Well, this just happens to be one of those stations, namely because it seems that more trains shoot past here as express trains as opposed to actually stop, though I should note that a lot of these trains do happen to be V-Line. Anyway, this station has been completely revamp, though possibly also because there happens to be railyards to one side, so they do need to get the passengers across it somehow.

It's manned during the day, the trains actually run underground here so there are stairs and also 2 lifts to get up and down to the platforms so it is bike, pram and disabled friendly. The trains sometimes run on time, when you catch a train most times you get to where you want to go relatively on time. You always get a seat this far from town during off peak times. They have Protective Services Officers at night now and it makes you feel more comfortable with your security and safety. It is within walking distance from my home so I don't have to find a park which seems to be at over capacity. There is 2 cats espresso bar just nearby for that nice cup of coffee for your journey. It is a fairly inexpensive form of travel.

The whole community gets involved and it was nice to see. Went and checked it out and was there for about an hour, had some food to eat (not to overally pricey) and a couple of drinks. A good festival and nice to check out. But runs once a year.

The special and cool aspect about this train is that you can choose to sit along the side with your legs dangling out. This way, you have an even better view of the stunning Dandenong mountain Ranges, full of ash trees and lush green foliage. We went from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park, where there was a charming lake, little museum, cafe, and gift shop. I'm glad I had a chance to experience this!

The great thing about this railway is that it is quite accessible, being located right next to the Belgrave railway station. Mind you, it is a steam train, and a rather small one as well, but the route that it takes is certainly quite impressive. However, I have noticed that it is pretty expensive, so it certainly isn't something for a budget traveller. However, it you have the cash, it is definitely a fun day out for the kids.

Mind you, while the station doesn't look all that flash, being one of those more practical ones, the thing that I do like about it is all of the greenery that surrounds it. It takes about 45 minutes each way and costs about $40 return but this scenic route gave us a great view of the CBD skyline from afar and enough of an escape from the city to be more than worthwhile. WIlliamstown is quaint and with plenty of alfresco dining it's a good place to venture for a lazy meal in the sunshine. The lady taking our booking over the phone had a bit of trouble adapting to us wanting to be picked up at Southbank and not in the City which led to the captain cruising straight past us so keep the number handy to avoid being stranded. A quick phone call and he turned to starboard faster than you can say shiver me timbers. In short, a great afternoon cruise with friendly crew and it was more than worthwhile.

It ranks up there as one of my all-time favourite outings with my boyfriend in Melbs. What's so great about it? It's just an overpriced ferry, right? Wrong, my friends, wrong. The ferry is so special because it shows you a completely and utterly different view of the city than you'd normally get. Sure, you may have been to Ponyfish Island a zillion times; you might even has ponyed up (see what I did there?) and gone paddle-boarding or canoeing on the Yarra. But there's nothing quite like gliding by the whole of Southbank in your very own boat. (Well, one with other passengers on it, mind.) Past the glorious views of Eureka Tower and the Immigration Museum, past Scienceworks, towards Williamstown... You'll zoom by people cycling along the river, past expensive condos and stacked containers alike, heading for the open sea (or close enough), dodging tugboats and watching enormous ships pulling in to dock. The Yarra's maritime life is alive and well, and you'll get to see all of it. Alighting in Williamstown, you couldn't be in a more convenient place to enjoy a gelato and a wander in the sunshine (time it for their market, or hope the Sea Shepherd boats are docked so you can take a gander). Back on the train to the CBD, or back on the ferry home? I know what I'd choose.
