Predatory Practices and Subpar Vehicles - Beware of CARMAX I'm compelled to share my terrible experience with CARMAX, particularly for women considering doing business here. They seem to prey on women with limited automotive knowledge, pushing poorly maintained, unreliable cars at premium prices, banking on the assumption we won't know better. Carmax never disclosed the fact that the engine had been repaired twice but sold me a car at full price. Carmax pulled up a car fax report stating no repairs and no accidents which is a big fat lie! I purchased a vehicle from Carmax believing their sales pitch that it was "in perfect condition." Within four months the check engine light came on. The car began breaking down. The car had a major engine recall that clearly weren't addressed prior to sale. A trusted mechanic confirmed these problems should've been DISCLOSED and FIXED before the car ever hit the lot. When I returned to discuss the issue, I was met with condescension and dismissive remarks. They refused to take responsibility or assist with repairs, leaving me stranded with a lemon. It's clear they're prioritizing profit over integrity, targeting customers they assume won't and can't push back. I urge women and others to stay away from Carmax. Find a dealership that values honesty and stands behind their vehicles. I wouldn't wish this financial and emotional stress on anyone. It's been a whole year that I have been fighting with a car that the dealership knew was a lemon. They clearly capitalized off of me and now I'm stuck with paying for a problem that I can't afford. I have brought multiple cars from this company and this is the thanks I get. As a single working mother I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Go elsewhere this place does not have your best interest I've noticed this for a whole year now. Even speaking to corporate they also have no compassion. Telling me to trade the car that they know is an issue leaves me upside down and without transportation. This is the very reason people give up in life because of predators like these people. The stress this place has caused me is insane. Save your money, time, and sanity - shop elsewhere. read more

Bought car in past but finally reviewing. Car buying process overall lackluster. If Isaias still works there, ask for someone else. Seriously dude. You wasted my time having to go through service later. Asked him to have something fixed before it was sold to me - he refused. I just said okay, I'll buy it and then have service fix it later which is what happened. It was interesting how I didn't get a survey from Carmax about my buying experience - probably because they know I wouldn't have rated it highly. Where Carmax earns their stars on this review is the service dept. They did not fight me when I told them all of the miscellaneous issues that were wrong. They fixed them all. Service dept very nice. Kept me in the loop even when it took a long time and I had a loaner. Would consider getting another car through Carmax due to the back end alone. read more

I gave 1 star because no stars wasn't an option. The entire staff is rude. The managers treat you like crap. They're extremely nice when they receive your money but if there's anything wrong with the vehicle you purchase or if you return the car you will be treated You will be ignored. Passed around to several individuals and waiting for over a month for your refund with no explanation. I will never purchase anything from CarMax ever again because of this location. read more

Do NOT take your car to the service department at this location! Dave, the Service Manager is horrible with customer service even though he's been with the company for more than 20 years but he is still inexperienced and doesn't care about his customers at all. I took my car in for a wind noise service but accidentally twisted my whole door and left a gap. They "fixed it" after complaining but when I went to pick up the car, I noticed all these new scratches from the tools they've used to reframe the door again. This is unbelievably the worst experience I've ever had in my life. I called Customer Relation line and now I'm waiting for a resolution as I don't want them to do touch ups since it will decrease the resale value of the vehicle. So disappointed by the entire service team. read more

Pros: My car buying experience was absolutely no hassle... no B/S.. I searched the website for weeks & picked out a few cars to test drive. I called finance & spoke w/Thomas Martinez & started my application process. Within 15 min he called me back with finance info & the interest rate even lower than what I demanded... Upon arrival Thomas Martinez was busy & Tony King assisted me. These two gentleman knows exactly what customer service is all about. The whole buying process from my initial call, test driving to the paperwork took less that 2 hours. Cons: The service department sucks!!!! My vehicle year on all the paper work was incorrect & a hassle to get it corrected. My temporary tags was placed on with a paper clip. You have to schedule an appointment with the service department & it took a month to get my vehicle in. Had a 7:30 am appointment for oil change & check tire pressure. 2.5 hour wait is insane... what's the point of having an appointment. read more

So far, it's been a horrible experience. The vehicle they sold me had defects within the first week. It is a known problem with this model. I told them what the problem was. I told them what to expect from a part and work effort standpoint because I looked it up on YouTube. I'm no mechanic, but I certainly am doing a better job than these people....see below. Getting the service organization to return a phone call - forget it. They never call, never follow up. After days, I finally get them and find out they don't even have the part, haven't gotten a clue when it will come in. Promise to call Friday with status. Remember the part about telling them exactly what the problem was? Yeah, apparently ignored. Buuuut waaaiiitt, it gets worse. Friday comes and goes...guess...wait for it....yep, no call. So I call the sales guy...he says service is closed on Saturday. I'm kinda doubting their open on Sunday too, right? Tick Tock.....my life without a car is slowly and painfully going by. I've been calling them for days, no answer, no response. Yesterday (Friday) I called them 7 times. Number of times they picked up? ZERO. It's Saturday and they've had my car for nearly a week and I have no idea when I'll get it back. So here you go, CarMax, here's what I'd say to you if you ever answered your phone: - you sold a defective vehicle - you have poor communications - you poorly execute service - you have no escalation processes for customer problems - you apparently have the inability to satisfy a customer I have no choice but to publicly call out the quality of your customer care at this point. You've given me no other options. All in all, you suck at this. Not just bad...suck, and badly. Like incredibly badly. Like hard to do worse. Like a bad joke. Get it? It is not difficult to pick up a phone or return a call. It is not difficult to keep your promise to communicate with a status, even if things are not going according to plan. It is not right to impact your customer's life by your inability to service a vehicle that is under your warranty that I bought. Monday, you will talking to my attorney. To my Yelp community: DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE - YOU WILL REGRET IT. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. 11/14 - Finally someone called...they will try today to finish, maybe tomorrow. 11/15 - OOOOPS, they were wrong, they don't actually have the part, but they are dispatching someone to go pick it up. 11/15 PM - OOOOOPS again, the poor guy is stuck in traffic. Well, at least HE has a vehicle, right? riiiiight? They will try to work on my car first thing. 11/16...didnt get a call as promised, what a surprise 11/17..my car is up in the rack now... 11/17..I get a call from some carmax customer service person...how can she help, she asks? I say" can you make sure my car gets fixed today?" No, she can't do that. "Can you connect me to someone who is in charge of customer service for the company?" No, she can't do that either. She can connect me to the location that's already had my car for a ridiculous amount of time, told me stories, and can't communicate though. Very helpful. Other than that, she cant do a thing. We are now pretty far into the negative star territory. Ah, yelp, if only you gave me this capability, it might be a world record negative number. CarMax, do you see how ridiculous this is? ???? Will someone from customer service management please contact me? I won't hold my breath. It is now officially a week (edit..nearly two weeks)and they still havent repaired the defective vehicle that they sold me. You know, the one that goes through their rigorous quality checks? Riiiiight. Ah, let's see what adventures are in store for us tomorrow because I'm going to journal this every day. read more

Background: I bought a car (Kia Soul) here a few years back while rebuilding my credit and recently been jonesing for a new car again. I started looking around on the app, which is pretty nice to use and if you schedule a test drive online someone calls you quickly to get some information and set up a transfer. I've come to realize that CarMax is for three main types of customers that like to buy here. Folks that have no inclination to play the negotiating game, people that actually are car enthusiasts and buy a diamond in the rough and throw on the famous warranty, and people who are just looking for "a car" and something in the lot just happens to meet that need. If you fit any of those in the least you'll have a great experience and they are super nice to you. However, i got totally obliterated on my trade appraisal, which to be fair that's how they make their money. I could eat a loss of 500, maybe 1000 but they were about 2500 lower than the competitor. So buyer beware. If your car's paid off or you're going to buy your new used car in cash it won't be an issue. Just don't expect to get anything close to KBB. I'm going to hold out a bit longer or find a dealer willing to work with me a bit. read more

Don't buy here! Go to another CarMax location! I test drove a car at a different location. Loved it, wanted to buy it, but I lived back in Houston. So I talked to a sales rep here named Cam Branham. Before I agreed to pay their steep transfer fee $400, I went through my pre-qualification. I told the rep, Cam, how I've seen the car and am definitely buying it and had all my payment info ready to go. I made sure I was paying x% ApR for 72 months after 20,000 down; (before I agreed to the transfer fee). Car came into the dealership this week. To add insult to injury; I saw the car on a joyride on hwy 45 right next to the dealership the night after it came (CarMax papers on the windows). I confirmed with the CarMax rep, Cam, that they had that joyride on record, checked out by one of their mechanics. So it was admitted!. I would say it's for testing, but the guy driving was hitting well over 95 mph. After seeing that, I hear from the sales rep, Cam Branham, who had my down payment information down... but oh, the APR went way up! And I told him what we discussed before I agreed to that transfer fee. GET IT IN WRITING! .. He just played dumb and wouldn't budge... at this point I wanted my transfer fee reimbursed for witnessing the joyride and having them confirm it. But no, I was told the managers here wouldn't reimburse me my transfer fee unless I bought the car with their jacked up APR % for payments. So I paid a $400 transfer fee for all the Gulf Freeway CarMax employees to enjoy joyriding this blue 392 Dodge Challenger. And I should have just bought it at its original CarMax location (where they don't upcharge from the original APR agreed upon) This is just the worst CarMax location. Try any other UPDATE:::!: they had to add 1,000 miles to the mileage on the car. So it has somehow gained 1,000 miles after arriving at the Gulf Freeway Carmax!... Avoid this CarMax unless you want them to dog out your (potential) car! read more

Purchased our Audi Q7 here recently through Chris and it went pretty well. We financed with our own Credit Union brought in the check for the amount, and we were able to do a curbside pickup. The GM (Mr. Landheart) came out and greeted us. He even showed us some features on the Audi we were unaware of and went out of his way to show us he really cared. The gentleman Andrew who helped us with finishing the paperwork was very helpful with making sure we understood the financial paperwork. We were in and out in under an hour. We love our Audi and would definitely recommend this location to anyone looking to work with honest, knowledgeable professionals who value the customer over the sale. Also really loved the fact that they were all wearing masks and using proper hygiene precautions. read more

This was my first Carmax experience. It was quick, easy and painless. I went in to get my car appraised, it's a free service they offer. I am in the market for a new car, if they sold new cars I would have been happy to sell them mine and get a new one there....but they just didn't have what I wanted to get. I didn't think it would hurt to have a separate appraisal, and I was right! They offered me $500 more than the dealership where I was buying the new car. I showed them the paperwork and they matched it!! If I am ever looking for a good used car, I will for sure come to Carmax. Very professional staff, no high pressure sales tactics. Let me start with a little backstory. I knew I had to get another car a few months back - there is that point where it doesn't make sense to keep repairing it. So I had looked around and ran across this car max location. That experience went surprisingly well from the time it took to get me my information to the pleasant surprise from their offer on my car. All in all that is what I figured I would get from this last visit. During the time when I went to get my car I had purchased to get my seats updated with leather. The only reservation I had at the time was about dropping off my car. I had a feeling it wasn't going to go as smoothly so I kept putting it off. Finally after being called and having someone confirm that they didn't need any additional documents (which I asked if I needed to bring) and that I would be in and out I scheduled my visit. Which leads me to my visit. I get there and its almost like nothing has been to prepare for my drop off. Any thoughts of in and out during my lunch hour are out the window. And of course even though they have a copy of my insurance and assured me on the phone that they didn't need it - they did in fact need it. And of course a paper copy so having the app does me no good. They saw I was on a tight schedule and acted completely indifferent about the whole thing. If you are wrong or messed up at least own up to it. I wouldn't recommend going here at all! read more

If I could give this place a negative star rating I would. Not once but twice this same dealership allowed us to make a reservation on a vehicle to purchase and then sold the car out from under us. The manager Todd and salesman Mike tried to tell us we didn't have a reservation for the car they sold out from under us. Funny enough we have proof of the reservation. They couldn't tell us why just that the car we had reserved was sold. This is the second time it's happened to us so obviously they are in the practice of changing their reservations at their own convenience. The salesman noticed that there was 2 profiles which explains how they were able to unreserve the car by making a new profile to set a different date of reservation which explains why we never received an email on the fake reservation date made to make the vehicle available. Absolutely garbage all the way around, then have the nerve to pretend like we made a fake email or something. Todd is definitely the kind of slime ball car sales manager you hear about when people talk badly about car salesman. read more
