Here's what happened…read more Didn't finish the job (had to hire another tree service to finish) Didn't make appointments (several of them) Changed his price per hour after the estimate Charged me for more hours than he actually did work for Asked for advanced pay Refused to pay my money back for work not completed I received a recommendation for Mr. Ellison, owner and operator of The Artisan Arborist for stump grinding and to have a dead tree cut down. I will try to sum it up. He asked me to pay in advance $550 ($350 for the stump and $200 for the tree). I paid him in cash. He didn't show up to his scheduled appointments several times over the corse of a month even after being paid and when he did come he only ground the stump. He then asked me for more money. I told him I already paid you the $550 he said, "no you paid me $350 for the stump and it was a big stump the $200 was for the tree." I replied "yes, but you didn't cut the tree down." He said, "but I'm going to come back in a few day and cut the tree." At this point he said he had worked for 8 hours and that he wanted another 700 dollars. I agreed to giving him another $400, because honestly, I felt intimidated and didn't feel like I had any choice. He then texted me the next day and asked me to pay him another $50 in labor and $35 for the maintenance on the machine he rented upon removal of the tree. After paying him $950 and still didn't have the job done I checked my security cameras and found out that he was only here for 6 hours not 8 and that he was on the phone for the first 2 hours and then left abruptly on day one in the middle of the project; so he only worked for about 4 hours thats $237.5 per hour!!! He never returned to cut the tree down. I ended up getting someone else to cut it down after a few more weeks of waiting and two more missed appointments on his end. He ghosted me on the $200 and steeply over-charged me on the stump. Way to take advantage. I would never recommend him.

I cannot recommend this company based on the really terrible customer service I received. They came out, gave me an estimate, and I was ready to move forward with the project, but for some reason, they had a really tough time providing these basic details. I was very patient and understanding, even when I emphasized that we needed the stairs to access our crawlspace for additional house work (mold remediation). Unfortunately, I was met with repeated promises to follow up that never happened, spanning over a week. I get that businesses get busy, but communication and follow-through are a pretty basic part of customer service. I gave them multiple opportunities to simply send over the information I needed. He said his email wasn't working, so I asked if he could just send the info over via text. He said he would and that he just needed to finish something up and then nothing. Based on my experience, I would not recommend them. If they are willing to be this unreliable before a project even begins, I can only imagine how difficult it could be once hired. Large landscaping projects require a certain level of trust and reliability and unfortunately, my experience gave me neither.

Our HOA hired this company and they do a good job on front lawns, but sometimes ignore the back…read morelawn. They don't weed or apply weed pre emergent and when they did weed (which was only once in 5 months) they pulled the portion above ground leaving the roots. I don't like the way they've pruned the shrubs in our community because they look too formal and unnatural since they obviously use an electric trimmer and round them into balls or into boxy shrubs. I wish our HOA would find someone more worth the money.

In dealing with contractors for decades in building…read morea new house and major renovations/modernization of a 60's house, Joshua and his team ranks absolutely top! Or in my father's language "He shows himself a workman well approved!" (2 Tim 2:15). Let me enumerate some observations: * He asked knowledgably probing questions to insure that his crew does "What you want" and not "What you said" * His quote broke down the work into good layers. This caused us to realize that some of our asks were expensive but a sufficient economical alternative could be done * He owns and transport his own equipment. Many contractors rent out and that both increases bids and often left work unpolished because the equipment was due for pickup by the renter. * Many minor "tunings" were done during the work. Items not asked for -- but things he saw that would make things better for us -- at NO ADDITIONAL Costs. Example, we ask for new gravel UP TO our parking area (which was in good shape) -- he bought in two additional loads of gravel and recovered the parking area. The wife was absolutely delighted. * At the end of every day there was an email about the progress and what was planned next. During work day, he would respond within an hour when we sent an email. * He was glad to quote on minor additions (for example, removing a range fence and rebuilding it 20' further from the road). Work started promptly. * He hauled away a pile of old appliances at no cost. Our request was to clear 50' of trees and vegetation around our building for better protection against wild fire. Although we have Hardy (concrete) Sidings and metal roof we want that extra margin [if only for insurance purposes], This house was custom built for the wife's health issue. We then ask him to "fix 600' of access road that had become a bumpy ride as it aged over 16 years, similarly removing vegetation on both sides for 20'. The wife was ecstatic with all of the work done. Done promptly and at the quoted price. For a couple in their seventies -- we were double pleased about hiring Done Well and intend to make him our first call for future work.
