BEWARE CAROLINA GARAGE SERVICE! My older garage door was rotten and after one of the springs broke, I decided it was time to replace the door and upgrade the curb appeal of my home. After interviewing 4 garage door companies, I selected Carolina Garage Service based on their price (3 of the 4 companies sold the same exact garage door) and seemingly stellar online reviews. This was even after the "estimator" blew off my initial appointment and the owner Spencer Kempton called to reschedule for the next morning. I ordered a 8'x7' Doorlink 431 insulated garage door with Stockton windows for the top panel and add decorative spear hardware. The techs were also to replace the existing track and spring but retain my newer opener for $950. I paid a 50% deposit via Cash App on Wednesday and the work was to commence on Thursday. On Thursday, the installers arrived at my house at 11:00 am and proceeded to start disassembly of my existing garage door. While we were going over the job, one of the installers remarked that if I wanted the "upgraded garage door rollers", they would install them for an additional $80. I pushed back since that wasn't what was discussed and, through my interactions with the other garage door installers, I learned that the "upgraded" rollers were the standard rollers that came with the door. At that moment, I should have thrown them off the property and called the cops. When they unloaded the new door, I noticed that it didn't appear to be the correct model (it was stamped 430, which is a non-insulated door) and did not have the insulation requested. After they called the owner Spencer Kempton, they said that he ordered the wrong parts but they would supply an insulation kit. Spencer would later say this was the fault of the distributor Southern Ideal Door. About an hour into the tear down, they asked to borrow tools to remove the existing door (another bad sign) and then about an hour after that, they left to retrieve different tracks and springs. Mind you, they removed my entire garage door and left the job site with my entire house and garage exposed. I ended up sitting on my front porch for the next hour while I waited for them to return; watching over my stuff. The techs eventually returned with different tracks - this time too short and attempted to install them anyway. After 3 panels were "up" and the track only partially installed, they started to wrap up, vowing to return the next morning to finish. With only 3 panels up, my garage was still open to the elements and potential thieves. After convincing them to screw in one of the old panels to the wall to provide some look of a garage door, they left. Friday morning came and so did the excuses as to why they weren't coming Friday - maybe Monday. They claimed that they needed "angle iron" from their distributor. Angle Iron (the metal bits that the garage motor and track are suspended by) is available at every hardware store for about $15 for 6'. At this point, figuring that it was highly likely that they would not show on Monday either, I messaged the owner Spencer Kempton and his installers telling them that they can pick up the door pieces left at my house on Monday, refund my $475 deposit via Cash App, and they were fired. A couple hours later, I spoke with the owner Spencer Kempton who proceeded to offer me a $75 discount, then offered to send someone else, and then another discount but no refund. He stated that the door could not be returned and that I could have someone else come and finish the job. I declined all offers as the installers took most of the door parts with them and this wasn't the door I had ordered anyway (it wasn't insulated). At some point our conversation, he also admitted that he is living in California, attempting to start another garage door company there and that his installers had not installed a garage door like this before. He was attempting to guide them via the phone but simply, they were incompetent. At this point, I have an incorrect partial garage door, the wrong sized track, not all of the parts, and have now hired another installer to start the entire job again for another $1000+. I don't like when I have to go from 5 stars to 1, but sometimes it just has to happen. I highly suggest for you to not use this company! Turn around and look at others. We had the same exact issue happen 8 months later. We called on Memorial Day holiday as our garage would not close, it would just come back up. The only good thing from this, is we received a call shortly after we left a message and set up an appointment for the next evening. Spencer, did not come out this time and sent out a guy who was not competent to do the work. He clearly did not know what he was doing, and even called up Spencer while he was there to see what he should check out. They said it was our logic board that needed replacing, and it would cost $350.00. Well we decided to wait, and paid them the $40 fee to come out and check things out. My husband decided to look up this information, and after reviewing multiple websites, he was not satisfied that the other guy that came out knew what he was doing as he did not check out multiple items that should have been checked out (at least according to these websites). We however, decided to go with their expertise, and bought the logic board ourselves. $80.00, and they wanted to charge us $350.00? That means they wanted to make $270.00 for a 15 minute job, which is $1,080.00 per hour. Dang, I'm in the wrong business! At any rate, our logic board was quickly received, my husband switched it out with no problem in 15 minutes, but it did not help or do anything with the issue. I called Spencer up on Saturday to schedule him to come back out, not his bad helper, which he agreed to come out on Wednesday evening. After thinking about it, we decided we did not want to go with someone we could not trust. Someone who could not properly diagnose an issue and then wanted to charge us an absurd amount. We called someone out who could come out on Sunday with no extra charge, no charge to diagnose or let us know what is going on, and was simply amazing! I cancelled with Spencer and e-mailed him stating he should really not cash my $40 check or at least reimburse me for it if he already had. The response back was that it is for inspecting and not just diagnosing, they do their best to diagnose. Well obviously his worker doesn't know how to inspect or diagnose, and the proper business thing would be to waive it this time. He called me up at my work number and wanted to explain how it was inspecting and travel fee. Whatever it is, it is absurd and we should have not been charged for the fact that you cost us for sending some guy who is young and inexperienced. He also mentioned that the $350.00 was just an estimate, he didn't know what garage type I had or how much the logic board would be. Okay, in that case, say I will return with your quote, rather than it is going to be $350.00 to repair. I was not going to argue with him while I was at work, so I hung up on him. But there was never an apology, just an excuse for everything. Luckily, we are not out $350, we are only out $120 ($80 for the part and $40 for their fee to check things out). There is no trust anymore in Carolina Garage Service to properly do things and do it at a reasonable charge. I will be glad to refer you to someone who will not charge to figure out what is going on, will charge you the proper amount, and has a great business personality to deal with. You've been warned! read more

Fantastic experience with Spencer and Carolina Garage. I had two new garage door openers installed the entire process was a breeze. Not only did the install go off without a hitch but he took the time to walk me through all of the features of my system. I have to say, it's just great to have a service call happen and go smoothly. Already planning replacing the doors when the budget allows and will be calling Spencer to do those as well. read more

Not impressed with this company. Had them come out in July for a tune up and they replaced the rollers which was told would solve the loud noise, that worked for maybe 1 week. Left a message in Aug and never got a call back. Poor customer service! read more

Found this company via groupon. Did not know what to expect based on prior experience with other garage service companies. Service technician was on time, polite and explained in detail my problem and solution. Would call them again and recommend to friends. Keep up the good work! read more

Day 1:The spring on my garage door broke at 6:33pm. Called Carolina and left a message. Got a call back within about 30 minutes, but the professionalism of the call was lacking. They said they would come tomorrow. Day 2: 11:06 am and we still had not heard from the company. This should have been my clue. So I called them, and they said they would be there within the hour. Well, telling time isn't one of their strong suits, neither is fixing doors well. They arrived after 2:00pm. They worked on the spring and found we needed a new shaft and pulleys as well as springs. Not their fault. So they said they would be back between 5p and 7pm with the parts. At 6:40pm they called and said they would be there in 30 minutes. They arrived at 8:26pm. Late again. Then at midnight they were still working and couldn't fix the door so they left. I got 4 hours sleep that night. Day 3: They didn't rush right over to fix our door. They arrived at 1:50 pm. What kind of customer service is that? They came to the conclusion that they put the wrong springs in. To this day the door is more noisy than ever. read more

I had a great experience with this company! I called the company and Spencer asked me to take a couple of pictures of my garage door after I explained what was going on. I told him that I was on a time crunch and needed my garage door fixed that day and he was able to come out right away and get the job done. He was able to diagnose it over the phone and arrived at my house an hour later with the parts necessary for repairs. The garage door spring had broken and needed to be replaced, and he thoroughly explained the problem and repairs necessary. Spencer came to my house and made the repairs within an hour! I couldn't be happier with his professionalism and his attention to detail. He made sure that my garage door was working properly and that the settings were all adjusted and fine-tuned before he left. Thank you so much! I would definitely recommend to anyone. read more

I hired carolina garage service last fall 2017. There was a tall man who fixed my door he didn't want to offer the online ticket I advised him that would be false advertising and he told me it was a technical error but he would honor and give wiggle room . Thereon was a silhouette of rude comments and it was almost as if he didn't want me in the garage as he fixed the tracking of my door. I caught him banging a hammer on loud metal to act like he was working when the job had been done for roughly 15 mins as i watched from my security camera in my home office. In retrospect he did perform a duty but after the foul hygiene and overcharge for the alignment I wouldn't recommend a dead man to Carolina garage service. Poor job Poor service I wouldn't even put a star but yelp made me - Sincerely S Crawford read more

Fast courteous service, garage door works better than it ever has. Highly recommend!

Genuinely speaking Spencer was a lazy worker. he came to installl a garage opener and on YouTube it said it generally shouldn't take longer then two hours for a install .. he did it in 45 minutes the wiring was half assed and exposed and I didn't mention it but the garage reeked of marijuana odor since his arrival , I wanted to be a nice guy and I offered a refreshment he took me for granted . As I recollect he was somewhat racist and said that nobody does garage doors like a white man , I contacted him and told him how I felt .. he then said it's out of his hands and he did the best he could possibly do. Later the next week my garage door fell off the hinges and I had to once again reach out he told me the damage is done and he knows what he knows .. he said shit happens read more

What a pleasure to do business with a reputable person. Spencer is a trained professional, owns his business and cares about quality. He was punctual, the work was done efficiently for a fair price, he demonstrated how the door should be balanced properly. He replaced coil springs for me and the door is operating in balance like a champ. Do yourself a favor if you need repair or installations, call this local veteran, this expert at garage systems. Very pleased with the results, 5 stars. read more

This company came highly recommended to me for the issues I was having with my garage door rolling off its track. Spencer promptly came out to my house and diagnosed the problem. In just a matter of minutes, my garage door was functioning properly. My garage door opener is very old, and I was fearful that anyone who assessed it would try to talk me into buying a whole new system. Spencer thoroughly checked it out and extended the life of my garage door opener. Spencer was polite, professional, on time, and repaired my door at a very reasonable price. When the time comes that I do need to replace the system, I will not hesitate to use Carolina Garage Service as my first choice. I highly recommend this company for anyone experiencing any difficulties with their garage door system. read more
