Family practitioner said I had a pinched nerve in my food and gave me referral to see Dr. Lee. He…read morewas professional and practical, diagnosing me with Morton's neuroma and giving me some shoe inserts, stretching exercises and a prescription for an NSAID. On my follow-up, we discussed a long-term plan for my condition. Check in was odd as it was just a kiosk, but I'm seeing that more and more at doctors' offices now.

Dr. MELISSA HILL! I can't speak to the other doctors at this location, but I've seen her 3x and…read moreshe's FABULOUS. I really USE Yelp reviews and read them carefully because I really want to know WHY you like a doctor (it is just cuz you think he has "dreamy blue eyes" or is it more?) SO...HERE'S WHY I LIKE DR HILL: 1. I'm 67, fit, active -- walker, runner (not "serious" -- walk/run 2-3 miles 4-6x a week -- swimmer in summer and Fuel Fitness). I have hard plastic orthotics that I've worn for THIRTY YEARS. I assumed, when I first visited Dr. Hill, that my feet have changed over the past 30 (!) years and the orthotics would need to be replaced (not cheap, totally necessary). In other words, 30-yr old orthotics were an engraved invitation to "sell me" new orthotics. Dr. Hill held them to the bottom of my feet and said "well, these still look fine..." I'm not an untrusting person -- but THAT inspired trust! 2. She is a real "problem solver." She doesn't just reach up to her mental shelf and pull off a pre-formulated answer. She really listens and THINKS. And she's very clear, plain-spoken and practical. I have spent $2500 out of pocket (after insurance payments) trying to find out what is causing pain in my right ankle and base of my toes on right foot. 3 x-rays. 3 visits to EmergeOrtho (I could write an essay -- but let me just say I will NEVER EVER return to them -- waste of money. One doctor would contradict the next!) Visited Duke Sports -- and 3 Physical Therapy visits, who said it was tendonitis and only PT exercises would help, over a long time. Exercises DID seem to help -- but still definitely "something not right" and I've been scared to run and scared to do a lot of walking for fear I might cause some kind of real damage. 3. Dr. Hill heard my tale...took xrays. Said "I think what's going on here is complex." Said legs are likely aching due to: 1. my venous insufficiency (wear those compressions socks!). 2. Looks like I don't put the normal amount of pressure on my big toe -- causing the 2 next to it to be bearing more -- getting sore. 3. The two toes next to my big toe slant a bit towards the bit toe. Narrows the gap between the bones on both those toes, possibly somewhat pinching all the things that run between those bones. Said the hard plastic orthotics can sometimes cause an issue -- so go to a store and buy some insoles with heel cups (those were $10 -- so NOT a huge expense). Said to be better about wearing compression sock. When I said "so...why does the middle toe on my right foot stick up like that when I try to curl my toes? Still doing that after a year -- what's causing it?" She said "I have no idea. See? No b.s. -- Just one more reason why I like her. :-)

I was extremely pleased with my recent experience at the Foot & Ankle Center of Durham, which I…read morevisited for diagnosis and treatment of persistant and debilitating foot pain from long years of athletics. The reception staff were the sweetest and friendliest people I have ever met at a medical office; I cannot say enough good things about them. The office was clean and aesthetically pleasing. The entire visit was only 45 minutes from start to finish, but I never felt rushed or short-changed. After filling out a few forms, my medical history was taken by a very business-like nurse, and after a short wait I saw Dr. Simmons. I was impressed that Dr. Simmons took ample time to listen to all of my concerns, and was not quick to jump to a diagnosis. In fact, he seemed less interested in choosing a fancy latin name for my pain, with associated expensive diagnostic tests, and much more interested in simply providing relief. He did not once suggest giving up the sports I love, but instead was focused on allowing me to continue my current lifestyle. In the end, we decided the best course of action was for me to try a $10 foot pad. I thought he was being overly optimistic, but was willing to try anything -- and holy cow was he right, my foot pain is practically GONE! In short, Dr. Simmons and staff represent the best of what healthcare should be -- efficient and results-oriented.

New doctor at this office. She is great! My ingrown toenail is gone since she removed it.read more

Dr. Pifer is great. He not only has a wealth of medical knowledge and experience, he is very…read moreperceptive. Let me give you an example. For over a year, my feet were killing me. Muscle spasms in the sole and heel--where I didn't think cramps were even possible--left me hobbled. My Family Practitioner checked my electrolytes and prescribed quinine. When that didn't work she gave up. Then I tried a fancy internist. He did all sorts of fancy blood tests (not covered by insurance, buy the way), took X-rays (with no weight on the foot), and drew a blank. When one non-fasting blood test finally showed a slightly elevated glucose level, he announced that the foot pain was peripheral diabetic neuropathy-even though I never showed any sign of diabetes before or since. What an idiot. In short, MDs totally failed me. A friend (who actually was diabetic) recommended Dr. Pifer. He took a standing X-ray that showed the foot s-p-l-a-y-i-n-g with weight on it, correctly diagnosed a sports injury (overstretched plantar fascia), taped up the foot, and for the first time in a year I got relief. Just like that. Some MDs turn up their noses at Podiatrists. Let me tell you, I'd rather have one Podiatrist who is awake and paying attention than 100 MDs who are asleep at the wheel.

Not sanitary at all! No sinks in the rooms. Very dirty patient rooms. Doctor did not use gloves…read morethe whole time. No sanitary gel in sight. Uses instruments on patients that are pulled out of a very dirty looking box which does not appear to have any cleaning solution in it? I would be very cautious about using this place. What's even more disturbing is that the NC Podiatry Board is not given "authorization for any site visits" and I can only file a complaint. If this person gets enough complaints then they will be brought in to be "talked to only". I was also advised to contact local Health Dept to see if they had more weight in this matter. OSHA did not even seem very concerned.
