I visited Carl's Place on a Friday and was greeted by Steven (or Stephen? Apologies if I got the spelling wrong!) as soon as I walked in. He asked if I was looking for anything specific, and I let him know I was interested in wandering around to find what needed me. Without any doubt in my mind, the mission was accomplished. My husband, who was tagging along a few steps behind me (to be honest, I was on a mission) was also met with the same warm welcome. We eventually made our way to the register, where another gentleman helped gather my total. We all ended up chatting about the horse that was the center of my little shopping spree. Rude, rude, rude. Went in on a Saturday and was told I could exchange or return blankets if they didn't fit on the following Monday. The blankets did not fit, returned on Monday, and the (comparatively) younger guy implied that my barn manager didn't know what she was doing, although she has a lifetime of experience. He also said he would hit my equine when I described behavior I would like to modify. I got strong alcoholic/wife beater vibes there. I had thought toxic masculinity was a myth, but I was wrong. Then during the return on Monday, the old guy started whining about how they were going to prosecute me if my check bounces. Class! I had been courteous, and I was appalled at his mouth. I had tried to pay with a card on Saturday, but their credit card reader was down I had offered to wait until it was fixed, but they declined and said pay by check. I I won't be back. read more

You all need to realize that this place offers good products at very reasonable prices. Yes, it is quirky, Carl can be rude sometimes, but come on... He's an old guy who has worked hard. It is just an individual store trying to make a living. Get a tougher skin. This country has to quit whining. Since when are horse people so sensitive? So tired of it. You will regret once they are gone and all you have are the bog box stores with higher prices. Love this place!!! Everyone is friendly and very helpful. LOVE the prices. For anyone saying anything derogatory, like that Carl is grumpy, ya'll need to slow down and recognize and accept that he's an older gentleman and actually is very nice but may have reflected how he was being spoken to. I found him to be very agreeable and helpful as well as willing to negotiate on saddle price which isnt done in corporate stores. Glad to support our local business. read more

I was treated poorly at this place, as I am not the first one that has been. The older gentlemen was so ignorant to me as soon as I walked into the building. He questioned my knowledge on fitting a saddle to my horse. I was told to bring my horse to their facility, as it's a two hour drive for me. One of the workers had to come apologize to me for the mans rudeness. I was informed that the place had a big selection of saddles and they did not. Their shipment of all saddles came in on Wednesday and I went on Saturday. Wasted time, gas, and money. On the other hand, good prices for equipment. Won't be returning. read more

Been going here for years! Live very local. Must say after the very rude and accusing way Carl acted toward my daughter, it will be known to never shop there again. Maybe it is time to retire and pass the torch. read more
