This was my first restaurant I came to in Brussels and they have a lot of traditional food - frites, mussels, stews. The atmosphere is a traditional Belgian-French brasserie with a lot of wood paneling, and it seemed like a really popular place amongst locals. (I had gotten a rec to come here from my Airbnb host)
I ordered the rabbit stew, which was cooked in Belgian beer, and came with a side of fries and a side salad. They also give you a basket of bread and some butter. The portions were pretty generous and the prices are pretty reasonable - I ended up paying around 18€ for the rabbit stew and 25cl of Hoegaarden.
The rabbit stew was just okay, but I decided I just don't really love rabbit that much, so if you love rabbit, you'll probably like this. To me, the meat was a little bit dry, and maybe I just feel guilty when I eat rabbit because I had a pet rabbit when I was little, so maybe rabbit is just not the right meat choice for me. The gravy was one of the best gravies for stew that I've had, and I wish I had had more fries to eat with the gravy. The fries were also really delicious - they must have been cooked in some kind of animal fat because they were extra crispy and soft inside. They were the best fries that I've had here in Brussels thus far. But to fair, I only had fries one other time and they were not good. The side salad that came with the dish was good - slightly overdressed with a mustardy vinaigrette, but nice to have a salad because most Belgian food doesn't come with a salad. It was a small small, maybe about 1 cup worth of lettuce, which was suffice and better than just one or two pieces of lettuce.
The service was not great - the servers weren't that friendly and just threw the food and beer down. I don't expect fine dining service, but a little smile wouldn't kill anyone.
The food was decent though and the fries were great. I wanted to try the mussels, they had a ton of different flavors, maybe 20 or so and everyone seemed to be ordering them. If I was in the area, I would come here again to try the mussels, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go here - there are plenty of Belgian restaurants in central Brussels.
3.5 stars for this restaurant - food and beer are reasonably priced, the rabbit was ok but the gravy was tasty and the fries were great. Service was so-so, but was fine for the dining experience. read more
