    View from the master bedroom

(Those of you who have read any of my previous reviews know I am brutally honest.) Let me start out by saying that after reading the website and other reviews, I had higher expectations for this place than what I actually got. We (2 of my closest friends and myself) stayed here the last week in April, 2021. Upon arrival and check in, 1 of the 3 door keys didn't work. Returned to the office and the same key was reprogrammed. Back to the condo and no dice. BACK to the office where they were going to reprogram the same key again so I asked for a new key and was given one. This one worked. Got to the condo. The kitchen was the best looking room. It had updated appliances and countertops, but we did find dirty dishes in the dishwasher. But the rest of the condo was severely aged. The carpet in the bedrooms had seen better days and looked like it hasn't been cleaned in years. There were obvious spots where food/beverage/etc had been dropped/spilled. The bathrooms were nice but no exhaust fans. And the only tv that worked was the one in the living room. The other 3 said something like "account issue, please call the front desk". Good thing I brought my Apple TV. The resort does have wifi, but it's an unprotected public wifi. Better use a good VPN. (shameless plug for NordVPN here) Interesting discovery when I got to my room, the master bedroom. The door frame looks like it's about come out of the wall, and I find the remains of a blunt on my nightstand. And deciding to look under the bed, I find a "Happy New Years" necklace, so that tells me the area under the beds hasn't been touched since before New Years. What year? We don't know. Another interesting thing is the paperwork I was given clearly says to call the front office and let them know you have trash that needs to be picked up. So I call the front office........several times.......and never get an answer. (as a side note, when I went back to get the room key reprogrammed I did notice the phones were ringing like crazy and nobody was answering them) So one morning housekeeping calls and asks if we need anything. I said nothing but trash pickup. I was told to leave it outside the door and they would pick it up. About an hour later we get a knock on the door from the groundsperson who informs us WE have to take the trash to the dumpster. I tell him we were told my housekeeping to place it outside the door. His reply was "I don't think they know what's going on around here". WOW, really? About midweek I get an alert from my CC company of an unusual pending charge and wanted to know if I made it. I called my CC company and it was a duplicate charge for the weeks rate. I told them I did not make it and they declined the charge. Then I went to the office to request a record of the charges made on my card. There were two pending $363.86 charges that I did not authorize. So I called my CC company back and told them not to approve any further charges from this resort. Again, I had higher hopes for this place than what actually transpired. I normally like to try a place out a second time if I have a bad experience the first time, but this may be one time I decide to not do that. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable staying here a second time. One last thing. Don't use the images you see on their website as a determining factor. What you see is not what you get.

Carolina Dunes is the best kept secret in Myrtle Beach unit #406 had 3 bedrooms an ocean front view and anything that you could want! We will definitely be coming back!

We were there for a week in May. Wonderful unit. Upgraded and the one problem we had, the owner was great and sent a repair technician. We will only use this unit again.

They also have charcoal grills that we used twice during our week long stay. The property has 2 and 3 bedroom condos. We stayed in a 2 bedroom one. Check in was easy as they use a key pad with a passcode to check into your room. I will say though that the key pad lock was VERY tricky to open and probably needs to be switched out. I booked directly with Anchorage online but I've seen other owners put their condos on airbnb. The pictures online for the condo I booked had a major filter on it because in real person it looked really outdated. Also when I walked in it smelled like old. I don't really know how to explain it but like maybe as if nobody had opened the door in a while to let fresh air in. It had a beachy vibe and decor which I like in vacation rentals however as stated before the decor was outdated. It also felt like a lot of clutter. There was something on every wall and in every corner, it was just overkill in my opinion. My room also had terrible lighting. It was full of lamps however they didn't do much. It wasn't very well lit inside unless I opened the screen door. Not all the condos at Anchorage ll are the same though. Some are a lot nicer but I guess that just depends on the owners. My friend stayed right next to mines but you could tell there were a lot of updates made to that one and was just better maintained. Overall I enjoyed my stay but next time I will definitely book another room

The property is located on the beach but surrounded by plenty of restaurants and just a minute drive away from the shopping outlets. Check-in was a breeze and of course, you have to encounter the dreaded timeshare "owner update" speech when picking up your parking pass, but I declined despite the push of 15,000 points or dinner certificates as well all know it's never just a 60-minute update... However, I politely declined again as I travel for work quite a bit and accrue my share of hotel points and airline miles... Anywho, I reserved a 1 bedroom deluxe through the timeshare site and I ended up in the South Tower, 14th floor, and in a nicely sized oceanview room. Loved the hardwood floors, modern decor, full kitchen w/coffee maker, blender, and dining/cookware, washer/dryer, nice comfy king bed and the roomy stand-alone shower. The indoor and outdoor pools were nice along with the easy beach access. The weather was very nice and going this time of year was great as it wasn't too crowded due summer break not starting yet, so it was very peaceful and relaxing. I'm sure they called my room several times to get me attend the timeshare owner update, but I just disconnected the phone line from both phones to have a nice and peaceful stay. Check-out was just as easy and they printed me an invoice to show no charges (my first time ever receiving one as an owner ever), but no big deal... Overall, I had a great stay here and look forward to booking another stay here soon.

They offered to take up the conversation when we got home. So, I set it up with Jake provided he'd send me three specific pieces of info. He agreed. The day came and he neither sent the info nor called. He contacted me a week later and apologized so I foolishly gave him two more dates to call. He said he'd confirm the day. Those two days came and went. No confirmation, no counteroffer, no info, no call, no text. If you are asked to sit down for anything, refuse. Refuse as many times as it takes, and it will take quite a few. Trust quotient is Zero.

First off, for the price of this joint, pool towels should be provided other than having to scan your room key to get them out of a bin (only one bin at one end, annoying) and claiming a "chip" is inside each towel or you will be charged. Okaay, like anyone is gonna steal those? Doubt it and A 'chip'?? Alrighty, still trying to figure that one out. Some security guy rolled up one night asking us to turn music down in the hot tub at 9:45 pm, when we actually had NO music at All because someone had complained about loud music (btw, hot tubs and pools close at 11 pm), He then apologized twice, and said he didn't hear any music either. Upon entering the room, it did not appear to be properly cleaned. The carpet was old, worn, and dingy, giving the entire room a dated and neglected appearance. The furnishings and technology were equally outdated. The air conditioning unit looked more like something you would find in a roadside motel than in a resort hotel, and I was surprised to find a DVD player in the room in 2026. Even the lamps and other room amenities felt old and overdue for replacement. Basic hospitality touches were missing as well. There was no complimentary bottled water provided in the room, and room service was poor. Despite arriving with two large suitcases, no bellhop assistance was offered. What was most disappointing was the customer service. When I approached the front desk with concerns about my room, Andy showed little interest in understanding the issues I was experiencing. Rather than listening to my concerns or attempting to find a solution, he immediately stated that there were no other rooms available without making any apparent effort to check for alternatives. I left feeling dismissed rather than valued as a guest. Overall, this property appears outdated, poorly maintained, and lacking in customer service. Based on my experience, I would not stay here again and would not recommend Island Vista to others visiting Myrtle Beach. This version reads like a credible review that will carry more weight with management and future travelers.
