Roach infestation!! My uncle was a resident here, and our experience was extremely concerning. Over the course of several months, he was in and out of the hospital. When he was finally evaluated more thoroughly, we were told he had wounds that had not been properly managed. Communication and accountability were also major issues. We were informed that his personal belongings were sent with him to the hospital, but when he arrived, he had nothing. His wallet, bank card, and gold chain were missing, and we have not received clear answers about what happened. This situation has been stressful and heartbreaking for our family. The food here is the best! New cook and great food. The staff is very helpful and caring towards my family member. The cost is affordable and my dad receives the best care, even though he is a grumping old man. They known how to deal with him and maintain his dignity. My uncle lived there. Sketchy things occurred. Somehow he always "lost" his debit card. When he passed and we looked through his bank statements, he had cash withdrawals from the liquor store down the street even though he was bound to a wheelchair. His bank suggested we file a police report. I called and left a message to speak to Ginger regarding this but no return call. Please do not put your loved ones here!!! read more

My cousin has lived here for more then 5 years and the care he receives is great. The staff has great communication and Ms. Ginger is always available to speak to if we have any questions, even though she is very busy. They always include the family in all of the function. The staff does their best. I think though it's just hard. So many people live here. I myself share a bathroom with someone. What I do think about the price is it's good. Food is edible and someday I do like it. Don't expect the Ritz. Make sure you or someone can advocate for you and you will be fine. If ZERO STARS were an option, that is exactly what I would give this horrible place. The lack of care is astonishing. My sister has been here for 2 years and her health as declined to where she is now in the hospital fighting for her life. When I went to the ER to see her the ER doctors told me that she had bruises down her entire torso, shoulder, face and foot. Turns out her finger and 2 toes were broken. Ginger sent her to the hospital for the cause "having a hard time breathing". Nothing about falling. So the next day I stop by to talk to someone to see if she fell and no one would help me. They left me sitting in the hall way giving me excuses as to why Ginger couldn't come talk to me. I ended up speaking to a friend of my sisters and he confirmed that he was the one that found her on the floor in the corner of her room with a bloody nose and blood coming from her mouth. I end up walking out to get back to the hospital to let the doctors know what I had found out. 30-days later my sister is still in the hospital and I am trying to get information to have her moved and the same thing happens. Ginger avoids all contact and the female that answers the phones is her wingman. Ginger has absolutely no business in this field of work. The CNA's and LVN do not care about the residents here. My sister would get her meds given to her 2 times a day. If she was sleeping they would just put them on her nightstand in cups. Never made sure she took them and with her memory not being as sharp as it was when she first moved in she would take both cups at one time ending up in the hospital over and over with low blood pressure. We also found mice droppings and roaches in her room. When we contacted Ginger via phone and email me never received a response nor did they ever address the issue. They are supposed to wash the residents clothes, and bath them. We noticed that her dirty clothes hamper was full and her dresser was empty and she hadn't been given a bath in over a week. We bathed her and took her clothes home to wash and we found a mouse in with her clothes. We put the mouse in a baggie and showed Ginger still nothing was addressed. Long story short, please take my advise, and do not put your loved one here. read more

Nightmare! My husband was there about a month and a half. After I got him settled, I called him to hear a caregiver yelling at him while I was on the phone with him. When I complained to the management, the attendant went into his room and threatened him and told him she'd have him put out on the street. He was begging me not to complain anymore because he felt that she might physically hurt him. The toilet was always clogged and sewage flooding the floor. Only way to flush it was to turn on the facuet under the toilet. Heavy smell of urine from the hallways. He was always dirty. Nails, toenails and hair were gross. I don't think he was being bathed. He complained about not being changed out of his diaper for the whole day. The food was disgusting. The place has roaches. Dirty windows. Yelling and howling from the other residents heard through out the nights. My grandmother was there when if first opened, about 30 years ago. She liked it then. That's why we chose to go there. But it has deteriorated. Signed him in quickly because I was taking him out of a bad recovery care center that had 5 men crammed into one small room and he was developing bed sores. We got there right before the management left for the weekend. Didn't really have time to check the place out. I had depended on his friend to check it out but he didn't get past the lobby. He thought it looked OK and better than where he was at. At least he had a room to himself but he mostly stayed in and he didn't venture out except for meals. Had to line up like a school cafeteria before meals for industrial and canned food. No guest allowed in the cafeteria. I found an awesome place in Montclair - Aqua Ridge- It is about a year old, clean, modern and the place is immaculate. A chef prepared fresh healthy meals with menus provided and the residents are served in a beautiful dining room-resturant style. Library, pool table, exercise room, art room, nice patio, coffee, tea and snack center and a place to have family events with a kitchen available at no extra charge, events and day trips transportation to doctor visits. Guest and family are allowed to visit at anytime and dine with the residents. Main thing is they respect their residents and treat them with diginity. Yes it's about $1,000 more. but well worth it. They answer the phone immediately. read more

I called Carson Assisted Living and Retirement Facility no less than 5 minutes ago (on Tuesday, May 28, 2024). As usual, I was spoken to in a very indignant and demeaning fashion by a person who answered the phone. I reported that my significant other, and gave his name, was reporting pain in his right hip/waist area when we walk and that he has been reporting such for several months to-date. This person who spoke to me, spoke to me as I'm usually spoken to, in a very condescending fashion. That person, with a female voice, snidely told me that she would have to check to see if I was on the list to discuss my significant other's issues at that facility. He has been there since October of last year, 2023. I am always talked to as though I have no business discussing him or talking to him. I've known my special friend for many years. His health clinic in San Pedro has me listed as an authorized contact to speak on his behalf. We lived together before he wound up in this facility. However, each time I call to report something that pertains to him, I am talked to as though I am a nobody or an intruder. Again, the person I just spoke to, to report my significant other's physical issue, repeated it back to me incorrectly (wrong body part). When I told that person I wanted to speak with any medical or clinical person on duty there, and that I wanted to speak with that person directly so that I could say what I said and it would be relayed correctly, this person became even more indignant. (Earlier in the conversation, she did mention that she would refer my call to "Julie.") I asked her her name. She replied that she could not, was "not allowed to" give me her name, yet she constantly referred to me by my first name (I am a senior citizen over the age of 70). She has a very young sounding voice. I considered her discourse with me very inconsiderate, disrespectful and condescending. As soon as it can be worked out for my loved one to be in another facility, that will be initiated so that he can immediately get out of that facility. He is unhappy there and he has expressed that unhappiness to me many times. I have written previous reviews about his treatment and my unhappiness with the way he has treated there, as well as the way I am addressed when I call on his behalf. Whoever staffs this facility really needs to get more mature, conscientious and thoughtful people at the phone-in desk, as well as the office. There seems to be absolutely no compassion and no professionalism demonstrated by anybody I ever talk to there. It should be noted that I have talked to at least two people over the past year who have had loved ones in that facility or who actually worked there when it first opened many years ago. They had glowing reports of it as it was then. I do not think they would feel the same way now if they knew what I was experiencing. read more

I used a sharpie to write my mom's name on everything and it would disappear. they never washed my Mother's face! I visited every Sunday and sometimes during the week. My mom would still have the same clothes on. When I moved my mom out, they gave me a bag of her "belongings" 90% of the stuff was not hers! Ginger does not care about any written complaint! she gave me a video tour during Covid of a nice room. My complaint surrounds a lack of compassion and repeatedly being scolded by young front-desk staff about doing something I did not do. My partner and I spoke shortly after 9:00 AM this morning, Tuesday, January 9, 2024, when I called to say hello as I usually do every day. At the time of my call, he said he was waiting for someone to help him with the shower. I told him to just wait until someone was able to help him. He said he had been waiting a long time. I called him back over 40 minutes later, and he said no one had come to help him. I did call the front office and was told by the staff person covering that someone WAS helping him. My companion spoke some 15 minutes later and he said no one had shown up to even say when they'd get around to assisting him. At that time, I telephoned the office and was immediately put on 'hold'. I waited awhile, then called back and when that same person who answered the phone before answered again, I politely told her that almost 45 to 50 minutes ago, she told me that someone WAS HELPING my partner with his shower. That was not the case. Then, that person proceeded to scold me by saying, "you keep calling and we can't have you calling here every five minutes asking about helping someone with a shower!" I have no idea WHO she thought she was talking to before, but it was not me. This person (young woman) sounded about as sensitive as a robot. No doubt her attitude and her manner of speech to me is what causes such facilities to get such a bad rap from relatives and the public in general. It should also be noted that I've had negative experiences with the same office staff person, who staffs during the day in the office. I find that often she is condescending, unprofessional, and apparently not well-suited for the position she holds. This very same. Individual has even called the Sheriff's Dept. on me one time when I visited and attempted to speak with my companion, claiming that, "he does not want to talk to with (me)." She even HELD THE ENTRY DOOR SHUT and glared at me through the glass panels. The truth is that my partner was upset with me, but that was a personal reason and this staff person had no business intervening in making a judgment call or involvement about the circumstances surrounding his feelings. My suggestion to the County of Los Angeles is to first provide some sensitivity training to these people who sound like they should be doing data entry in an office with no public interaction - - before assigning them to board and care facilities, such as Carson Assisted Living and other such facilities. Totally abominable that there's such a lack of concern from front office staff about what they say and how they interact with clients and their loved ones. Overall, again - - the County of L.A. should develop training programs for everyone assigned to work administratively in such board and care facilities, and ONLY with mature individuals who have completed programs designed to demonstrate to clients, family and loved ones that they CARE about how clients and family members are treated, and who can interact with clients/patients and families in a caring and professional manner. read more

My uncle has been living here for 8 months. I have seen him get better with his health and personal care. The times I have visited the staff has been very helpful and nice. I see my uncle happy and has lots of friends now that he moved into Carson Senior Living. They provide him with good meals and they take them on trips. Front office and care staff are awesome!!! read more

My mom was a resident at Carson Senior at the last years of life and I have to say they did an awesome job keeping her comfortable. Staff was very kind and loving. I am so glad I choose this facility for my mom, she passed on with people she loved and they loved her!!! We will forever be grateful! My mother died after something went terribly wrong in this place! She was perfectly healthy when I picked her up on Saturday, December 6, 2014. On Sunday evening I get a call from a family member that my mom wasn't breathing. When I called Carson Assisted Living & Retirement Center to find out what happened, an employee started reading what sounded like a script of what occurred. I was told that she had Pneumonia!!! She did not have Pneumonia Saturday!!! My 81 year old mother was health as an ox, with the exception of her memory loss. What is really sad for me, my mother was buried the following week on December 13, 2014 and I have yet to receive a phone call, card, nothing. I am glad we found this place with the staff who are trained to care for dementia clients. They are all nice and caring. If I could give this dump negative stars, I would! The previous reviews couldn't have been written better. Their reviews have been my family's experiences as well from deteriorating health, to malnourishment, to scabies. Although I would add bed bugs! Also, anything of value has been stolen! From perfume, to money, to clothing! We've written her name on everything, but it doesn't matter. It always goes missing. A few times, we've made mention of items missing only to find them mysteriously back in her room the next day! Their policy of writing new items purchased in the "log" is pointless! It should be called the Log of Stolen Goods! On one particular day, my family and I arrived at this place to find my grandmother sitting in the dining room with cold food in front of her waiting to be fed by a nurse who was feeding someone else in their room! I confronted the nurse who was sitting beside her feeding someone else and asked why she couldn't feed them both considering the gentleman she was feeding was eating rather slowly. She just sat there like a deer in headlights! I asked if she'd treat her own mother this way and for her to treat everyone as if they were her loved ones. Still nothing. She was just emotionless! Luckily we were there to bring my grandmother lunch that she would actually enjoy! We wheeled her out of there and she enjoyed her lunch with us! On several occasions we've dropped off lunch and have asked them to feed it to her only to find it IN HER ROOM untouched DAYS LATER! The most recent problem was my grandmother's bruised ankle. We'd bought her some new slippers and when we tried putting them on her, she screamed in agony! We took her to urgent care only to find out she had a severely sprained ankle. Considering my grandmother is wheelchair bound, this leads us to believe whomever is wheeling her around, banged her foot against a wall or door! How could they not know she was in pain when a mere touch of her foot caused her to yell and scream! My grandmother is elderly and has communicated with us that she does not like her surroundings changed so we came to a happy medium. They convinced us to move her downstairs, closer to caregivers claiming she would get better care which we did. She's been downstairs approximately two months and nothing has changed. They're still stealing and still not giving her any better care. We've had several conversations and meetings, but we are at our whits end and must find other care for her. read more

My mother is housed her currently.She has dementia and the facility takes her ssi for payment.Because of covid they are locked down. They will not let you visit. The staff is extremely rude and ginger says if you dont like it leave. The place is very worn because of covid I cant even do a walk through to see if it is acceptable. My mother complains of being hungry.The staff only care about whats on there plate.Most are not compassionate and the admistration could care less about any of your complaints.They have a roof over there heads but that is about it. The place should be investigated because of the way it treats people and patients. The patient is not first.My mothers state of being is my number one consern. The home said all kinds of thing to get you there but have not done anything good for the clients.No food no doctor appt no shower I am unable to talk with her regularly and they thinks it is funny when put on hold 19 times. let me start with saying that i have been to many different senior living centers and this one by far is at the rock bottom. After entering the facility their is not a single person at the entrance to direct you to your family member. or even offer help. After i walked around for about 5-10 minutes i finally stopped a nurse (i think no badge) i asked for my grandmother and the lady kindly took me to her room which i had passed. Once we got to the door she pulled out a ring of keys and unlocked her door to let me in.. (locked door?) My grandmother can not walk and weighs about 90lbs The person who opened the door would not tell me why the door was locked and left. once i got in the room she was just laying there. windows were closed it was stuffy in the room her TV did not work and there was no phone,call button or any way for her to contact someone EVEN a nurse if she needed help. After being there for about 2-3 hours not once did a nurse come to check on her. not for pills not even to see if she was ok. If you care about your family member this is the place NOT to put them Update 3/3/14 I went to go see my grandmother today. i got to her room which was locked. A staff member walking by offered to open it. She was not in her room. I asked the person if they know where she could be. They told me that she was probably being given a shower.and would return in about 15 minutes I waited for about 45 minutes and then went to go find someone after she did not return. I went to the office and asked if they could tell me anything. They said she was talking a shower. I told them i had been waiting for about 45 minutes. and asked if a shower normally takes that long. They said no. The person i was speaking too went and asked somebody else and then another.. After asking about 4-5 people they figured out she had been sent to the hospital. The did NOT know which hospital!!!!!! After about another 20 minutes and asking a bunch of different people.they found out which hospital she was sent too. This is horrible. How can staff not know who to ask and or talk to?. read more

This place is the worst place ever. We brought my mom here because of her Alzheimer's. My moms over all health is good. She is strong, walks, eats. Just the other disease that is the only reason she is here. Because she wondered out 2 times. . It was Oct 1st, 2015. By December she was in the hospital, with bad uti. By January 5th 2016, thank god my sister showed up when she did. My moms sugar level was 549, and rushed into the hospital. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks then skilled nursing for 3 weeks. My mom has been removed from this facility, and is now at a bored and care. She no longer feeds herself, barely mumbles, and cannot walk. I cannot express in words, the anger, and the hurt, and the deceit i feel in my heart. I pray every day for my mom just to be like she was 3 months ago. We put her here because we didnt want her to get hurt or lost. Now we have alot of other issues to deal with. they were willing to work with the SS amount that my mom receives per month, and Noah seemed like an honest up front person. This place should be shut down. i will do everything in my power to help that out.. FOR YOUR LOVED ONES, DO NO, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS HERE. THEY WILL DIE........ read more

Unfortunately, my mom wasn't at this facility for very long, so I can only tell you what I observed from her short stay. PROS: The staff was very friendly and helpful. They would routinely check in on my mom and just pop their heads in to say hi so that she didn't feel lonely. The food was actually quite good. The price for my mom's private room was pretty reasonably priced, and we weren't nickeled and dimed for every little thing the staff did for her. She got her room, 3 meals and 2 snacks a day, her laundry was done every week, if she couldn't make it to the dining room on her own, a staff member would wheel her over, or would bring her a tray for her to eat in her room. It was clean and only smelled once while we were there (because someone had just had an accident). CONS: It's old and looks a little ragged from the outside. Also, there were a few sliding glass doors upstairs that went to an outdoor area that didn't work. Also, the upstairs can get really, really stuffy and warm when it's hot outside. This facility was good for my mom and I thank everyone there for their kindness. read more

I have had friends with relatives at this facility and the love, caring and attention from the staff is what made me think of them when it was time for my brother to be in a safe loving enviroment. He is 67 years old has had a stroke and suffers from a heart condition and cannot live alone anymore. Carson is the perfect match for him. close by ,doctors on call 24/7 and most of all safety. He has been in a couple of other places but he was not happy. One of his daughters try to take care of him but it didnt work out. My thanks to all the amazing caregivers at Carson Coomunity my brothers new home. read more
