.

I'm giving 4 stars because there are still some great things here, and I genuinely want to see this place succeed. The good: The pasta is still fantastic. My boys and my husband all ordered pasta dishes, and every bowl was huge, perfectly cooked, and honestly delicious. They were raving about it. If you're craving a generous plate of pasta, they're still doing that right. We also ordered the Prawn Melinsae -- a dish we always get -- and it tasted different this time. Not bad, not great, just noticeably... off. Hard to put a finger on it. Where things went wrong: My mom and I both ordered fish (her the Sole, me the Salmon). Unfortunately, both were undercooked -- mine slightly, hers completely raw. This was especially disappointing because the Sole was the entire reason we came for her birthday; it used to be her favorite dish in Carson City. We asked to switch to the Eggplant Parmesan instead because we didn't want the fish simply re-cooked and possibly overdone. There was a bit of back-and-forth at first, but eventually they agreed. The issue is... the eggplant wasn't the same either. It used to be my go-to dish and the best in town. Now it's totally different, and not in a good way. The highlight: Our server was wonderful -- an older gentleman with a genuine Italian vibe, clearly passionate about his job and the restaurant. He advocated for us with the kitchen, made sure we were taken care of, and even brought my mom a birthday dessert on the house. He saved the experience, and I truly appreciate that. Final thoughts: I'm not sure if something changed in the kitchen staff, suppliers, or overall direction, but the shift is noticeable. For a $250 bill, the experience just didn't match the way it used to. If you stick to the pasta, you'll likely have a great meal. The seafood, though, I personally won't order again. I really, really hope they figure out what's going on, because this place used to be a gem and I'd love to see it get back on track. We love supporting small businesses, and I don't want to see this spot lose what made it special.

Needless to say, they have room for special events and private parties. So if you are looking for a venue keep them in mind. The Prime Rib was outstanding. Indeed, it was the best Prime Rib I have had in a very long time. Our waiter and the Maitre de were outstanding. They made us all feel so welcome and almost like we were family. We all are still raving about the Prime Rib. There is something so wonderful about a place treating you like family. The human connection is something we all want. It is so awesome to feel appreciated and connected to our world and others. The staff here were outstanding. Everyone commented on the service we received. The appetizers and salads were tasty. The family members who had the salmon said it was excellent. Everyone was pleased with their meal. Portions are generous. All of us remarked on how good the food was. Not to mention, the price was right. The ambiance might be a little lacking. There are no tablecloths. However, keep in mind that tablecloths come with a cost of their own. They need to be laundered and then some need to be replaced. So there would be an added cost. So the question is would you prefer a little more ambiance or a cheaper price for an excellent meal? However, if you are looking for excellent service with delicious food at a reasonable price then this is the place for you. Not to mention, that the drive to Carson is beautiful. Plus there are plenty of things to do in Carson to enjoy. Perhaps it is time to beckon back to a slower pace of life. Take a nostalgic trip to Carson to see the Capitol all decorated for Christmas. Stop in at the Nugget and enjoy a dinner at the steakhouse. I wish I could remember the name of the Maitre de and Waiter I hope that management sees this review and gives the KUDOS and a big SHOUTOUT for delivering such great service. We were told that the chef was on vacation. Should have just left then. Then after being seated and given menus, they came and took them back and gave us this paper revised menu since the head chef was out. Our actual waitress was Chelsea and she was fantastic. If not for her, I would give 0 stars if possible. The restaurant itself we really did not get to see much as we were tucked away in the 1st dining area by the entrance. No worries. It was nice and quaint inside and that's about where it stopped!! I asked about bread, and a different lady brought us 2 rolls that were barely room temp. Basically went from bag to bowl. We ordered our prime rib medium. As anything over that gets tough. We also ordered it with broccoli and when it arrived it had inedible asparagus. I mean they were so fibrous we could barely cut through them. Chelsea apologized and brough us out some broccoli on the side, and just like the rolls, it was barely room temp. Not her fault by no means. Now onto the very overly cooked prime rib. There was 0 pink in it. It was well done and very tough. It was also barely 1/4 inch thick. I mean the thinnest prime rib I have ever seen for supposedly being a 9oz. I have had 8oz at other restaurants twice the size of what we were served.. I managed to cut a couple pieces for my husband to eat. I dd not eat any of it. Basically we sent the majority of it back when we left. The only plus thing about this visit was the mashed potatoes and gravy. Still luke warm at best. I ate about 3 bites of food and was done with it. It was the worst prime rib I have ever seen/tasted in my life. Now Chelsea went and got our receipt for us, which of course was no charge, but if it was, I would have never paid 22.99 for what we received. It was that bad. Chelsea apologized several times and like we told her, you do not control what comes out on these plates. So yes she did get a nice cash tip for being such a sweet waitress and trying to do what she could. As far as the restaurant, we will not be going back for anything there. It is also only open Friday and Saturday from 4-close. I came home and made a sandwich for my now late dinner!
