The idea of CarMax is great, the place itself is not. I usually do the traditional dealership experience but the car I really wanted was here. My husband set an appointment to do the 24 hour test drive. Because of the timing with the kids getting out of school he called to ask if we picked it up early, could we still return it at 5pm the next day (like an hour difference). They said yes, not a problem. He went to pick it up and they essentially said whoever he spoke to lied to him and that it had to be returned exactly 24 hours after pickup, no exceptions. 24 hours and he had an appointment for when we dropped it off. We got there a little early and they said that they didn't have anyone available to assist us. The appointment meant nothing, we waited for over an hour past our appointment time before anyone could help us. We buy the vehicle and immediately start seeing things that were not obvious before. A crack in the windshield covered by a sticker (why did they cover it?), scratches all along the side of the car, the brakes squealed something terrible, taillight was full of water, one of they keys had a button that was taped on (not obvious because they had a cover on it), the list goes on. So my husband spends some money to get an inspection done at a brand dealership only to find that there are a myriad of things that were overlooked. CarMax did at least agree to do their own inspection and fix some of the things, but this truly should not have been an issue to begin with. So now our new to us vehicle has been sitting at CarMax for over a week to have some issues addressed. Exactly how I wanted to enjoy my purchase.

UPDATE: We had a fantastic experience purchasing a car at CarMax. We had the car shipped from the Carmax in Ontario. Since we already had a loan prepared, the buying process was smooth and quick. Ian guided us through every step, from test-driving the car to finalizing the purchase. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We stopped by CarMax Victorville to check on a car we had reserved from Ontario. When we arrived, we saw the car had just arrived but was still on the delivery truck. We went inside to ask if we could see or test drive it, but were told it wasn't ready and might take a couple more days. The frustrating part? Just 10 minutes after we got home, we received a text saying the car was ready. We wish they had done a bit more to check on its status while we were already there. The timing was so close--it felt like a missed opportunity.

Daughter bought her first vehicle .

The people they hire learn that the customer is always right, and in CarMax case be honest with your customers and not get over on them

He said in broken english that they only buy cars at his junk yard, so I asked if he knew of any other ones in the area. He didn't even bother saying anything else and just hung up on me. Rude and impertinent for no reason what so ever. Additionally his website is not active and takes you to a spam site.

A miserable excuse for a company. Don't even try doing business with them. You'll waste your time…read more Here's what happened to me: (1) I called yesterday, and they gave me a quote for the pickup of my old car. They said they would show up this morning between 9:30am and 10am. (2) After waiting until 10:15am, I call their office and ask where they are. They give me the phone number of the driver and ask me to call them directly. (That's customer service fail #1. You don't have your customers call your drivers. Call your drivers yourself, and you call your customer back.) (3) I call AND text the driver. No response. (4) At 10:25 I call the office back. The office guy says he will make a call and call me right back. (5) It's now 10:35, and the office has not called me back. (Customer service fail #2. You do not tell your customers that you will call them back, and then not call them back.) I call them back. They now give me the number of a *different* driver to call. (6) I call the number of the new driver. The new driver says he needs a couple of hours because they're out of drivers. I respond, patiently but firmly, that that's not going to work, because they told me yesterday that they would come between 9:30am and 10am. He says he will call me right back. (Customer service fail #3. No apology, no word of explanation as to why I was told one thing but given another.) (7) It's now 10:45am. I call the office number, and the guy in the office pushes the "decline" button; I am sent to voicemail after one ring. I then call the second driver number again, and after one ring, he does the exact same thing. (Customer service total strike-out. You don't ignore customers. Period.) This is the first one-star Yelp review I've given. I'm normally able to find *some* sort of silver lining that merits at least two stars for a company. Not these guys. There is not a single redeeming quality about their entire operation.

Things happen, I understand that these are used and untested parts. The way this company handled the entire transaction upon my discovery of engine fault, is completely unacceptable. This last purchase was an engine I purchased in February and paid for 1 year coverage with labor. Labor rate they use is national average from 1990 I'm assuming. Since February I've been telling them this engine I purchased was defective. They would send a mechanic to come inspect it, back and forth delaying my progress by 3 weeks at time while they try to schedule their mechanic to come and inspect it. The person they did send knew nearly nothing beyond mechanical issues that he barely even tested for. Fast forward to September when they finally agree to come take their engine back, refund my money and pay labor. Delays pick up by a week again with some lame story about the driver and check not being with the driver etc. says he will call back but literally never does. I had to continuously chase the dude down. I recall the motor being stripped at arrival and instructed my staff to remove everything in preparation. Their guy arrives, takes engine, no check in hand as promised. After a call, I'm told they have to inspect and check before delivering my money. My customer is delayed their vehicle and my time again wasted. Then, no phone call, no single ounce of communication a refund check arrives with $350 deducted for missing parts. I call again and say all parts are at my shop and I can happily bring them over for the $350 back to me. I can't remember what an engine looked like 7 months prior! Guy goes he's gonna talk to the boss and will let me know in 1 day since he's already left. 5 days goes by and again nothing. I finally call them and he gives me a BS story of once a check is written and money deducted for parts removed, there's nothing they can do. These guys are crooks. I am never doing business with this company again. Two stars for their consistent answering of the phone and somewhat friendly demeanor when speaking.

One employee parked a vehicle vertically near the entry way towards the front of the main entrance. The vehicle was blocking other vehicles entry and exit way. After I struggled to park the car due to the White SUV refusing to move the vehicle, I proceeded to reverse & exit but the driver in the car stopped. He then began having a conversation with another employee casually while she leaned on the driver window with no intention to move out the way. She began yelling at me once I carefully backed up due to the other vehicle not moving and causing great difficulty. The employees began yelling aggressively at me. I explained to them I had to maneuver around them in order to exit due to them blocking the road. The staff here is blatantly rude, disrespectful and do not care about the customers or the company's partners. The rider was very uncomfortable after experiencing this incident. I will be reporting this to the regional manager and corporate for further assistance.
