I had my son tutored one on one for about 6 sessions with Tyler to prepare for the SAT in June. My son had taken the SAT once before and wanted to increase his score. He took the June SAT and sadly his score dropped. It was a huge surprise for my son because he felt confident that he had done well on the test and actually had time to go over his answers. We even contacted the SAT board and had his test hand graded to make sure there was no mistake. I'm not sure what happened but I was not anticipating that his score would go down, especially after all the tutoring that my son had. The academics at MHS may have been good, but were rendered irrelevant by the brutal, ceaseless bullying I experienced, the scars of which haunt me to this day. I have memories of horrible things my classmates did to me while the faculty and administration stood by and did nothing. It pains me to think that my parents spent so much money for me to be treated so poorly, and even today I wonder how I made it through those years of misery and came out the other side. Today I'm 32 and have a wonderful and fulfilling life that I am extremely proud of - everything I have is not because of, but rather in spite of, my time at MHS.

What most impressed me was how close the teachers, staff and administrators got to know her, and the dedicated coaching she received in every single class. This struck me reading the narrative from each teacher in the first report cards. It was clear they knew my daughter deeply and had worked closely with her to develop her strengths and push her in the areas she needed to grow. The school community was incredibly warm and welcoming, she had many new friends within days of joining the school and felt as if she had been there for years. This was clearly intentional, MHS focuses on fostering a sense of belonging, bonding with teachers, character building and strong academics. my daugher graduated from san domenico in 2017 with honors and, as a result, was very well…read morepositioned to select the college of her choice. her san domenico experience was tremendous, and a part of her life that i'm sure she will never forget, especially considering the very close friends she made in the four years she attended. the ethnic diversity sd offered and championed never ceased to amaze me, a diversity that also encompassed international students from every corner of the world. i was equally impressed with sd's willingness to make their tremendous academic program accessible to lower income families, which further enriched the sd experience. having said that, my daughter enrolled at sd when it was an all-girls high school, and her class remained all-girls throughout her time there, as the classes below her began to accept boys due to sd's (controversial) decision to move away from an all-girls high school format. parenthetically, i can't say enough about what i consider to be the enormous personal and academic benefits an all-girls high school can offer. my daughter also attended sd when it was considered a "catholic school", however it could hardly be compared to the "catholic school" sd once was decades ago, which i considered to be a positive. altho we are a catholic family, we had no desire for our daughter to attended a rigidly denominational high school, instead our priorities were focused on the education and academic support she would receive, which sd delivered in spades. now that sd is no longer an all-girls school, i'm sure it's quite a different experience. however i am close friends with two families who have high school age boys enrolled at sd, and they have been very happy with the experience.

My 16 Yo and I learned about Marin Test Prep at an MTP planning seminar (see website for free…read morevideo). We spoke with the presenter before and after the event, and my child immediately embraced the idea of MTP as a partner. The SAT/ACT test is a critical factor in the Univ. admissions evaluation. In order to optimize test prep, it is crucial that the test taker engage and commit to giving it a best effort and follow the program (including the incremental work which is mostly just taking actual test sections and reviewing the results with the MTP partner). We were fortunate enough to be able to work with Adam, who quickly helped my child realize that we would probably score better on the "Old" SAT, and mentioned that we could still take the "Old" SAT (something we never heard before) My child took an ACT practice test at Marin Test Prep (free 4-hour proctored test) and an SAT (Old) practice test to confirm which test worked best. Adam developed a customized study and test prep process and with a weekly 1.5 hr study session and follow up practice tests at home, I am certain that the score on the initial SAT will be significantly higher than it would have without MTP's help. Thanks to Adam's insight about the "Old" SAT, we also have a chance to re-take the test if needed. Working with Marin Test Prep has increased self confidence and decreased stress and anxiety about the test. By the time the results of our high school PSAT are available, we will have taken a practice SAT, practice ACT and 1 (or two if needed) SAT tests (w/in 3 mos) Marin test Prep offers some great advantages for students: The tips and tricks that always boost scores Understanding of the test "flows"; if you understand the test design you will score higher An evaluation of test preferences (SAT vs. ACT) with customized prep process and an Individualized 1:1 test prep support (which was an important aspect in our case) It sounds like the other reviewer might have wanted a group session, and had challenges getting the test takers committed and aligned with the process. In order to optimize your benefit from such a partner, the prospective test taker needs to embrace the process. In our case, the partnership has significantly reduced stress and anxiety, increased self confidence and will result in a higher test score. All in all, this was a great investment to prepare for the SAT and one which offered scholarly insights that will be leveraged in the future.
