Due to my vast experience in quality "massagery" and dealing with chronic neck pains for a couple years now, I can really tell when a place knows their stuff or not. This place absolutely knows it's stuff when it comes to how the body works, where everything is, and how to get things back to where they need to be. However, they are not absolute professionals on the art of pure relaxation. Finding the place was a little funky in being guided by Apple Maps but the best way I could describe how to locate would be to pretend you are going to Island Brewery. When you are walking back behind on the left look for a run down building with a big 550. Once you are inside there go up the blue stairs and say a soft "Hello?" They will come out and greet you then! I had visited this center on recommendation from a family member to release some shoulder stress and relax my neck. I had a Groupon deal which they were totally compliant with and treated me as any other paying customer. The gal who massaged me was a human anatomy whiz and literally talked through every single thing she did. I was very amazed at all her knowledge but definitely a little less relaxed that I would've liked to be with all in the information overload and the loud beeping truck outside the window for over half the massage. I totally understand the noise outside had nothing to do with the masseuse herself, and she was absolutely fabulous at her job, don't get me wrong, I'd just like it to be a little more relaxing all together next time around. I was very thankful, though, for the follow up information she texted me about products I could get for self-help at home. The experience overall was A-Okay and I would recommend to anyone looking to learn more about their body pains and how to better fix them themselves, but maybe not those looking to go and relax for an hour of de-stressing. In the long run, the massage really helped me out and I'm very thankful for the unique patterns the masseuse showed me. read more

Erin is Wonderful! I was recently in a car accident which resulted in moderate/severe whiplash. Erin was able to reduce a significant amount of pain, loosen up muscles in my back & neck, explained in detail exactly what areas she was working on, and most of all, provided the most relaxing, therapeutic session. The locally-sourced oils she used were amazing, her office was very clean and tranquil (you could easily take a nap here), and her voice was calm and gentle. Earlier this evening I had the most amazing experience at Carpinteria Wellness Center with Brian who performed craniosacral therapy on me. It was my first time and I can't wait for more. I have never been so relaxed, balanced and grounded in my whole life. Seriously. Literally felt a blissful surrender and healing unlike any treatment I've ever had, and I've had a lot. He has healing hands and I highly recommend this treatment, in addition to his chiropractic care. Separately but worth noting, Erin gives mindful, careful, intentional massage that is sure to leave you feeling relaxed and revitalized. The woman was very sweet and the massage was ok. My boyfriend enjoyed the pressure the male therapist applied, but also noticed the shortness. However, I have OCD and the thought of having an open lotion jar (instead of the more commonly used pump bottle) being used is a bit gross in my opinion. The jar would sit on the counter and appointment after appointment the massage therapists would dip their hands in the jar repeatedly leaving behind germs and skin cells. In my opinion that is fairly unsanitary. Furthermore, the appointment did not start on time because the clients before us were having a casual conversation with the therapists. We arrived 5 minutes early but with the wait, the unnecessarily long interview questionnaire (which in my experience is typically done during the massage), and the time they gave us to get undressed equated to a little over 20 minutes, which they proceeded to take out of the 60 minute couples massage we paid for. When I asked the gentleman if the 60 minute massage started when we get on the table, he said that we had already been there for an hour and five minutes. I did not realize I was paying for time to be in a room + a 40 minute massage and not paying for a 60 minute couples massage as advertised on Groupon. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. My husband and I found them on a Groupon. Both he and I have really tight backs and shoulders. My traps are so bad that I often have 2 hour massages that only focus on upper body and those traps still won't let go. After an hour long massage focusing on my chest and arm, they were like puddy. I simply couldn't believe it. My massage therapist told me what I could be doing to help myself every day and keep them from freezing up like they are in the normal state. My husband has had back surgery in May and was struggling that day with the sitting in they car. After his massage he felt so much better and the swelling was down in his back! From the second we walked in, we already felt more relaxed. We went for a couple's massage and it was ethereal. We arrived 15 mins earlier and filled out the forms. They then took us into our room to brief us and ask for our main concerns & areas we wanted them to focus on. The massage was sooo relaxing, we added the hot pads (for $10 extra) and that made it even better. Both our masseuses were really great, periodically checking in but not to the point where you feel annoyed. I'm shocked this place has been given such great reviews. I am beyond disappointed with my experience here. I purchased a Groupon for a couples massage here. I called and booked my appointment with the receptionist. She confirmed that we would have our massage at 1pm on a certain date. Since We live a few hours away My husband booked a hotel near here so we could enjoy carpenteria after our massage. I was so excited to relax and get away for a night. Day of the massage we are all packed and heading to the Wellness Center. We arrive at the "wellness center" and realize it is a dump. I mean, it's literally a hole in the wall in some back office. We try to open the front door to the center but it's locked! I knocked a few times and waited. Nothing. I then went to speak with a woman in an office nearby to see if she knew where they were. She said she hadn't seen anyone at the wellness center ALL DAY. I called the center. No answer. I waited in the hallway for 20 minutes passed our appointment time but no one came. So I spent money on a massage AND a hotel for nothing. Now I have tried calling them multiple times and have not had my calls returned or answered WHATSOEVER. What kind of business is this? I would like a refund but can't even seem to get that.. What a horrible business. read more

Best massage we've ever had! My husband and I purchased a Groupon to try them out, and we are 100% satisfied! The communication is awesome, and our therapists were very professional. We are now regular clients and can't wait for our next visit. The building looks like a renovated Apt building, but it is really nice inside. I have had neck and shoulder pain for years. Recently, it had gotten so bad that I couldn't turn my head fully to the right and my pain level was too high to tolerate anymore. My back was literally frozen when I went to see Brian. It is now four weeks later and I am virtually pain free. I have had back pain all of my life and have learned the importance of soft tissue massage (to calm inflamed tissue) combined with realignment techniques. Brian is skilled in both! We went for the couples massage on a Groupon. The office is in a weird area, and looks like an old apartment complex, so the first impression was a little shady. Inside though was nice, and inviting. The massage room was set up how you'd expect. It was peaceful with calming music playing. It was a relaxing experience. My husband had the best massage he's ever had by Desiree, though mine by Brian was rather disappointing. If I would've known he was a chiropractor, and my massage would consist of mostly squishing and stretches I would've forgone the massage altogether. I told him I wanted medium to firm pressure, but mostly it was soft, and like he was afraid to touch me. I also told him that my main areas of pain are my neck, shoulders, and a little in my low back, but these areas were barely worked on. He did something to my right shoulder blade that caused me to be in more pain then when he first started working on me. When we left my husband felt amazing, and his neck felt normal for the first time in years, but I was more sore and in more pain then when we first arrived. My husband wants to go back, he loves Desiree, but I have no interest, unless I had her as my therapist too. The whole point was for my husband to leave there feeling amazing, because he's been through a lot of surgeries and health issues, but it would've been nice if we both left there feeling that way. read more

Really displeased with the appointment booking process here. I ordered a couples massage via Groupon (which was at a fantastic price). When I called, there was over a month wait to see a therapist for the group session on a weekend. We went ahead and booked, and a week prior, I called back to re-confirm the appointment date and time and was told I still had an appointment. Two days before the appointment, I received a phone call (they left a message) saying that there were not enough therapists scheduled to work that day, and that they would have to move the appointment. The dates they offered did not include weekends - which were booked out over a month. To make things worse, the day before the scheduled appointment, I received an e-mail confirmation notice for the appointment. When I reached the desk via phone, they shrugged it off and told me "it's an automated message system. We give guests 24 hours to cancel prior to an appointment, and sometimes we have to do the same thing." So beware, if you book an appointment here, they may have to cancel on you 24 hours prior. read more
