I have never encountered a business owner with such integrity and professionalism as Jai Flicker, owner of LifeWorks, possesses. I had my son tutored one on one for about 6 sessions with Tyler to prepare for the SAT in June. My son had taken the SAT once before and wanted to increase his score. He took the June SAT and sadly his score dropped. It was a huge surprise for my son because he felt confident that he had done well on the test and actually had time to go over his answers. We even contacted the SAT board and had his test hand graded to make sure there was no mistake. I'm not sure what happened but I was not anticipating that his score would go down, especially after all the tutoring that my son had. However, I posted a review on Yelp explaining my experience with Lifeworks. Jai then reached out to me personally to see how we could remedy this situation. He very much wanted my experience with LifeWorks to be a positive one. He listened to my concerns and my side of the story and then shared his side and offered to meet me half way on a reimbursement. My son never had the easiest time in school. A very bright and creative kid, some teachers "got" him and others, well, really didn't. And my son's stamina was impressive, if a teacher didn't see him for the brilliant kid he was, he just wasn't going to learn anything in that class. An A or D student, if that makes sense. We started working with Lifeworks when my son was in 9th grade. It was clear right from the start that Lifeworks would be more than just a place for our son to get some extra help with homework. Quickly, Jai and his team became life mentors. Our son started relaying things he'd learned at Lifeworks, not just lifelong learning and test-taking strategies (which would have happily met our expectations) but strategies for getting along with authority figures, keeping calm and focused in difficult situations, having patience, dealing with peer pressure and on and on. Sometimes it was a downright therapeutic experience for him. Our son seemed to be actually learning more from Lifeworks than anywhere else. Jai soon became the most important male mentor our son ever had. I don't know what our family would have done without Jai and his team. They guided him (and us) from 9th grade through graduation. They were a constant, even when our son transferred to another school 40 mins away. Last year they helped all of us through the college process, which had to be tailored quite a bit to meet our son's particular style of...um..."getting things done on time". I can imagine flash-forwarding a decade or two. As a student with learning disabilities, the education I received in the public school system wasn't obviously wasn't individualized or specialized to fit my needs. Luckily, halfway through a struggling freshman year, my Mother heard about Lifeworks. I'm writing this review because Lifeworks deserves every five-star recommendation it can get, and these five-stars are the least I can do to thank Jai and his team for the help they provided me throughout those four years. Thanks to tenure, It's much harder to find a teacher that will really care about each student gaining an actual education and full understanding rather than just a memorization of a topic for a test. Lifeworks tutors care. The staff at Lifeworks understands that memorizing for a test isn't going to help that student succeed or necessarily understand that subject, many of which subjects are needed to build off of to understand future topics. This understanding is essential for every student, and often a lot more difficult for those with learning disabilities. ESPECIALLY when it comes to math!!! GREGG! Send your struggling math student to Gregg with two G's. I have never ever in my life met someone with such a deep understanding of math. I used to literally learn the math subjects with Gregg and erase everything from my mind that I learned in class because his ultimate understanding of that topic allowed him to explain it much clearer. My introduction to Jai Flicker and Lifeworks was a glowing recommendation by friends of ours about how much their daughter enjoyed going there and how much it had helped her in her studies. Then they explained what she does in the 2 hour sessions and frankly it sounded like a place to do homework. So I was very skeptical about spending money for a place for my kids to do homework. My wife convinced me we should try it and we did so with our daughter who was already in high school. It took about 2 weeks and I was a believer. It was not just a place to do homework. Jai and his team helped our daughter better understand topics she was learning in her classes. They gave her techniques on how to study and to learn concepts. She really looked forward to her weekly sessions and came prepared with topics she needed help with. Our son started going there when he was in high school and also fully took advantage of what Lifeworks could offer him. One very important thing which Lifeworks does for parents. Right after the end of a session (oftentimes before our kid even returned home), we received an email with a summary of what our kid had worked on with the Lifeworks team member. It discussed items which were grasped and others which needed to be worked on some more so we could discuss it with the kids. Extremely helpful, especially because I doubt we would have received the same feedback if we asked the kids. So I highly recommend Lifeworks.
