Amazing service! I loved our lunch at El Hoyo. The famous Chilean bevvy "Torremoto" (Earthquake)…read morewas reportedly invented here - it's a sweet, boozy drink that goes down way too easily! We were treated with some live music, which was lovely and unexpected for a weekday lunch rush. It's a huge, sprawling establishment, decorated from head to toe in all sorts of interesting photos, gizmos, old newspapers, etc. Everytime you look around, you see something new. Food is delicious and affordable, including lots of Chilean classics like their signature fork-and-knife sandos and the dense and filling Pastel del Choclo. My only complaint was the noise level - it was pretty loud once the music started. I found it to be challenging to have a conversation at times, which was tricky because we were meeting up with some family for the first time on the trip here, and we wanted to gab. Food is known for being authentic, service was friendly, and at noon on a Friday there wasn't any wait. Large space inside. The terremoto (a Chilean cocktail with white wine, pineapple ice cream, and grenadine) was popularized here and is a must order. We liked the arrollado more than the pork hock, and the cazuela was quite hearty. A must visit in Santiago!

Everything we had was fantastic and the waiter and chef were very accommodating. Everything was great particularly the traditional menu items. The service was warm and friendly. Everything was very reasonably priced. We enjoyed sitting outside given we had just arrived from the US in early December. The plus here... most of the folks (other than us) seemed like neighborhood locals. When you're traveling, go where the locals go :) In fact we met the owner who was sitting at the table next to us with some German expats, which just added to the warmth and depth of our experience.
