Stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for a short business trip and walked around the corner to this nicely lit busy restaurant. I speak no French or Dutch, but I was greeted warmly and brought to a table. I had to read from the menu on a chalkboard in French, though the waiter offered help if needed. But I knew I wanted to get their most popular dish: chicken cordon bleu, and it truly was well fried and juicy. With a couple glasses of red wine, and a rich chocolate mousse for dessert, it was a great evening and meal to end my Brussels trip. read more

Yes, I'm a fan of Le Dillens. It brought more life to this little cute square, just opposite Oma. A cosy bar, for Breakfast, Lunch, Drinks, Party... any time of the day fits. The Lunch formula for me stays the best. Plat du Jour at reasonable price and great value for money. Warm, original combination that do NOT involve a sandwich. I love. The terrace is big and kissed by the sun. Perfect in summer/spring and early autumn. Interiors are well thought and trendy, without being too much hipster. They have international press of the day as well, so while waiting for the food you can feel the newspaper touch and get updated with the news from the world. Very quiet. Perfect for a break from work stress. In the evening, the atmosphere is more lively. The selection of beers is good and often there is music by a DJ. Sometimes a bit too crowded. But what to do, it's a good spot for the Saint-Gilles night life, and gladly is not on the Parvis. read more

We just flew into Brussels this morning and almost evening was closed because it's Sunday. We found this cute, cozy cafe/bar near the Louise metro stop on line 6 (blue line). It's at the crossroads of two intersections and the bright lights and social ambience would attract any savy, curious traveler. While we didn't try any of their collection of wine, beer or alcohol we did indulge in warm chocolat! They serve your warm milk and a tiny bowl of Hersey's so you can dip into your milk and stir to your liking. It was busy but there's also outside sitting. They don't have individual menus regarding entrées, they have the daily options on a big chalk board near the bar. My friend and I had a warm chocolat, a burger (no fries ) and a club sandwich totaling to €13.70. Honestly I don't think this was bad at all. We'll be returning back to Brussels toward the end of our trip so we'll definitely be back! The servers were very kind, and due to cultural differences you don't tip. If you need something raise your hand or signal to them, otherwise they'll conclude your still working on your plate. FYI: WiFi is difficult to come across in public areas. Food was delicious, but we had no idea what to order. The only waitress who spoke English was nice, but deep down inside I could tell she didn't want to really deal with us. She looked as though she was in physical pain having to explain the menu to us. I speak 2 languages and felt bad that one of the two are not French... I'm sorry???? We had to wait for our AirBnB to be ready so we came in here hoping to hang out comfortably and pass time away from the freezing weather. They didn't mind us, but didn't mind us to the point where we were completely ignored for most of the time and had to hunt someone down for any help or service. We would've left if we knew where to go, but it is what it is. We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere was very cute. I love that the locals spend time speaking to one another, no one was on their phones, and they genuinely loved one another's company. It was wonderful to witness. BUT we won't be back... Ever. Good, inexpensive, great staff and a great atmosphere to read or chill out a little bit. Crowdy on sunny days, holidays and weekend. I had lunch there, went for a breaky on sunday and go every now and then for a coffee or a beer. Some say it's Bo-Bo. At this price, I don't think so ! Just go there ! read more

Found this little place on Yelp when I was looking for a quick lunch spot. The menu has only a handful of dishes, but all of them tasty and with fresh ingredients! I had a chicken with curry, mango and basmati rice for 11 eur and it was excellent. A friend had a pasta with salmon and herbs, which was also very good. Quick service. Stopped by here before I checked into my hotel. Very chill atmosphere and laid back waitress and bartender. Great beer recommendations from the bartender. Had the miso kimchi fish which was cooked very nicely throughout, but the fish had a slight fishiness to it (half star removed) and the beef tartare was good, without too much overwhelming flavours added. I tried the plat du jour : homemade ramen of pork. Very good surprise, of course not the real ramen but the taste was very good, fresh products. A cool and terrace to enjoy the sun or in the shade. I asked to be fast deserve of a lunch and it was quick, with a great quality / price. read more

Three of the four days I was in Brussels, I was there. It's a nice, neighborhood pub in St. Gilles. The burger was really good, but it's not like an American burger, at least in the standard style; all of the standard ingredients: bun, beef, cheese, bacon, veggies and dressing...all distinctly not what you expect but pretty great. Although it was chopped beef, the taste made it more like a steak sandwich, and the cheese which was something similar to raclette made it perfectly messy. But really really good, particularly with Delerium. There were a lot of excellent, local brews and wines as you would expect. The scene is very local and happy I was with regulars, although going solo was cool as well. read more

Drinks are ok but the service is really bad. They are sometimes even rude in the way they answer you. I know it's usually crowded by it doesn't take much to be nice. Been there twice, just to be sure it wasn't someone on a bad mood (it can happen), but the second wasn't better. I won't give it a third chance. read more

We really wanted to love this place. We travelled out of our way to go here. Sadly, they were assholes as soon as we walked thru the doors. We travel all over Europe and have come across many amazing local restaurants where the people working there have been great. This was our first bad experience. If humbled Americans come into your restaurant for the first time and aren't fluent in French-dont snub them, ignore them, and throw dirty looks at them...be kind. Seriously guys, it doesn't take much. We would have loved to drink and eat here, but it was so uncomfortable, that we had to leave. We only like to eat at the local joints, and sadly this place ONLY caters to people who live in the area. We would have treated you with respect if you came to our hometown. L'endroit est toujours top, hyper convivial, tranquille, lumineux, on aime y venir et y revenir. La carte est toujours nickel également, une liste de suggestions qui change, des plats du jour, et on voyage, surtout du côté de l'Asie et du middle-east. Mais c'est parfois convaincant, souvent fade. Là où certains plats comme le hachis parmentier m'ont conquis, le Masala de patates douces, testé deux fois, n'a juste pas de goût. Les formules brunchs sont cool, mais à nouveau c'est pas entièrement réussi : si les pancakes étaient sympas, le shakshuka était loupé. Ayant vécu dans East London, aka Shakshukaland, je me réjouissais de constater que cette option brunch d'inspiration orientale avait traversé la Manche, jusqu'à ce que je le vois devant moi. S'il avait été cuit dans une cocotte ou dans un petit plat en fonte, au lieu d'être tapé dans un mini-ramequin, ça lui aurait sans doute permis d'éviter la sous-cuisson manifeste. La dernière fois que j'y ai pris mon petit-déj', le pain perdu était surtout perdu et mon granola de remplacement satisfaisant, sans plus. Le service est assez nonchalant, voire éparpillé. Comme si des potes des gérants venaient parfois prêter main forte. Et il arrive que ça râle un peu derrière le bar. Même côté playlist, y a des up's-and-down's : le folk-rock, peut faire place à du classique opéra horripilant poussé à donf. I was very disappointed with how I was treated at this cafe. My friend and I were very polite to the waiter. I ordered eggs and bacon and my friend ordered granola and yoghurt off the menu. My eggs arrived and were nothing special but they were not bad. After waiting another 10-15 minutes my friend's order still hadn't arrived. She politely approached the waiter and asked if her order was still coming and he apologised and went straight into the kitchen. We were sitting in a spot where we were able to see the kitchen and hear the cook/manager working in there. We heard the waiter go in and ask her in french if they were still doing yoghurt and granola, she responded that she would only make it for extremely nice customers. He pointed to us and said well its those girls over there and she said (very loudly) "okay well no, then". The waiter then came out and informed us that we had to order something else. We thought this was very rude and I am appalled that polite customers that did not even complain when their meal didn't arrive, would be treated this way. read more
