I had flooring installed through my contractor (a good guy) by Carpet Caravan. You know, the "Home Enchantment Store". Carpet Caravan and their owner, Frank are about as enchanting as a root canal. After the installation, I had multiple boards separating. My contractor and I placed multiple calls and texts and finally got enchanting Frank to come out a take a look. When asked why it took him so long to reply. enchanting Frank said he had a bad back, the dog ate his homework and, and. Enchanting Frank then said he would send a guy out "next week". It's been four weeks, multiple calls and texts to Enchanting Frank with bubkas return calls So, if you are considering Carpet Caravan, don't expect top notched installation or customer service. First off, if you decide go with this company, don't pay them the second installment until all work is done to your satisfaction. I made that mistake then they wanted to charge me to come finish what they had told me they were going to do with the job. Over $12k for 2 bedrooms and a small office for oak flooring. Watch them at every step. I had spaces that a credit card fit into that the installer was just going to put putty in (the owner's kid tells me that's normal). Our walls are beat to hell, we have spilled finish, bubbled finish and multiple places where he stained over globs of putty on the floor. See pics!! Then his van leaked oil on the pavers in the driveway in a few spots. Another local company was dragging their feet and we needed to get hardwood installed in 2 bedrooms and a small office before moving in. My initial call or two was to a super nice salesman at Carpet Caravan but then the owner's kid stepped in. Total attitude and flips back and forth between "I'm green so forgive me" and "that's the way we've always done it" depending which works best for him at the moment. I was willing to look past some of the shoddy work since they rushed to get it done for us but the shoddy work, the oil stains in the driveway from the installers van, the owner's kid's attitude and the massive price tag just got to be too much. Add to it that we have 3 full boxes of flooring leftover that we paid for and now have to store. That's a 10% overage on top of the industry standard 5% that allows for unusable pieces. This is after fact so just wasted money. 10% of our total bill is over $1200 and this guy wants to nickel and dime me for 9 feet of quarter-round??? The pics speak for themselves. Torn up walls, stained over putty, oil stained driveway, damaged baseboards, leftover boxes of flooring. The owner and son showed up to take a look at the floors. He said they look great and that he's happy with the work so I'd say these pics must be a great representation of their work. read more

I have to say that I had the best service ever for the floors in my home. I lived in other places and had carpet installed by Carpet Caravan and they always did an amazing job. I went to lots of box stores looking for flooring for my new house and then of course to see Joe. As always he told me about floors that would withstand my use and my dogs on the floors. I was always worried about my dogs nails scratching up all the floors. Joe showed me a beautiful product that was also easy to install. Well now almost a month since they were installed and wow!! Carpet Caravan installed carpet for us and we've been very happy with it. They also installed flooring in an office area with unresolved issues. The edge of one of the planks started to peal up. Then it pealed a little more and the corner pealed off also. The board is still strong, but the surface laminate has pealed and is very obvious. The salesman came out and admitted it didn't look like it was caused by a computer chair wheel -- he inspected the wheels for smoothness. He said it was obvious to him that the edge of the one board had a flaw in it, and he would make arrangements for someone to come fix it (still in warranty, whatever that means). We kept emailing, "When?" His reply shared a variety of excuses. Then the replies stopped coming back. Our guess is the salesman knew what he was saying about the flooring and honestly wanted to help, but the owner blocked him. Recommendation: When the flooring was installed (over concrete floor so there's no give or flexing involved), he said we didn't need a vinyl floor mat under our chair because the installed flooring was strong (wasn't a cheap flooring choice)! BUT, maybe it wasn't that strong. Maybe we should have put down a vinyl mat even though he said it wouldn't be needed, which we now have... But, the damage is still there because of a defective plank and it's very obvious. read more

This is the 2nd job I had Carpet Caravan do for me. The first one was done well hence my returning to complete another room. This one was a disaster. I wanted the old floor removed but the installers decided to install over the floor. Jerry Flores stated that it would save me money. They installed the floor and left. I did not even get to inspect their work. In fact since they laid the floor over the existing linoleum none of the doors would now fit so now I have to hire someone to cut the doors to length. Note: read the fine print. They are not responsible for the doors not fitting .... nice of you to bring that to my attention. Now I have a noticeable 3/4 inch lip between rooms instead of a flush seam that would have been far better. Oh they "saved" me $260. After I had a opening to my garage for 4 days and the amount I had to pay to fix it I probably have a $100 saving. Terrible customer support. I was referred to Carpet Caravan very highly by my brother who had used them previously for 2 carpet jobs; and he had had a positive experience with them. My initial impressions were also very favorable; Frankie was very helpful when I was selecting carpet & Luxury vinyl tile remotely; and he was pleasant to deal with on the phone, but his communication style was a little rough around the edges and short at times. However he seemed to be on top of the job; alerted me to possibly needing to install a new subfloor in the bathrooms, and I dismissed the small red flags I sensed as maybe just a personality & style difference. In hindsight, I should have paid attention to the small red flags. We did a new carpet install for our entire 2bd 2ba home; new luxury vinyl tile in both bathrooms and the kitchen. Our subfloor was badly damaged in the living & dining room, so I had it completely replaced by a carpenter. Frankie had assured me he would address any issues with the subfloor in the bathrooms when they installed the tile; there may be an additional charge for a new 1/4" plywood subfloor, but he'd know better once they started the install. The carpet was fine. Not great, but fine. Edges are not secured well...there are many areas that are easily pulled up. Seams initially looked ok; but its been just over 2 months, and the seam lines are already showing signs of pulling up. Corners of the carpet are not secured very well. Paddding was placed everywhere, but not in the walk in closets and is very noticeable. The vinyly tile installation was very poor. Seams & corners did not align. Tiles were installed over nails in the previous floor that were not removed. Tiles were curling and buckling, and were easily lifted up at the corners. When I met with Frankie and his installer, they were defensive and argumentitive; and I felt somewhat intimidated. Two other contractors that were present expressed their concern to me about they were handling the situation. It finally surfaced the incorrect tile had been ordered for the kitchen (it should have been click-together, not glue down). Frankie first blamed the 'girl in the office' for not double checking that with him; then he blamed me saying 'you should have told me what kind to order'. He was aware that I had no previous experience ordering flooring of any sort; and that I had no idea there were different types that could be ordered...I selected the tile, pattern & color and thought that was all there was to do. I was given several different excuses about why the tile install was so bad. 1. The house built in 1960 is uneven. 2. It was cold. 3. I picked the wrong kind of tile...they just ordered what I told them. 4. The weather made the tiles move. 5. The installer used the wrong type of trowel, too much adhesive and walked on them too soon. 6. I should have used grout even though the manufacturer says it can be installed with or without. They finally said all the tile needed to be replaced; and said they would make the job right. They replaced the kitchen tile with the correct type (click together); and it looks very good now. They removed the bathroom tile; and the 1/4" subfloor they put in. I hired another carpenter to remove the old vinyl and discovered THE NEW TILE & SUBFLOOR HAD BEEN INSTALLED OVER 3 EXISTING LAYERS OF SHEET VINYL, AND THE ORIGINAL PARTICLE BOARD SUBFLOOR OF THE HOUSE. THERE WAS SIGNFICANT WATER DAMAGE TO THE SUBFLOOR THAT WAS REVEALED WHEN I HIRED ANOTHER CARPENTER TO REMOVE THE EXISTING VINYL & INSTALL A NEW SUBFLOOR. NO MOISTURE TEST HAD BEEN DONE; AND NO ATTEMPT TO LOOK AT THE STRUCTURAL STABILITY OF THE FLOOR HAD BEEN MADE. THEY COVERED UP EVERYTHING WITH AND JUST PUT DOWN THE NEW FLOOR WITHOUT EVEN CHECKING. I was still willing to have them install the new tiles after I had the entire subfloor removed & replaced. They insisted I be present for the install, which was ok. I flew out to Monterey from Chicago to be there when they said it would be ready; only to have them tell me the tile was not going to be recieved for another 2 weeks. I suggested several different solutions; and was told I could either wait the 2 weeks, or come into their showroom and pick something they had in stock such as stock carpet or sheet vinyl. They finally agreed to cancel the contract for the bathroom portion of the job. I paid for the carpet; and for the kitchen tile. The owner requested that I pay by check instead of credit card for the kitchen portion (I'd already paid the carpet using a credit card.) This was an extremely unprofessional, and unpleasant experience; and at times I was keenly aware of how angry Frankie was at me for questioning the work that had been done. The installer told me that Frankie wanted to close out the ticket, and it would be a good idea if I went ahead and paid for all the work that was done. I am glad to be no longer doing business with Carpet Caravan. read more

Great product. We selected the luxury vinyl planks and a carpet for the stairway. Frankie was easy to work with in the showroom. His communications with the actual labor crew though, were poor at best. Lot of confusion created that could easily have been avoided. Very mediocre workmanship. Not impressed. They installed thresholds and quarter round over damaged baseboard, and over debris. They sawed metal on my brand new carpet. The mindset was just get the stuff in. There seemed to be no pride in their work. They actually installed some of my old threshold material in 2 rooms. I am still finding things...x's drawn on the floor in ink. Nails that are sticking out. I paid over 10K for this work. I am pretty sure I did not receive all the product I paid for. When they came back to look at the 2 thresholds with the wrong material they just "happened" to have the matching transition pieces on their van...ya right. With my final payment I sent a note inquiring about the materials and well as a few additional punch items. I sent this to Frankie's attention. No response to date (the work took place in April). Run away fast or plan on babysitting each and everything they do! read more

We bought Shaw carpet and what a poor product. The sample was quite different than the actual carpet laid in our home--in terms of color and texture. We spent a great deal of time making the decision and we are so disappointed. We made the mistake of painting the walls before the installation with a color that matched the sample we chose and now we have to repaint cuz the paint and carpet dont match well. It would have been nice if the salesman would have told us how much the carpet delivered can vary from the sample. We had not experienced this in previous carpet purchases. The salesmen were great before we bought the carpet, but when I explained the significant variation between the sample and actual carpet, they had little interest in helping us. To be honest, I'm not even sure Shaw sent the correct carpet even though Caravan had the right color on their invoice. But if they did, and Shaw products vary that much, I'd advise to avoid carpet from the Shaw company and any other brand from the same manufacturer. read more

Carpet Caravan is terrible! They broke some of our appliances, put linoleum in one of the wrong rooms, and installed a toilet part wrong so that it leaked and caused major water damage. They broke part of the linoleum that they had installed and only fixed it after we pointed it out. read more

I called this place at the recommendation of a business friend that had a great experience with this company. I came to my office on a Monday morning unlocked my door and water came rushing out of the building. The whole place was flooded due to a broken old pipe. All the carpets were soaked. What a panic, so I called my business friend who said to call Carpet Caravan. I was very impressed right from the get go they were courteous and helpful on the phone and said they would come out right away to asses the damage. Within minutes Frank and his team were at my office. We got the water shut off and they pulled back the carpets to try to save as much as possible and to start drying things out with their huge fans. Literally within 24 hours they had the whole mess cleaned up, dried up and then made the necessary carpet repairs and installations. We were open for business the next day. I am so thankful for their professionalism, great service, rapid response and fair prices. Since that time we had all the carpet in our home replaced too and had another perfect experience.
