They have a fancy building but don't have the staff to back it up. (in fairness, I am sure there are some good people there but I have never seen them in the ER) Worse, they are grossly overcharging patients. I definitely recommend everyone ask for all charges up front and make sure they are reasonable. I had them charge me $8000 for a test that should have cost $1500 if you look at average costs for the tests nationally. I was never told anything about this insane charge up front and would have went to a local radiology place if I was. When asked if they would negotiate it to something reasonable, I was told they won't negotiate their bills. They are what they are. I saw two doctors there. One was very good. Another one, I spent a year seeing and she came up with two diagnosis which I actually suggested to her and asked her to test for. She came up with nothing on her own but never refrained from charging me. Sad that such a beautiful hospital is so poorly run!

Capital Health Medical Center is one of those places no one ever hopes to review. A hospital visit…read moreis never on anyone's list of pleasant experiences, and an emergency room visit even less so. The very act of being there means something has gone wrong. Still, when my wife experienced a medical event serious enough to require admittance, I found myself deeply grateful for the people working behind those walls. From the moment she arrived, her symptoms were taken seriously. She was pulled into triage almost immediately, and within minutes, she was in an emergency room bed with a team already in motion. The attending physician was remarkable, the kind of person who makes you believe that medicine is still both science and calling. Every nurse, technician, and aide who crossed our path treated her with care and patience, and treated me with empathy that felt entirely genuine. Even beyond the clinical side of things, there was an atmosphere of kindness. The security guards greeted people with a calm professionalism that felt reassuring rather than imposing. The men and women working in the cafeteria were unfailingly warm, small moments of humanity in the middle of long hours of worry. When my wife was moved to a room in the IU, it was clear that the amenities were not the hospital's strong suit. It was clean, functional, but bare. No television, no real distractions, just the steady hum of machines and the odd rhythm of hospital life. Still, when you are dealing with matters of health and survival, the absence of cable television does not feel like much of a tragedy. I have read the low ratings, and I understand where they might come from, but our experience was very different. Four stars for a hospital that seems to have its priorities in order, staffed by people who still remember that patients are human beings first and foremost.

We were very disappointed in the care and bedside manner of these so-called professionals. Were they given a class in human emotions? Don't you read a person and their visitors when walking into someone's room? Would you speak to your mother, wife or daughter the way you spoke to my mother? I'd rather take her to an animal hospital where there is compassion and kindness not only to the animal, but to their owner too! Dr E. Patel needs a course in humanity and compassion, STAT!!!

"Academic Research Hospital" Failed Basic Emergency Care - Destroyed Patient Hope…read more My 82-year-old mother was admitted to Robert Wood Johnson New Brunswick with a failed laminectomy, spinal stenosis, and neurogenic claudication causing extreme burning pain in her legs. We chose this hospital specifically because it advertises itself as an academic research hospital specializing in spine, neurology, and geriatrics. What happened instead: 48-Hour ER Wait - No imaging done despite orders. Developed urinary retention requiring catheterization. Still no MRI of spine after 60+ hours. Hope Destroyed - An unknown physician (not orthopedics, not neurosurgery) physically grabbed my mother's feet to ensure eye contact, looked directly at her, and stated: "You will never walk out of here better than when you walked in. We will not fix you." This was said to an 82-year-old woman who endured 100 days of hospitalization and 6 weeks of rehab, who came here with hope for answers. No MRI had been performed. No neurosurgeon had evaluated her. Hypertensive Crisis Ignored - Later that day, my mother became acutely confused (oriented x0, not x4 as documented). Her blood pressure escalated from 180s to 201/97 systolic - a life-threatening emergency - despite multiple doses of oral blood pressure medications. She has heart failure, posterior stroke history, and just became dialysis-independent 2 weeks prior. Staff dismissed her acute confusion as "sundowning" despite: Thinking she was in her apartment (actually in hospital) Thinking she'd been there "months" (actually 2 days) Unable to identify the nursing station Confusing meals And what did the doctor say after the nurse called? Monitor. Thankfully a rapid response team after I said I would wheel her down to the ER responded. I had to dictate the treatment plan. When asked "what do you want us to do?", I - a 20-year paramedic, NOT the physician - had to suggest: CT scan, MRI, IV labetalol, labs, 12-lead EKG. This became their plan. This is standard emergency protocol for hypertensive crisis with altered mental status. They should have known this without family input. Equipment Reliability Concerns - Manual blood pressure check showed 160 systolic when automated cuff showed 201 systolic - a 40+ point discrepancy. If true, this means patients throughout the hospital are being treated based on unreliable automated readings, potentially causing dangerous hypotensive episodes when medications are given based on falsely elevated readings. Current Status - 60+ hours admitted. Still no spinal MRI. New urinary retention. No bowel movement. Unknown if she can walk. Possible cauda equina syndrome (a neurosurgical emergency) completely ignored. Outcome - We came seeking expertise from a "specialty center." Instead, my mother received delayed imaging, mismanaged hypertensive emergency, dismissive care, and psychological devastation from a physician who destroyed her hope before even ordering appropriate diagnostics taking away the most important thing a patient can have...hope. I will be pursuing AMA discharge to transfer to a facility that provides actual emergency care. After someone tells my mother "we will not fix you" - why would we stay?

If you have concerns or scared for your rights being taken away and express that clearly and coherently, they will flat right dismiss you in your notes, just not in your face.. Worse is if you want to request a change to reflect any wrong information, they will lead you to department after department without any real progress. Effectively putting you into a circle. If you have positive feelings about the hospital then more power to you. Its great that you got good quality care from the doctor that treated you. This is just my experience.
