I came here with my partner and his parents for dinner and we enjoyed different burgers and their spicy fish and chips- the blue cheese burger was delicious and the spice on the fish and chips were amazing. (Side note: their bbq sauce was made in house and also very good!) We didn't really get to try their beer selection and I've heard great things about their nachos, so we'll have to return! There weren't a ton of folks when we'd gone since we arrived fairly early, but it started to fill up as the evening went on. Additionally, my partner had left behind a backpack and they kept it safe for when they opened the next available day- really honest people and service! They do accept card for payment as well.

The sign is a tiny one over the kitchen entrance so you'll miss it if you're not careful. Arrived on a Saturday around 830pm. Bar was really nice and friendly. Had their pulled pork sandwich with the Dewar's injection. Kitchen is small and can be sow. Don't rush it. Enjoy a few drinks and relax. The house lager on draft was really good. Service was top notch and very friendly. Had such a great time I came back middle of the week and had one of their burgers that was a spicy one. The spice level was fairly hot due to the jalapenos, but it wasn't burn your face off like ghost chilis. I give it a 5 or 6 on the hotness scale. It was flavorful but not anything I would recommend to people who love spicy food. The average person would probably enjoy it. Bar seating with friendly bartenders are what makes this place so skip the table and sit at the bar.

The fries were fine, but not the best you're going to get while in Belgium. Overall, I would gladly stop in again for a beer but would go somewhere else if I'm looking for food.

The decor is unique as you can see from the photos. Our server was very helpful and patient with us since we didn't speak Belgian - only English. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals which were plentiful. My meal was so interesting - a trio of Belgian specialties: meatballs in a sauce of carmelized onions and pear syrup (my fave!!); stewed chicken breast in mushroom cream sauce; and stewed beef in a sauce of brown beer and mustard . It was nice to not have to make a decision since they served them all in their own pots . Served with fries. We ordered a large beer and it was huge. The service was quick. All the patrons were happy with their meals and having a good time. Highly recommend.

Spots like L'Amère are the reason I highly encourage walking and wandering around new places, because there's so much you miss by driving or just Googling. Anyway. I thought that because of the crowd outside, there wouldn't be any seating inside, but boy was I wrong! It turns out people just like to congregate outside of the bars where they buy drinks--I presume mostly because they end up smoking most of the time as well. In any case, I walked in and there was plenty of seating, so I went up and got a beer. The bartender was friendly and let me taste a beer before deciding, which nobody else in Brussels had offered. While I was sitting, I kept looking up, left, and right to check out all of the awesome decor and fixtures. The chandelier especially was enchanting. The installation must have cost a fortune of both time and money. Every other piece of art, instrument, collage on the walls was just so alluring. It made me want to stay there forever and figure out--or make up--the stories behind each item. Overall, a fantastic place with fascinating decor and friendly people.
