Nice established local coffee house. Great outside seating as well. All the usual coffee specialties made extremely well. Regular "Joe" too. Lots of pastries including AD Astra, breakfast burritos, etc. Go, enjoy.

After spending the better part of the day exploring stops up and down Highway 1, we had only one thing on our mind when we got back into Carmel - a caffeine fix. So, you could say it was more than a little convenient that the first complex we hit off the highway (The Crossroads) also has one of the coffee shops I was most interested in around here - Carmel Valley Coffee! Not that I had heard anything specific about them (or this location), but after coming across their outpost on Ocean Ave and seeing that they had multiple locations listed on Yelp, I figured it was a positive sign that they were as good of a shop as any to check out on our trip! With three locations scattered around town (the third is near this one, at The Barnyard), you could argue that Carmel Valley Coffee is a "mini-chain" of sorts, given how relatively small Carmel is. However, that just speaks more to their success and popularity, as they feel far more local and family owned than the likes of Starbucks or Peet's. As for their menu, they have your typical staples, like espressos, cold brews, frappes, Italian sodas, teas, and hot chocolate, but what really stands out is their super interesting selection of house specialty and seasonal drinks. If you're looking for something to eat, they have a variety of breakfast foods, sandwiches, and pastries, many of which are sourced from regional vendors. -- FOGBREAKER - Vanilla, Honey, Cinnamon Latte The worker mentioned this was one of their most popular drinks, but we were planning on getting this anyways. The balance of the vanilla, cinnamon, and honey complemented each other really well, creating a sweet and somewhat spiced mix of flavors. -- CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF FOG - Organic Rishi Early Grey Tea, Vanilla Syrup, Vanilla Cold Foam, Honey Drizzle Not a coffee like we had intended, but this sounded too good on their summer menu to not try it. For me, I really liked how the earl grey didn't get lost in the vanilla syrup and cold foam and that this didn't taste overly sweet. That said, it could be because we lost some of the honey on the bottom of the lid. Along with our drinks (and the service, which we thought was pretty friendly), the other thing that I really liked about our time here was, quite simply, the vibe. Between the relatively chill pace of everything, the gorgeous weather, and just getting to sit and people watch like a local, the whole experience was so relaxing! Considering how far away this particular location is from downtown Carmel, I'm not sure sure if/when I'll be back, but if I'm passing by on my way down/up Highway 1, you can bet I'll be coming back again for another jolt of caffeine to keep me going!

Almond croissant and spice pastery. The toasted bevy was amazing !

As we passed through Carmel/monterey we kept an eye out for a great coffee shop and fell upon Carmel valley roasting and it is worth 5 stars! The coffee was amazing and pastries even better! The service was quick and ambiance was great as they offered indoor and outdoor seating! The outdoor was cute as it was in the cute crossroads shopping center.

Carmel Valley coffee roasters has a few locations in the Monterey Bay. I usually go to one of them when I'm visiting. The staff are always nice and they are good places to hang around at. The coffee is hit or miss. Sometimes it's very good and other times it's not. Today I had the fog lifter and a slice of carrot cake. They were both ok the coffee wasn't very strong for a dark roast.

A go to spot to meet my friends in my hometown. The Crossroads location is lovely with great parking and away from the touristy Ocean Ave The vibe is clean, cozy and they play great coffeehouse- ish music at a perfect ambient volume . Fogbreaker latte with cinnamon and honey or the Beesting with a little lavender. Service is friendly, Coffee is a step down from Captain and Stoker, where I get straight pour over, but that place is a zoo! This place has comfortable seating, inside and outside, good service and great food options with tons of pastries as well as quiche and breakfast burritos. WiFi is strong and when the family home gets overrun with all the siblings, teenagers and babies, it is a welcome Great place to catch up with a couple of friends!

Nice place- clean, spacious. They have a good selection of prepared food like sandwiches, wraps, and also some baked goods The coffee, tbh, I don't like as much as I like Alta's and Pushkins'. I mean I'll get some if I'm in the area but I won't go out of my way for it.

I'm a travel nurse who has been living in Monterey for 4 months now. Whenever I live in a new city, it is a high priority to find "my" coffee shop for the duration of the assignment. This place is a true gem. Great coffee, sunny spacious patio, and kind "regulars" abound. I'll miss this place!

Good quality coffee and tea at reasonable prices. Good ambiance. Not sure why the place is ranked below 4 stars at the time of this writing.

Expensive coffee for the quality. The only frappe's they have are made with an ice cream base that isn't good.

My wife went with the Breakfast Plate, a solid and delicious choice, and our friend tried the Ceviche, which was fresh and bright. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted even better. Hamachi crudo was fresh & balanced. Cavatelli pasta was a bit too al dente and dense, but the fixings were delicious. Lobster roll ($48) needs more flavor (should have read the reviews), and the double burger is huge! Overall very pricey (see website menu for current prices), and the dinner entree menu options are pretty limited. For the high prices I would want to be wowed by every dish and flavor, and to have more options, to be enticed back.

Coffee please, well wouldn't ya know there was a place across the street. It was 12noon small place, no line, lots of pastries and some lunchish items in the cooler case. Large hot Mocha no whip for me, P got himself a latte thing. Both drinks were up almost instantly and out we went. First sip ah...warm....wait a second. Paul said mines cold...er. The pastry the server chose for me was good, no pastries are made on the premises. Not sure about the lunch snacks origin. We sat at the bistro tables on the sidewalk and admired the parade of tourists and residents. P went in for a reheat, I washed the pastry back with my warm coffee. The reheat worked for P, no problem. We enjoyed the scenery, had a few laughs, and left when a resident tried to parallel his Rolls Royce in front of us. An old friend put me onto Carmel Valley Coffee, so I figured why not give it a chance... and honestly, I'm glad I did. The kind of cup that makes you slow down and appreciate the moment. The shop itself is cute, cozy, and carries that laid-back Carmel charm. Service was polite, friendly, and quick -- no rush, no chaos, just good people making good coffee. I also tried the "Dubai" croissant, which sounded amazing, and even their IG photos looked good but didn't quite meet the expectations. It appeared to be a basic croissant (similar to something you might find at Costco), then they take Nutella and spread it on top themselves, then finished with kataifi and pistachios. I was expecting something more elevated-, like a house-made croissant, possibly filled with pistachio cream and topped with a richer chocolate and pistachio spread. The concept is great, but I think the execution could better match the expectations set by the menu.

Last coffee stop before leaving Carmel-by-the-Sea…read more We walked in mostly because the place looked cozy from outside and honestly... sometimes that's enough. Warm lights, wood everywhere, fresh roasted coffee smell, random little pastries behind the glass, people quietly sitting with laptops like they've been coming there for years. Ordered a large Honey Bee Latte. My wife got a hot matcha. First thing I noticed? Carmel prices are absolutely insane. Almost $18 for two drinks and I definitely looked at the receipt twice for a second. But then again -- this is Carmel. At some point during a California coast roadtrip you stop questioning it and just continue the experience. Coffee was good. Not "best coffee of my life" good. Just genuinely solid coffee made by someone who clearly does this all day long. Matcha was smooth too, not overloaded with sugar like in a lot of tourist spots. One woman was basically running the whole place herself -- taking orders, making drinks, talking to customers, keeping everything moving. Respect for that honestly. And weirdly enough, that's what stayed with me the most. Not the latte. Not the pastries. Just the feeling of the place. Quiet. Warm. No fake energy. No rush. Would I come here every single morning? Probably not. Would I stop again during another Highway 1 trip? Yeah, I probably would. Strong 5 stars. Real place. Real people. Sometimes that's enough.

From the outside, the place looks like a little hole in the wall with just a sign outside and an A-frame advertising their specials. When you step inside, however, it is surprisingly roomie with a few places to sit. My +1 tried the lavender latte (with honey) and liked it so much that she ordered it again. I'm not one for lavender, but I took a sip just to try it, and the latte was very pleasant and the honey added just the right amount of sweetness. I on the other hand, opted for the Tidal Wave, which was their blend of energy drink, and raspberry syrup added. It was admittedly, a little sweet, but I found myself ordering it again. Also just because I needed that extra kick, and the sugar didn't bother me with all the walking we were doing. There are several coffee shops that we visited in Carmel, and we found things to like about every one, but we did find ourselves walking into this one every time we were nearby
