Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates - Montgomery, AL My…read morewife recently had her wisdom teeth removed at Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates (7200 Halcyon Summit Dr., Montgomery, AL 36117), and it was a horrifying experience. Her absolute worst nightmare came true: she woke up in the middle of the surgery. Because she was wearing protective glasses, she realized the staff wouldn't see her crying, so she began making noises with her mouth to get their attention. She heard the dentist instruct the nurse to administer "20 more ccs" of medication, but despite that, she could feel the dentist cutting and actively pulling on her teeth. After the procedure, the dentist came into the waiting room and told me she did well, giving me standard post-operative instructions. At no point did he mention that she had regained consciousness during the surgery. He instructed me to drive around to the pickup bay to get her. When I met her and the nurse at the exit door, the nurse simply said, "She did well, bless her." However, my wife was crying, silent, and visibly distraught. As I helped her into the vehicle and asked what was wrong, she broke down and told me she had woken up during the operation. I deeply wish someone on staff had been honest and informed me of what happened before we left the facility. While I am unsure if any formal remedy can fix this, I am sharing our experience to ensure others are aware.

However, after reflecting on my experience, I feel it is important to share it so that others are aware of the level of service I received. In January, I had a consultation for a dental implant procedure and scheduled the surgery for the following week. The procedure itself went well. My follow-up appointment was scheduled for April 28 at 10:00 a.m. I arrived on time for my appointment, but after checking in, I noticed that several patients had been called back ahead of me. At least three patients were already waiting when I arrived, and four additional patients who arrived after me were also seen and completed their visits before I was called back. By approximately 11:30 a.m., after waiting an hour and a half, I asked the receptionist how much longer the wait would be. She stated she would check and later informed me it would be another 15-20 minutes because they were preparing the room. I was finally called back around 11:45-11:50 a.m. Unfortunately, there was no acknowledgment or apology for the lengthy delay. After X-rays were taken, I was placed in the exam room where Dr. Nizam entered. Again, there was no greeting or apology regarding the extended wait time. During the procedure to expose the implant post, I was told I would feel "a little stick," but the procedure was unexpectedly painful and brought tears to my eyes. The procedure lasted approximately 10-15 minutes. Once it was completed, the doctor exited the room without any additional communication or reassurance. I left the office feeling extremely emotional and discouraged by the overall experience. I was so upset that I had to leave work and return home. This was, without question, the most distressing experience I have ever had in a dental office. When I later returned to my regular dentist, I expressed that I would not want to be referred back to this facility for any future procedures. Throughout this experience, I did not feel that my time, comfort, or care were valued. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this office.

When I booked I made it clear that I wanted a cleaning since I was about to lose my dental insurance due to my husband's death last week. After an exam and at least a dozen X-rays later I was given a quote of over $3,000 worth of work they wanted to do. After expressing that I just wanted a cleaning I was told I could come back 2 hours later for a cleaning. In my 52 years I have never been examined by the dentist first then told to come back later for a cleaning. After checking out I was charged $200 for a "deep cleaning." I will not be back to Aspen dental. I feel like I was taken advantage of. I have never had to pay that much for a dental cleaning with insurance before. The only positive thing was that the hygienist was good. Too bad the rest of my visit wasn't.

I assure you will NOT be back. There is no excuse for someone not to be fully numb or spoken to in that manner. She has never once had a problem or fear before this visit. I always had great quality treatment since Montgomery Dentistry took over after the passing of DDM…read moreHallman. But Now I am greatly disappointed! In midyear 2023 they no longer accepted my insurance provider Cigna Dental. The only change for me was that MGM Dentistry moved from an in network provider to an Out of Network provider. Out of Network providers with Cigna Dental are still paid and I have a ZERO DEDUCTIBLE for two annual routine dental visits. After several requests to this group to file my claim correctly they have done nothing and continue to invoice me $250 plus for a cleaning that clearly is a ZERO deductible to me. To further complicate and inconvenience me is that MD is in the middle of replacing a warranted crown that I paid in full. The crown procedure cracked my tooth root and two months later I am paying an Oral Surgeon to extract the tooth and prepare my jaw for an implant. However I remain in limbo since MD can't get my coverage straight. I never asked for this situation and I feel MD has dropped the ball and is unwilling to take the task to manage a transition in insurance coverage created by their action.
