An absolutely disorganized scam operation. My experience has been reported to the BBB and I will continue to warn current and prospective customers to be aware of the predatory practices and miscommunication executed by Carshield. The nightmare of gaining clarity on the status of my claim, the number of curveballs and attempts to get out of their responsibility of getting a claim paid and the number of calls and lengths of holds with this vendor will leave me scarred for life! My mechanic shared their very similar nightmare of arguments, misinformation and shady paperwork maneuvers to get out from underneath my claim. The cherry on top of my holidays? Thanks to Carshield I totally lost my car to a Mechanic's Lien as they refused to pay my repair claim of almost $7k even after my mechanic repeatedly informed Carshield claims adjusters that their claim denial reason was totally incorrect. Took my vehicle to a dealership for a rear differential input seal leak on 10-Nov, a ASE service facility, as a requirement for CarShield claims. The dealership contacted CarShield to approve/authorize claim on the same day. Claim not authorized by CarShield, yet. On 14-Nov, CarShield sent an 'inspector' to CarShield to 'inspect' the vehicle. Claim not authorized by CarShield, yet. On 16-Nov, CarShield requested pictures from the dealership after the supposed inspection by the CarShield 'inspector'. Claim not authorized by CarShield, yet. On 20-Nov, the dealerships sent the requested pics to CarShield. Still no forward progress made by CarShield. Claim not authorized by CarShield, yet. CarShield is conducting a witch-hunt to not perform the repair work. All services are up-to date and were provided to CarShield. They continue to drag their feet with runaround conversations when requests for claim status/progress are requested over and over again. They prevent you from getting a reimbursable/authorized rental until they authorize the repair facility to perform the repair. I DO NOT RECOMMEND CARSHIELD!!! USE ENDURANCE AS AN ALTERNATIVE CAR WARRANTY PROVIDER. They do not delay claim requests authorizations. read more

I wish Yelp gave a option for 0 stars. I worked with a company that actually handled the repairs for CarShield a shadow company called American Auto Shield. So people know I'm not a bitter ex-employee. What I'm writing is totally true. Our job was to find reasons Not repair cars. We would look for the most minimal reason to deny a claim and it would be legal if you had drove the car while needing the repair, if you had another unauthorized person look over the car etc. In the case we do decide to do the repairs good luck finding a mechanic who would accept the warranty. Many mechanics refuse to accept them because they get under paid, payments are delayed or missing. At the time I left we couldn't find a mechanic in deep southeast states. You're also going to be given pure hell about car rentals what car company rents for $25.00 per day? Let's not talk about the delays in repairs. Just unfortunate how claims adjusters doesn't return calls or emails, we weren't allowed to transfer directly to them. As for the pay it was great but you have to be willing to hear about complaints all day. It got tiresome so I left. read more

So they sent us a letter about an extended warranty, so I called them up asking for a price on a diamond plan which is like the bumper to bumper warranty for a new car. The price they gave me was too high even more expensive than the dealer and 1 less year and their deductible is 200 dollars which is the lowest you can get. They quoted me 3,393 for 7 total years from the first day of the vehicle being in service to 125k total miles. Where the toyota platinum is for 8 yrs and 125k miles with a 100 deductible for 193 dollars less. I also looked up the reviews and they are not too good. You are better off getting the extended warranty from the manufacturer. read more

Well, I took the policy out knowing I was keeping my car which only has about 55k miles on it for another year or two. Right out of the gate not good. My multi point inspection saw the sway bar and ball joints needing repair. NOPE gotta have an inspector for the claim. Okay. Inspector came out and okay only one of the two. So now moving forward driving down the road I will always be aware of the "wheels coming off" metaphorically, at some point. I pay enough monthly for this crap policy and am not happy with the way I have been treated by this company. Before buying, insist they send the policy documents for your review (you will likely never get them). If they do send them, please take note of all the exclusions and, even for items not specifically excluded, look at the language that is all in their favor and gives them wiggle room to deny almost any claim. If that isn't enough to convince you, ask the sales representative to send you proof of their reserve funds to pay claims. Your normal insurance company is required by state law to maintain reserves to pay claims - it's a percentage of the policy money taken in. CarShield either isn't held to the same standards or they ignore them (thus why they can't do business in California). They will never give you an answer or any proof of money set aside. This is how these aftermarket companies fail - they eventually have to pay some claims to avoid lawsuits and are soon in bankruptcy court because they have insufficient funds. Never buy an extended warranty from anyone but the original manufacturer of your vehicle and even then, read a copy very closely before purchasing. As to misleading companies like CarShield - don't be fooled by slick spokes people and celebrities hawking the product - they do it for the money! And don't be fooled by positive reviews posted by company employees or paid reviewers (there are now 1,000's of people who write phony positive reviews for a couple bucks each). read more

I began my policy with Car Shield a couple days after purchasing a 2014 VW Jetta. It had low mileage (approximately 60k miles) and I paid for the most expensive/comprehensive package offered ($168 per month/$100 deductible). I was told there was a 20 day and 500 mile wait. After the waiting period, I scheduled a visit to my local VW dealer to have the car looked over. As it turns out the airbag light was on on the vehicle dashboard. And the key was kind of difficult to turn when starting the car. I dropped the car off on Monday 12/13/21, 10am. I was told to leave it and they'd look it over. I received a call the next day saying the car had an issue with the steering column (which is why the key was hard to turn) and the sensor on my driver's side airbag would not work properly. Basically, my driver's side airbag was NOT operational. Car Shield told me that they would not cover the airbag issue as it was not listed in the contract. But they'd cover the steering column. I was then told I would need to send in proof of ownership of the car before any repairs would be covered. I had to leave an appointment to go home to email my car tittle in order to not delay the repair. Car Shield could've easily asked for my title prior to this time so as to not delay repairs. After sending the title, I was approved for the one repair. I was told I'd have to pay for the other repair (the driver's side airbag issue) on my own. I then was told by VW that they'd have to order the part to fix the steering column and that the car wouldn't be ready until at least Thursday afternoon. I then called Car Shield to inquire into getting a rental car (which is included in my "premium" package). I was told that since the repair time was less than 4 hours, Car Shield would NOT cover a rental. I am pissed! I will be without a vehicle for FOUR days but due to the ridiculous limits placed on my PREMIUM package, and the fact that the repairs take less than 4 hours, I'd get NO rental! Never mind the wait time to get parts is NOT included in Car Shield's "time frame." Over the pandemic isolation time, every other commercial was Ice-T saying, "It's ya boy, Ice-T," speaking and advocating FOR Car Shield. What a scam! The small print and their every attempt to NOT pay is so discouraging! I'd highly suggest finding another company, one that won't look for every trick in the book to NOT pay for claims or a rental! Who wouldn't pay for an airbag sensor to be fixed? I even called to say, wouldn't the airbag be a basic part of a car and should be covered? They said, no. I was told that this was not 20 days waiting period, well if you count it, its 21 days. I got a refund but this is how you lose a long time possible customer. I am cancelling my account effective today. After all of the celebrity endorsements and non-union "customers" touting the advantages of Car Shield, I signed up a year ago. Since then, Car Shield has done very little to address my repair costs. They have come up with all kinds of "fine print" not to pay for repair costs involving, cooling, transmission, and engine costs. For example, they covered the radiator but not the support lines and hoses associated, not to mention labor costs. Even though they claim to cover transmission and air conditioning, in fact, they do not cover the lines and hoses, essential for operation, not to mention labor costs. False advertising, "bait and switch" marketing techniques and contract assurances! Furthermore, they insisted on using their outsourced vendor for a radiator which broke down after a year, jeopardizing my safety and health while on the highway. Moreover, the customer service reps at American Auto Shield have shown little, if any, compassion or empathy, unwilling to make any restitution to ensure quality customer assurance and service. I realize the money I have paid for over a year could have gone towards the repair costs I have incurred. For example, for a recent $2,100 bill, Car Shield only covered $500!! I had a bad experience from the beginning with this company. Instead of the $100.00 deductible that I expected to pay, I ended up paying over $300.00 for a repair. The company insisted on a part that was unacceptable, so my mechanic went another route. I was able to get my premium for November refunded and policy cancelled, but the refund only happened after I threatened them with a chargeback. DO NOT use this company unless you're willing to accept possibly sub-standard replacement parts and risk a bad relationship with your mechanic (I've used this shop for 15 years). Now I have my first and only claim and CarShield would not pay for the repairs ($3500) for rear bearings, muffler and exhaust pipe. This is a big expense for me and this is the reason for CarShield warranty. But I guess they got my money I got nothing when I needed them most. I purchased CarShield Vehicle Protection Powertrain W/Labor 200$ Deductible Plan Administered by American Auto Shield waiting period 20 days and 500 miles or 40 days and 250 miles from the contract dated. Monthly Contract price 139.99$ June the 12th 2022 the same day I purchased my car with 197,268 miles. On September 2nd, 2022, I took my car to Auto Complete Care. My power steering pressure hose and standard angle sensor recalibration was not covered. I am out of pocket at $695.15. I call CarShield Vehicle Protection Plan Administered by American Auto Shield to get a tow from Auto Complete Care to the Dealership. The tow truck never arrived after 2 hours of waiting. I drove my car to the Dealership for inspection. On September 6th, 2022, I received a phone call from the Dealership that my engine was knocking. I have made 26 phone calls to CarShield Vehicle Protection Plan Administered by American Auto Shield to get approved for a rental car until my vehicle was repaired, I have made 4 phone calls to CarShield Vehicle Protection Plan Administered by American Auto Shield. On September 23rd, 2022, I was finally approved for a rental car after 22 days of paying out of pocket $2136.03. On September 29th, 2022, CarShield Vehicle Protection Plan Administered by American Auto Shield finally approved the Dealership to put a new engine in my car at an out of pocket of $ 4,737.32. CarShield Vehicle Protection Plan Administered by American Auto Shield has costs me $8128.46 out of pocket this year 2022. It is not worth the effort it is a terrible vehicle protection plan. read more

I suggest you NOT get the Extended Warrantee or Protection coverage from "CAR SHIELD." They avoid paying auto repair bills. My repair bill was $1005.00 and they stated they would only pay $87.25. They would not pay the entire labor costs and they would not pay the entire cost of the parts, as they stated they dealership repair facility has to high of an hourly rate and is charging to much for the repair parts. I asked to cancel, but they would not tell me how much, if anything, I would get back. They said I had to cancel first. Does anyone know how much, if anything, I would get back? After my warranty expired with them on which I only put one claim in that was less than $100 & paid them over $1400 upfront, I needed to renew. Gave me a new price to which I dealt with multiple supervisors & during the negotiation process, still drove my car to work. Once I got a price that was satisfactory to me, they then pulled the "oh now you are over the warranty mileage & wanted to downgrade my coverage. I called over 2 months leaving messages for the supervisors & managers & never got a call back. Then wrote a letter to the CEO, CFO, Head of Sales, Head of Customer Service, & multiple Dept heads & NOT ONE got in touch with me. They do not care at all. These well-trained sales ponies are your best friends--until they get their sale. Then they're out of the picture. Something wrong with your car? Warranty company denying your claim? Too bad for you! CarShield's already far down the road, counting their money, laughing at the sucker they left behind in the dust. I was one of the lucky ones. I found out real fast how much of a scam CarShield is so I didn't have to go on for years thinking my car was protected by one of their fraudulent providers, pouring thousands of dollars into a protection plan that appears real on the surface, but doesn't actually cover a thing. As soon as I tried to make a claim on a policy, the warranty company CarShield sold me on (American Auto Shield) took hours of waiting on hold to get through to. Then, American Auto Shield's representatives fought me every step of the way to cover a malfunctioning radiator, which was clearly covered in my contract. It took over 20 hours of my time on the phone, as well as letters to the company president, to cover a claim that should have been handled in less than 30 minutes. When I called CarShield to report my inability to collect on my claim, their response was, "There's nothing we can do. Talk to the insurance provider." CarShield couldn't have cared less that AAS was attempting to rip me off. They proudly stated that they accept no responsibility for the warranty companies they work with, and they couldn't understand why it would be important for them to do so. Carshield is a nightmare, from the beginning to the end they have not only screwed us once but twice. we are out of so much money, even more then the repairs. Our check engine light came on car was running hot and a few other things was wrong we after the rep referred us to a neighborhood mechanic who has had our car for 3 weeks now on the second week we rented a car thinking it would be covered and we would be reimbursed No not at all because "nothing is covered under the service plan" therfore the rental isn't covered either. Normally for yrs now we have always taken our car to a dealer who give us a rental and repair the car within a week. But assuming that getting a plan like carshield would save us money no not at all they have cost us money and I still have the rental and our car is being worked on 3 weeks later. The very first time we tried using car shield the engine went out last summer, my husband had the car towed to a engine/transmission repair shop who did a exceptional job, carshield denied the claim staring that we should have called them before having it fixed, my husband called when the car was completed. I had to take my car in for check engine light on. I called carsheild ahead to make sure all the steps that needed to be taken. I was told they wanted a diagnostics report done on the car to see what was wrong. When I was dropping my car off I told them this is what needed to be done to make sure the warrantee was covered. They told me that it costed $155 an hour to do this. The next day I got a call from carsheild that I missed but called back in like 1/2 hour later. They told me my part of the bill was going to be $277. I said ok just wanted to get it done. I found out 5 hours later the car had never been started because they never got a call back. I called carshield again to be told that they needed to go over my part of the bill. After I got off the phone with them being upset this was not taken care of earlier. They called the mechanic to put them on hold for 40 min. so he left a message for a call back. The next day I called my mechanic to find out they had to start the whole thing over again because no one there knew what was going on from the day before. At 3 the next day is when I found out that I owed $224 out of $326 and $99 of that was the diagnostics that didn't need done so really they didn't pay for any of the repairs. read more

This company has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau. One of the promises they make on their commercial is that they have your back. THEY LIE! I had a radiator and water pump leak and my claim was denied because there was water in the radiator instead of Anti-Freeze. It seems instead of putting water in the radiator and driving 2 blocks to the repair shop, they expected me to drive to an auto parts store about 15 miles away, buy coolant and then drive to the repair shop as $14 worth of coolant leaks out. Once again their commercials say they have your back. THEY LIE! They DO NOT have your back! When I called for help they just said after the sale they have nothing to with it anymore. This is a terrible company. Last year I never used the service. Paid total $1548 last year. This year when I need the service I was left waiting for a tow for 4hrs. Only covered $137 on a 500 bill. I paid the rest. Was told by customer service to get a rental, and Carshield would cover up to $280. Just received a check in the mail for $40 only. Their explanation was only 1 and a half hours were spent working on my car. But I was without my car for 4 days. No one told me there were any restrictions or conditions for the rental. The money I spent total for my out of pocket expense, I could have gotten my car repaired and back the same day at a muffler shop and had cash left over. I cancelled Carshield after getting that crumby check in the mail. They're a waste of time. It's not worth it. read more
