While the hotel is a bit dated, it served its purpose and we had great stay this past Summer in August. The front staff was cool. We had one issue, but the afternoon staff worker fixed the problem with no hassle. We visited the bar area and utilized bar services while at the pool and it was a pleasure. The weather was nice and those we came in contact with were friendly. No major issues, but the only side eye is how dated the rooms are. If you can get pass this, you will be fine. The views up high are amazing. The wrap around balcony was a nice touch. Housekeeping services were limited, but that was understood in this day in age. The indoor pool was not available, but the outdoor pool was and it was lovely. The water temp was perfect and the kids that traveled with us had a great time. We stayed in the 3 bedroom condo style room... the same building where the check in office is located. Walking distance to the beach and about a few miles to restaurants and shopping. This condo was suggested to me by a family member. We booked 8 days with Carolina Winds because family was also staying there. I was a little nervous because of some of the reviews. First, I can deal with out of date furniture, but I can't handle filth or bed bugs. This place was really awesome. There are two towers of condos. Our room was very nice, very clean and the management company that runs it does a fantastic job. Every day, the grounds were cleaned including the pools, the front desk was fantastic and always had something if we needed it. Our dryer in our room wasn't drying and within 15 minutes, maintenance was there fixing it. The beds in our room were super comfy, we had 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a fully stocked (equipment) kitchen, a great balcony to see the ocean, two pools, two hot tubs and walking distance to the beach, food and shops. Safe neighborhood and quiet. I really was very impressed and would stay here again. My family stayed in a different tower than us and had a 3 bedroom. Their room was a little dated, but still very clean. I recommend this place! I am positive the bad reviews were people who would be unhappy anywhere. read more

First of all this was our third visit and absolutely the worst of them!the room was dirty, and the door would not lock without a forceful push/pull. The water pressure was absurdly low and the toilets barely flush. Several of the lamps would not even turn on. One of our beds had a plastic mattress underneath that sounded like a shower curtain that u were sleeping on. There was nobody working the desk as we called at 4 AM for something we needed. *Severely Outdated *Dirty *Maintenance Nightmare *Major Structural Issues My family has been vacationing in Myrtle Beach every July since 1993 and we've been staying at the Carolina Winds since 1994. We met another family here in 1996 and we all became good friends. Since then, we've all vacationed here on the same week every year. It is currently 2021. In the mid to late 90's, it was a great place to stay and relatively affordable compared to some of the other places around at that time. As time went on, however, we began to notice that even though the times were changing, the rooms and the decor in the rooms were not. The rest of the place (lobby, pool area, and lazy river area, etc.) hasn't hanged much either. We have stayed in a variety of rooms within the resort over the years. We do understand that a lot of the condos here are privately owned and that each owner can use whatever decor they choose. But the dirtiness and lack of maintenance is another story. For a while, we were still comfortable with the place being a little outdated, due to the affordability and the size of the rooms. But in the last 5 years, especially, we have noticed an ever increasing downhill turn within the resort as a whole. It's no longer just becoming very outdated, but it has also become quite the maintenance nightmare and the rooms aren't nearly as clean as they once were. The lazy river has had several tiles missing for years now, with more tiles disappearing every year. There are large cracks forming and increasing in size over time. The hot tub by the lazy river has two extremely large cracks that get longer and wider every year and they just keep sealing them up with white calking. They just re-paint the concrete decking every so many years but they don't do anything about the cracks that are forming or the moss that grows in the cracks. The pool area at the main building isn't in as bad of shape, but the pool itself is so big that there is very limited seating around it and that creates an extremely narrow walkway between the pool and the chairs, which can be very dangerous. There are places on the exterior of the 2nd building where the facade has cracked, decayed, and broken away, exposing the steel re-bar behind it, which is now starting to rust. To me, that screams structural issues, which is a HUGE safety concern for anyone staying at Carolina Winds. It's hard telling where else within the buildings is experiencing structural issues like this or even worse. The room we are currently staying in this year is outdated, super dirty, several stains in the carpet, the floors are filthy in every room of the condo and we won't go barefoot. There are holes in the walls, broken things, dirty cabinets, etc. The folks staying next to us had the roof cave in and start pouring water on their bed in the middle of the night during a rain shower. The resort is noticeably going downhill fast. But what we have noticed more than anything in the last 5 or 6 years is the major shift in the demographic of people that has started to stay at the Carolina Winds. It is starting to become much more of a rough crowd. We can no longer have a nice afternoon at the lazy river with our children without getting constant whiffs of the strong stinch of marijuana. There are times when we feel like we should just get up and leave the pool area or lazy river area because we are uncomfortable with our children being around a rough group of people that walked in. We have heard lots of foul language and have seen obscene gestures from grown adults and even kids around our children, and that's simply unacceptable. The place is quickly becoming less family friendly and more rough. Every year, we come here hoping that the resort has finally gone through some sort of refurbishment, but are disappointed upon arrival every year with no major changes and an ever worsening situation. We have come to the conclusion that even though the resort is in decline, the rooms are still filling up (just with a different demographic). Therefore, the resort owner apparently sees no reason to be alarmed because he's still filling his rooms and making money. If the Carolina Winds is a 4 Star resort, we would hate to see a 3 Star resort. With that said, we have all loved staying at the Carolina Winds for the last 27 years, however, we have all made a unanimous decision to finally move on like many other families already have. We are sad and happy at the same time to be staying at Island Vistas moving forward. read more

I am very pleased to have found Carolina Winds after having to leave The Caravelle Resort early (do not consider them). Customer service was amazing, which is number one in my book. After walking in the door I felt welcomed and like a valued customer! The front desk clerk was very efficient! Online booking is easy and pricing is very reasonable. The angle oceanfront view, is EXCELLENT. Our room was SPOTLESS and comfortable! The decor is very "beachy" and relaxing. They have and indoor and outdoor pool and whirlpool! The outdoor pools goes to at least 10 feet, might be 12. They have a kiddie pool inside and outside. I just wish the indoor pool area was a little more appealing. I'm happy to have found our new home away from home for our future stays at Myrtle Beach! Room 1211. read more

My family of 4 stayed at Carolina Winds in room 1106 for 10 days in August. Besides the AMAZING ocean views, we could definitely tell the owners recently updated. Really felt like we walked into our own coastal getaway when we arrived! Not only did we have access to an on-site pool and hot tub (there's also indoor ones as well) but also to the building a short walk across the street that had a lazy river! Loved having a kitchen to stock the fridge and cook meals in, a balcony that looked right to the ocean, very short walk to the beach (which was not crowded at all!), a bar/restaurant on-site, within short driving distance to all the hot spots (loved Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing!) and friendly front desk staff! Will definitely be back and will be requesting 1106 for all our future stays! read more

Pleasurable weekend. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite on the 9th floor of the building across 76th Ave. Some of the room looks a little dated, however everything you needed in the kitchen, cabinets full of games and puzzles if needed for rainy days or late night entertainment. From the day we checked in until the minute we left every single staff member (front desk, housekeeping, grounds keeper, bar/restaurant workers) went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant! I thank them so much for that! The only thing that kept the motel from getting 5 stars is that our room was a little outdated....but I can assure you that I would rather have a slightly old room with the treatment we received while there! We recently stayed in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo at the Carolina Winds over Spring Break. It was a fabulous choice!!!! The condo we stayed in was #901. It is beachfront with a great view, and is also on the end. It had one bedroom with 2 twins, one bedroom with a queen bed. They shared a big bathroom. It also had a master bedroom, very spacious with a walk in closet and large en suite bathroom, complete with double sinks and a large soaking tub. The master opened up to a large balcony. It was wonderful to hear the ocean at night! The kitchen was small, but had a full sized fridge, oven, and dishwasher. The bathroom appliances were in great shape and the counters were granite or something similar. The sitting room had two couches, a flat screen TV, and also opened to the balcony. Everything was in great shape and nice - not dated at all. We were two couples staying here and didn't use the third bedroom, but it was nice to store our beach stuff. We just wanted two bathrooms and the value was good. The resort was very quiet when we were there. Mostly older couples from Canada! I didn't see many kids. There is an indoor pool and two indoor jacuzzis, as well as an outdoor pool, kiddie pool and jacuzzi. You can walk right to the beach in a minute from the pool area. The outdoor pool was heated and very comfortable to swim in, even when it was a bit too chilly to sit in a bathing suit on the beach. We did get some of those moments too, but it was nice to swim in the pool when the ocean was too chilly. The hot tub was also awesome to hang out in. Staff here were very friendly and happy to be there. Check in and out were a breeze, as were all other interactions we had. The location is great, with a 10 minute drive to Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, and the outlet malls. It's right by a Food Lion for easy food shopping. I would definitely stay here again, and I will the next time I'm in Myrtle Beach! read more

The location is great. We stayed in phrase 2 building and it was ok. The condo was spacious, but the beds were very hard. The lazy river could be torn away and a pool could be installed. The lazy was useless. The filter system for the pools and hot tubs was not working properly or just a bad system because there was hair and other things floating in the water constantly. All the employees I came into contact with were super nice and willing to help. I would definitely stay again. The property just needs some modern updates. read more

Love the casual, laid back vibe of the Carolina Winds. I've been coming back for 6 years now, and have spoken with other guests who have been annual visitors for 20+ years. The condos are all individually owned, so the level of decor differs greatly. But they are all decent, and have a nice view of the beach and ocean. Indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, easy beach access. No restaurant, but each unit has a kitchen, and all the usual chain restaurants are just down the road. It's pretty family oriented and, as I mentioned, very casual, so if you find the pitterpatter of little feet on hot concrete, soaking wet kids shivering and dripping water on the elevator floor all day long, and a lot of splashing in the pools, charmingly reminiscent of your own childhood vacations, you'll like it. If you don't, you're not going to be able to change it, escape it, or complain it away, so stay elsewhere. read more

I chose this location because of the oceanfront view..I was concerned because it stated angle oceanfront view and I thought I would see only a little corner of the beach but I was not disappointed. When I first walked into the one bedroom unit there was the king size bed, 2 dressers, one with a mirror and TV, small 2 chair table..my first thought was, this looks like a run down motel room cuz it looked outdated, but as I kept walking there was a modern kitchen.full size fridge & Stove..it has everything you need microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, blender, pots, dishes, utensils, dish detergent, ..the bathroom was just as nice. Then as you walk into the living room, it has a sofabed and chair, endtables, table with 4 chairs and the TV and one of those beds within the wall to accommodate more people, but the balcony with the view of the ocean was breathtaking to me...everything was perfect...very spacious, perfect for me and my boyfriend, but also spacious to accommodate up 6 or 7 people. the balcony overlooked beach, the outdoor pool, outdoor whirlpool and the the lazy river pool across the street...the indoor whirlpool and indoor pool was a bit smaller but comfortable enough to enjoy if its raining outside..the staff was very friendly, including housekeeper who came daily to straighten up..fix beds, put new towels. They won't clean dishes, so make sure you clean your own dishes after you cook..it has laundry room, a small exercise room, vending machines..the restaurant was closed, it appeared to be under repairs..I guess ti ger ready for the summer..I highly recommend this to anyone who loves the beach. the first room we got was not only dirty (musty smell through room and bathroom gross) but the family got the Coxsackie virus while staying here - our vacation turned out to be a scary living hell thanks to their lack of cleanliness. Very horrific experience to have 1 toddler and 1 baby go through this and as a parent feel guilty for trusting their children's pool. FYI adults unaccompanied by children should not be allowed in the 1.5 ft children's pool. They got 2 starts for the friendly service and for switching rooms after bringing to their attention the dirty smelly room, the intolerable potent weed smell coming from an adjacent room, and the loud sounds coming from the pool. read more

Would definitely stay here again the beach access was perfect, and my kids enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pool areas, the lazy river is across at the other building...nice little bar downstairs. read more

Our first vacation to Myrtle Beach was lovely - in large part to our beautiful condo at Carolina Winds room 802. The finishes and furnishings were up to date, beachy, and clean. The beds were all incredibly comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking items. Bathrooms were nicely done, most importantly very clean. Overall room 802 was perfect and we of course thought the view is priceless. The Carolina Winds facilities were also very nice. The pools, lazy river, and hot tub were clean and well cared for. The only thing that was so-so would be the hallways. They are dated and have an odd smell to them. However the staff was wonderful and we will definitely return again. read more

Everything in the room is outdated and smells old. I found hair in both The microwave and refrigerator. My son woke up with blonde hair strands in his hair (we are African American) every time I put something down I picked it back up with strands of hair totally disgusting!! To make matters worse when I went to take a shower the half used soap bars from the previous guests were still in the shower. The only good thing is the oceanfront view. I will never stay here again. They have the absolute nerve to have an envelope asking for a tip for the housekeeper. Oh I have several tips but none monetary!!! read more

Wife and I stayed this past week and we really enjoyed ourselves. Carolina Winds are "condo style" rooms meaning the rooms your staying are owned by someone who allows Carolina Winds to rent their condos out. Each condo is furnished by the owner so some condos might be more updated than others or might seem nicer than others. Stayed in 711 and for the most part it was nice and adequate for what we needed. Condo was clean and besides some wear and tear was nice (balcony view wad great) The outdoor pool is nice, but appears to not heated. The indoor and outdoor jacuzzi are nice and the indoor heated pool was a favorite hang out for kids. The restaurant that is on the sign is no longer in operation and should be replaced or turned into something else. The staff is friendly and the parking shouldn't be a problem since Carolina winds owns the building next door (which has a lazy river). But the selling point of this place is it's location being smack in the middle of everything and good restaurants blocks away from you. read more

I stayed here for a week during New Years 2009 and it was an amazing stay. The hotel mostly has condo like rooms, when we walked in there were two queen beds and a tv and you went through a door to a full kitchen with stove and everything, bathroom has standard on the right and through another door was a living room. The living room had a pull out sofa and a hidden wall bed and a dining room table with a tv. The room was clean and very homey. The hotel has two pools, a hot tub, a lazy view, a game room, a restaurant, and amazing views. It was a fantastic vacation. read more

I spent a couple hours reviewing condos in Myrtle Beach that would be approx $1,500-1600/week. After a lot of time doing research we booked at Carolina Winds. While we were working through the website to book we chose a condo that would be large enough for my family of 6, but their system kept malfunctioning. When we finally booked a condo it said that the slept 6. When we checked in the guy who is checking the scene and noticed that the condo that we were assigned only slept four people and switched us to the last available condo for a family of 6. To be honest the people that worked at the front desk & around the property were the best part of our experience. Our condo was clean, but VERY dated. I did purchase the VIP insurance for $30 before our trip & was able to leave a couple days earlier & get those two nights reimbursed. Again, the staff was excellent & it was very easy to make that happen & get our refund. The location of the condo was great with only a short walk to the beach, but is very much in need of a renovation. read more

Think again before choosing to stay at Carolina Winds. The online pictures are very deceiving. We had to spend $100 on cleaning supplies just to get things cleaned up for us to feel safe enough for our small kids. One TV out of 4 worked properly, mildew was on the A/C vents, toilets were not anchored to the floor(one was even balanced with a piece of folded cardboard), rugs were all stained and the units itself was very dated. I am highly disappointed after spending that much money to rent the unit. Will not be back. I would post pictures if the site would allow it. read more

We had an ocean front three bedroom condo, it was amazing. My only complaint would be the hallways are in major need of some renovation, the rugs were bad, it looked old out there. For our last day we had a room just to shower in and store our bags, we had a late flight, it was a one bedroom and it was not good, never would have slept in there, it was so damp and musty smelling and the carpets needed to come out of there really bad! read more

This hotel use to be wonderful. But as the years have passed, the rates go up and the care of the place has gone down. The general upkeep of the units is terrible. There is mold in the bathrooms, on the ceiling where there has been leaks. The refrigerator was dirty when we arrived and I had to go and buy shelf paper for the kitchen cabinets before I would put anything in them. They were so sticking and yucky. They don't seem to be making the owners repair/replace/update anything. The lazy river was dirty and the hot tub beside it was terrible. Even the outside of the place is run down. They blue fascia around the roof is peeling and needs to be painted. The Carolina Winds sign looks like it needed to be painted several years ago. Your first look at the place says "go somewhere else". We've been staying here for 25 plus years, but will not be back. Heard the same thing from others while we were here this year. Already made reservations for next year a mile or so down the road. read more

We bought a package through Groupon for the family suite/ocean front view. What we got was what was offered! We walked into this long suite with 2 queen beds, kitchen, bath, living room and onto our ocean view balcony (which was a legit view of the ocean not a partial view.) we have stayed at other resorts/hotels and this one was by far the best. Our room was outdated, but with 2 kids it was spacious enough and I didn't fear my child putting his head through the railings outside unlike another hotel we stayed at. I think the best part was the 2 AC units in different rooms and doors that closed so our kids could sleep while we sat outside enjoying the night! We will for sure stay there again! Not to mention its at the end of South Myrtle Beach so it was not crazy busy unlike staying in the center part! read more

Horrible! Worst room I have ever been in my entire life and made me rethink what I'm willing to tolerate in the future. Actual mold on the wall... "musty moldy can't get rid of with incents, scented candles, carpet freshener, air freshener nor bleach" smell. Sheets, blankets and pillows smelled like death! Literally like somebody died there and they never rented it out again... until this day. We had to go to Walmart (I'm being a good sport for my husband because I don't want to "ruin things or complain or nag") and buy new blankets and pillows. I contemplated sleeping in the car. I cried in the mirror of the bathroom after the tub got stopped up after just 1 shower my husband took and we could no longer take a shower for the rest of the trip... me none. That's right... hoe baths all weekend at an oceanfront resort. I cannot and will not ever stay here again. Not free, not on a super upgrade, not on a timeshare, not if you swear on your mother, not for a family wedding, not for fireworks, not for free liquor, not for a free cruise, not for a free trip to Dubai, not for the kids, not for free aged steaks, not for an amazon gift card, not for my mama... not for nothing! After booking at a nearby "resort" and showing up to horrible conditions I called and asked if they had oceanfront accommodations for our stay. The clerk told me that he did not have ocean front but he had angle ocean front. He also asked me to come over and he would give me a key to personally check out the room. The room was clean and the view from the balcony was excellent. The multiple pools, hot tubs and lazy river were in excellent condition. Parking was also much better than we expected. The service staff was friendly and did an excellent job with the rooms. The elevators were quick and operational for the 5 days we were there. My only complaints are minor: one of the air conditioning units was somewhat loud upon starting (right next to the bed), and the wifi was slow which is understandable for such a large facility. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel. read more

We stayed here for 12 days starting June 12th. We had reserved 2 months before coming and i also called a month before to ensure all was good.. when we got there we had some trouble checking in because the card used wasn't in my name yet when I called month before arriving I asked if I needed to bring the physical card with me (grandmother's card) and they said no that wouldn't be a problem which it was when we arrived.. luckily after about 10 min my grandmother answered and talked with the gentleman who worked up front and verified all information.. He also told me he wasn't supposed to do that.. which when I called a month before hand I should have been told on the phone.. that was seriously aggravating.. We drove 7 hours and if I couldn't have gotten in touch with her that would have literally ruined our vacation.. apart from that we liked it there a lot. Clean, nice rooms and housekeeping came to our door every single day.. the workers were nice and so were the pools/resort.. the location is also great! read more
