It is my belief that they have the worst service department and manager, Theron, in Tulsa. The car is as expected but when a check engine light came on they could not properly diagnose the issue resorting to changing the engine. Really? I have many years in the automotive service business and there is always a cause to any complaint. Never once have they given one just kept throwing new parts at a problem. Now after changing the engine, which did not fix the problem, the heater core is plugged with trash from the salvage engine. To make matters worse they want to charge me 1700.00 to change it out. After hours of dialogue and explaining that it is not failed it is just in need of a flush, no dice. I strongly recommend avoiding this company! read more

I was recommended to try CarMax by my boyfriend, who did a lot of research and even reserved a few cars for me online. Most of the vehicles were out of state, so i had 2 shipped to Tulsa. My first experience wasn't great. I initially worked with Tyler, who didn't seem to take me seriously. Because my license listed a different city, he assumed I was taking a 24-hour test drive out of town and denied me the opportunity. It left a bad taste in my mouth and made me hesitant to continue. Still, I had already shipped two cars in, so we decided to try again--and I'm glad we did. This time I worked with Maegan, and she completely turned the experience around. She was kind, professional, and actually treated me like a customer. I wasn't a fan of the automated text responses (those bots got confusing), but Maegan always helped clear things up quickly and made the process feel more personal. She assisted me with test driving the vehicles, navigating the trade-in process, and even using the 10-day return policy. I really liked both cars I shipped in, but ended up going with the Toyota in the end. It arrived later which is why I bought my first and ended up returning the car and getting the later. There were some hiccups with slow computers and what looked like system changes, which could easily frustrate anyone--but Maegan stayed patient and was incredibly helpful through it all. Our second purchase from the Carmax chain, I remain impressed. Sure, you can't negotiate the price but that just means that they haven't inflated it so that you have to start talking them down. All of the inventory is on their website, so you can get a good look and start to decide on what you want to see close up. They won't sell junkers (or at least they say so). Once you finally make up your mind, the purchase process is easy. That's the price. Are you trading something in? Do you want to finance here or elsewhere? Done. Since this wasn't my first time, I had an idea what to expect. From the time we walked through the door to the time I was driving my "new to me" car off the lot, one hour and one minute. They're not everywhere, so this purchase required a two hour drive to get there, but it was just so easy and hassle free that it's worth it. I can't say enough about Carmax. read more

I've had my car for a year and the service department has had it longer then me. Last week my car broke down on me. I took it to Carmax to let them know the problem and if maybe I could get into something else. Talk about a SLAP in the face. They wanted to offer me $2000 for my car which per KBB my car i fair condition is worth $4000. I was given a loaner and left it with the service department. I JUST got my car back two days ago and gues what. It DIED on me again! I'm seriously so frustrated. BUYER BEWARE This carmax is DISHONEST. Do yourself a favor DO NOT BUY FROM CARMAX. My wife and I bought a 2018 ford escape with 49,000 miles for roughly $18,000. At 51 thousand miles check engine light comes on. We take it to a machanic thinking its a catalatc converter based on the codes the DTC was spitting out. They claim we will need to do major work on the engine due to coolant leaking into the headers. We take it to carmax and they gave me a free diagnostic and told me the diag was not able to read my cars computer???? So we take the car to Ford. Ford had no problem running a diagnostic and tell me that the motor in the escape is not the the original engine in the vehicle??? Carmax did not disclose that to use. So my conclusion is either carmax mechanics are either dishonest or ignorant at their jobs or both. Point is from my experience Carmax of Tulsa cannot be trusted. Oh yeah Carmax is also being investigating in 38 US states right now for theses same types of issues look it up. read more

As far as the sale goes it was great. But the business office is so screwed up and don't know what they're doing. It's taken over a month to get money returned to me. The business office clearly doesn't follow the same rules with every customer nor does every employee follow or know the "policy". I've been told so many different contradicting things. Finally I was able to get a transfer fee refunded via customer care call center. This business office at CARMAX in Tulsa has made my buying a second vehicle through them the worst experience of my life. Not to mention the Maxcare and GAP situation was a joke when I canceled do to a wreck. I intend to return the second car, get my deposit back and never step a foot back into CARMAX again. Horrible customer service. Not to mention today, that the manager on duty kept cutting me off, talked down to me argued with me that I needed to talk to an finance company I have no affiliation with. Call back get placed on hold and finally get a manager who doesn't resolve the issue just says it's "per policy". Purchased a Honda Pilot from Carmax October 2022. Car had alot of spots that were touch up with a paint pen( ugly job). Salesman said they would resolve the issue. After we purchased the car he began to blame us and say we didn't show him the damage. This entire ordeal turned out to be really ugly. I'm here at Car Max Tulsa 6/30/22. I literally flew in from Memphis to purchase a GLA Mercedes Benz at 11:30 am. I did arrive early and they didn't have the vehicle ready so my friend and I went to lunch and returned @2:30pm my original appointment time. 1st the sales woman Jamie didn't tell me anything about needing to bring my original documents which I uploaded prior to flying in to Tulsa. Ok, that worked out because I was able to login and retrieve those documents. Now it's 5:00 pm I'm still here. Not because the paperwork is not complete, but because the 2018 GLA Mercedes Benz quit on me on the expressway 6 miles away of me heading home to Memphis. The vehicle went completely BLAN, screen BLACK! I called Car Max and was placed on hold for 10 minutes while I attempted to navigate the vehicle through 100 degre weather! Finally making it back to Car Max and everyone including the manager looking at me like I've done something wrong. Granted he did offer to repair the vehicle, but not today tomorrow. I declined and ask could they reimburse my flight. The manager sarcastically laughing said "WE WILL NOT BE DOING THAT " Then proceeded to ask do you want me to put you up in a hotel for the night and we'll have our service team take a look at the vehicle tomorrow. At this point I'm disappointed with the entire process! My primary problem is CarMax's entire motto is that they put all vehicles through an extensive Car Max ga check! Obviously this was not done because I literally drove 6 miles and the. Vehicle Quit! Furthermore, befo I drove off initially I waited 20 minutes for someone to come out to sho me how to operate the navigation and Blu Tooth system, no one ever came I figured it out on my own! I should have ran then, but I liked the car. Now it's 5:30 and I'm still here waiting for them to process the refund! Today was my first time ever to a carmax. I will never shop anywhere else again for a car. It was that good. They were busy, but not too busy to get to me. The supervisor apologized for the wait and told us they could schedule a time or we could wait, and it would be under 30 minutes. We waited, and at 22 minutes(we know b/c he was counting), he brought us our rep. Loved the financing, I got too see the result on the computer and choose my rate, not wait for some blowhard in the back for 2 hours while they "helped" me. May 2019 purchase. The sales process was better than expected and working with the sales person was very, very pleasant - highlight of the whole process. The transfer of vehicle to Tulsa was quick. HOWEVER, the inspections they tout that takes place on the vehicles is not to be trusted. They sell many makes and models, therefore, should have the trained personnel familiar with those vehicles. In addition to having the vehicle transferred in from Texas, it was obvious that inspection there either did not take place or it was done by someone unfamiliar with LEXUS products. After a few of weeks of the purchase, we had concerns about separation of the front bumper along with a noticed paint run on the front end -- which obviously pointed out an accident not noted in the inspection. Upon review at the dealership, it was reported the bumper was actually an after market product and not Lexus, and it will not align and attach properly to the vehicle. We now are faced with an expensive choice to bring the integrity back by replacing the font bumper in order for better resale later. read more

We were preapproved online and purchasing the SUV was not difficult. But driving home a warning for low tire pressure came on in a very dark rural stretch of Interstate. Despite airing the tires up the dash warning didn't reset and CarMax had no recommendations. It cleared after driving 4 days. The SUV battery was totally dead and wouldn't hold a charge about 3 weeks after purchase. Since we live 95 miles from Tulsa, CarMax paid for new battery at Toyota dealer. That was good. Carmax didn't mail our paperwork for title and tags and it's 29 days after purchase. They explained that they wanted to confirm my address that they obtained from us 3 separate times - on application for loan, on day we purchased and with signing the loan papers. I can't register the vehicle or get tags. If I became delinquent on my loan, I doubt they would have a problem finding my address! This is the 3rd vehicle in 13 years that we bought from CarMax, once in NC, then Maryland and never had a problem getting paperwork until Tulsa. Really? Oh, for an update, the certified mail notice was delivered on 2/1 and because it was more than 30 days, I got a tax penalty of $ 150.00. Thanks CarMax read more

I had just bought a 2015 Ford Escape from CarMax last month and my experience in dealing with them was SUPER! I wasn't pressured and was really not looking to buy a car that day! However, with the super customer service from Dirk .... I ended up with a great car at a terrific price (after my trade-in) with no hassle! I had gotten there as soon as the doors opened (10 a.m.) and was welcomed by Dirk! After picking out six possible cars I liked and test driving the one I eventually ended up with and after the paperwork was finished, I had left with my vehicle around 2:00! Update... They may be great if you go finance through them and go with a state tag. If they tell you that they will reimburse you for anything you pay toward a tag, be sure to ask all the questions you can about where the rest of the money it goes, how long it takes, etc. They avoided telling me much of any information about what will happen with the difference and made it sound like I would get reimbursed with money soon as I bring in the receipt. Exceptional customer service! I bought a truck the middle of this year and picked it up in the rain. When it finally dried out I noticed a cloudiness to the paint on what area. A few weeks ago I decided to have it looked at finally. I discovered a fairly significant issue with the paint when I took it to my detailer and then a paint guy. I emailed them clearly not expecting much to happen as it had been 6 months and they had no obligation to do anything about it. I was shocked when Tyler from their service department called me the next day to schedule a time for me to bring my truck in so they could fix the issue by re-paining the area at no charge. I showed up on my appointment day and he had a loaner car ready and I was in an out with no questions asked. He said they would get right on it, but to give them a few days to get it fixed. They called the next day for me to pick it up and it looked showroom new. It even had a full tank of gas and considering I have a 30 gallon tank that is extremely generous. So many things they did that they didn't have to do, were under no obligation to do, but did so anyway. Truly the best customer service I have ever experienced. read more

I paid to get my car detailed because I'm looking at selling it. I took it to CarMax for them to appraise it and after wasting an hour of my time, they gave me a lowball offer on my nice BMW. I walk out to my car and there's greasy scuff marks all along the driver side door panel and on my carpet!!! I turned the car on and they have changed my radio station to some rap crap that's blaring. So frustrating that people can't take care of your things!! read more

I didn't do my homework on the value of the car I was buying. My Fault!!!!! I had heard good things about the no haggle pricing policy Car Max has. I just went with whatever they had for financing because I knew I would be switching to my Credit Union anyway. I have pretty good credit over 700 and thought it was odd that Car Max was only offering Chop House financing should have thrown up all kinds of warning signs again my fault. When I got to my credit union I had to buy down the loan to the tune of 2000.00 bucks to get to 110 Percent of the cars value the max my credit union will loan on a car. In fairness to Car Max I did roll 748.00 dollars into the loan to cover the Tax and Tag on the car. I would just say do your Homework before you buy a car. Never trust a car lot to work on your behalf. read more

My car buying experience was good. A lot shorter time than other dealerships I've bought from. I felt like they low balled me for my trade in. Then, the car I bought was dirty and in need of a good detail. The salesman said that they don't detail the cars until they go to their new owners because it's pointless when you have people going in and out and test driving the cars. I feel like they should detail it real nice when they first get them in and then again quickly when going to their new owners. The car I bought was really dirty inside and out but he said they would make it look as good as new. Well, they did an awful job of detailing it. I think all they did was vacuum out a little bit grass and dirt on the floors and quickly wipe the dash down. There's so much dust and grime in all the nooks and crannies, it's pretty disgusting. So on top of being low balled for my trade in, the cost of the car, registration, title, & tags...I'm now going to have to pay for a detail on my car to make it look decent and feel brand new to me. They really need to do a better job at detailing and allowing customers to feel like they got a new car. read more
