Everything I've had there has been excellent, and it's my go-to for when visitors say they want authentic Belgian food. Their beer selection is of course great, but more surprisingly, they have a good wine list with a lot of half bottles on offer. Service is good and reasonably fast. And they are open every day! Even Sunday! Even Monday! I recommend making a reservation if you're going at peak dinner hour with more than two people. Top notch!

The interior is dark and fairly cozy which hides the fact they have a ton of seating, and they also have an outdoor patio. You can make reservations on their website, which may help since they filled up very quickly once dinner hours started. They have a special where you can get a 25% discount on food if you come after 6pm and leave before 8:20pm - you can specifically mark your reservation for the early bird discount. Staff is polite and prompt. They have english versions of all their menus. They have 2 pages of moule frites options, with english descriptions of what is in each. The mussels were absolutely delicious - they are smaller than what I've had before, and had a very buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture. They're served each in their own pot which keeps the mussels piping hot as you eat them. The sauces they come with are plentiful and delicious, not too salty. The fries on the side are meaty and come with two different sauces. An absolute must visit in Brussels.

We had seen Les Petits Oignons referred to in the Michelin guide and the menu looked interesting,…read moreso made a reservation for a Sunday lunch. We were seated right away and brought menus and the recommendations. The restaurant was busy with locals. We were spoken to (of course) in French and while I muddled through, they were kind enough to speak English with us. My guy ordered a glass of white Burgundy and I ordered a Kir cassis for aperitifs. The Kir cassis was way too warm, but the Burgundy was delicious. We both ordered the set menu of appetizer/main/dessert. I especially liked my sea bream (see picture) and we both enjoyed our cream of asparagus soup. I would order off the main menu next time as I saw some good looking meals being served around us, notably some dishes with in-season white asparagus. Service was leisurely paced but not overly slow. The atmosphere was charming--a local brasserie buzzing with people enjoying a leisurely Sunday lunch. I would definitely return to this restaurant.

The best, most unique dining experience we had in Brussels!…read more It's a 15 minute walk NW from La Grand-Place de Bruxelles. Once you've entered Place St. Catherine, you're completely out of the main tourist district which is nice if you want something more authentic as opposed to overpriced and themepark-like. Viva M'Boma is small, clean and has an understated elegance in its simplicity. It's apparent once you see the menu that you are there to experience something you wouldn't normally get at most places that label themselves food-centric (they specialize in organs). Not only is the menu eclectic; they deliver hard core with flavors that are savory, intense and exquisite. For the starter we had Kirr with cassis as an aperitif that accompanied an order of pan-seared calf's brain in a beef boullion with onion and garlic, and a fois gras in a very traditional presentation. Both were outstanding and a good prelude of what was to come. We placed the second order once we finished our starters so that we could carefully select the next delicious offering as there were so many awesome things to choose from. I was tempted by the Pot-au-feu, essentially a stew of beef cheeks, oxtail and marrow, but was swayed by the waitress to the solomillo of horse, cooked blue and with a glass of St. Emilion. Yep, it was incredible! The meat was cooked expertly and the pairing showed of a true professional. My better half had veal cheeks that were stewed in beer and fell apart when you so much as touched them with the fork. This dish exploded with flavor and left us wanting to lick the plate after it was done. We finished the evening off with a house-made speculoos ice-cream (gingerbread) and caramelized apples... Pretty F'n awesome! We really enjoyed the experience, hospitality and knowledge of this establishment. We never felt rushed and all our questions were answered kindly and consummately. If you are in Brussels and are looking for something truly special, masterfully prepared and unlike anything you normally indulge in, please visit this place and stay away from Rue des Bouchers.

Dear brunch-lovers, If you are looking for something trendy…read morebut easy-going, Garage à Manger is a great option for you. Here is my list of convincing arguments: - A fixed brunch formula (25 euro) is perfectly lazy for your Sunday. All you have to do is to navigate from one fragrant dish/steaming pot to another, while listening to the chef murmuring the names of the ingredients; - You eat responsibly: the ingredients are seasonable and local. The chef keeps food simple but elegant. So apart from a great eating experience you leave the place with a couple of new ideas to extend your own cooking horizons; - Even though 'garage' is not the most appetizing place you can think of, the setting of the restaurant is very well-turned. The room is big and spacy, but random objects you have all around, clutter it up in a very cosy way. You feel intimate although the place is very busy; - And last but not least, Garage à Manger is connected to a quaint second-hand bookstore called Pêle-Mêle, where you can pay a visit before or straight after your brunch. Kill two birds with one stone - treat your body & mind equally well!
