Just a mere hop, skip and a jump from the motorway exit, Willow is easy to get to - even for city dwellers. The only downside to it's location is that it's in the middle of a block of office buildings so it's somewhat lacking in the view department. However, with such great food and service, the view, or lack thereof, is pretty easy to get past. As for the menu, it's full of modern takes on brunch classics. For example their porridge, which is served with chia seeds, steel cut cinnamon, fruit jelly and fresh cream. Yum! I, however, couldn't go past their eggs benedict, which they serve with a savoury Japanese pancake instead of an english muffin and a wasabi hollandaise. The pancake was full of herbs and spring onions, and the wasabi hollandaise was lemony with a subtle kick. If I had one complaint it would be that the pancake batter was a little stodgy. Mention must also be made of the coffee. It was absolutely perfect! So good, in fact, that I couldn't help but order another one after my meal. I never do that.

I arrived on a crisp winter morning with a craving for good coffee and scrumptious food. My companion and I were promptly greeted and our coffee orders taken, two soy flat whites which arrived in record time. Coffee was great, however it was served in very small cups. It was so good I almost ordered a second cup when offered but I had a grumpy toddler in two & didn't feel like tempting fate. I ordered the smoked salmon which tasted like it was house smoked, and it was perched on top of rocket leaves, avocado slices and a charred pea and corn fritter. The salmon was topped with a dill sour cream, and the plate garnished with a sticky balsamic reduction. Unfortunately I could not detect any dill flavour in the sour cream and although the salmon was plump and tasty, it was a tad overlooked for my liking and had two pin bones left in it. These small falters would not deter me from returning to this delightfully bright and airy cafe. Their spacious & picturesque courtyard was screaming out for warmer days to arrive as soon as heavenly possible. Lovely customer service which was very attentive without being at all intrusive.

Most of the food stands didn't open up for another 20mins, so we wandered around reading all of the menus and deciding what we wanted. The last stand we came across was Burg'z. Whom I believe was the owner said "we are cooking up a beef and a chicken burger for a photo shoot. Would you like them after, since we're just going to toss them?". I already had my eye on this place and free dinner sounded like something we couldn't say no to, so we accepted. We purchased some awesome fries and beers to accompany our meals. Let me say that this review has nothing to do with the fact that our burgers were free. They were fantastic! Large, flavorful, fresh and filling! We shared as we both like chicken and beef and were beyond satisfied. The owner (I think) and his coworker were very sweet and we had the best experience. I wish we had room for the list of amazing milkshakes on their menu, but unfortunately we did not. We thanked them with a gracious tip and went on our way. I'm not sure who was taking photos but my guess is the NZ Urbanlist or something similar on Instagram. Can't wait to see them as I am sure they represent the taste well!

Luckily this isn't the case here, the buyer bach is nestled into a group of shops in the heart of Takapuna, at least one of those criteria is true though, the burger bach is about 250m from Takapuna beach. The inside is simple enough, the staff were friendly and happy. (yeah happy is actually a measurement in my book) and the atmosphere is super-casual. The Burger Bach serves GOOD food, not hipster food with a perfectly sculpted lettuce leaf and four tiny patties arranged just so, no .. this is classic food, this is perfectly cooked meat, fresh lettuce, additions of your choice and some amazing caramelised onions that I cannot fault. If you're coming back from the beach, if you want a snack with some great taste, then the burger bach is your place.

Just on The Strand- on your way down to the beach, there is a cute wee space where the Bach lives with it's bookshelf feature wall with a mixed array of old school Kiwi items such as the Weetbix tin, weathered board-games and other knick knacks. A cool upside dingy above the large communal table with hanging lights. A nice couch with crochet cover and chair to sit if you're after takeaways instead of dine-ins on the cushioned wooden benches or metal red-black-white chairs at smaller tables. Side-note; they have the coolest bathrooms where the walls are completely covered in board-games. If you're after chicken- the Captain Chook is a winner with it's bacon+ chick breast combination, and you can choose cranberry or apricot sauce. Super generous with that and the aioli- so be warned it might be a bit of a mess to eat- but oh so delicious with it's avocado, tomato, red onion, big leafy lettuce and cheese stack. Very filling- so come hungry. High praise for their milkshakes- got their vanilla. Surprised by the tall cup it came in and it's weight- they must put ice cream in it or something, but so creamy and yum. Can't wait to try their other flavours (chocolate, strawberry+ banana). For a childhood throwback- order the Churrios, which is a small bowl of cheerio sausages with ketchup. Definitely come in
