I booked my reservation online at home on Ohio. It was extremely easy to do and never had any issues in common with Carlos Jeep Rental. What I liked about the service was letting them know west time the Puerto Rico ferry would be dropping us off on Culebra. They picked us up from the ferry and drove us 5 minutes to their business location. There must have been 7 of us waiting in line to rent a vehicle. The problem was there was only one girl doing all the paperwork. This took some time and you could see every one was antsy to move in with their day. She was by no means in a hurry to get us checked in and out the door. I will say there would have been no way we could have made it to our cottage located on one of the largest hills on the island that over looked Flemingo beach. We took the off road route to get to the beach instead of being with the crowd or having to pay the entrance fees per person and per vehicle. There was no way a golf cart or even a car would have survived that fort road and I'm still wondering if it was even a road. But the jeep did us well. We had no problems with it. Or was comfortable and my girlfriend was able to connect her iPhone and listen to her music and / or podcasts. The only issue was we needed to make sure to fill the gas tank back up before returning the vehicle. We finally found a gas station near the ferry dock but there was a large line to wait. They must only have one gas pump. Plus road construction didn't help us. We had a jeep to return and a ferry to catch, so we decided to pay the rental fee for gas. I found out that the price for gas was $17.00 a gallon. Luckily I only needed one gallon. I will use Carlos Jeep Rental when I return to Culebra island. read more

Once you exit the ferry, you can catch the free company mini bus to the rental lot. It's not far, but it would be a difficult walk if you're carrying all your beach gear. Reservations are advised, but not required. If you go on a busy day, it's likely there will be nothing available so plan ahead. As for the rental.... TRASH. We got 2 jeeps. One of them had 4 thousand miles on the clock and I swear the transmission was going to give in any second. It had been beaten up so bad, it was struggling to make the hills. The second jeep was even worse. Only 2,000 miles on the clock and it was garbage. Lots of dents and scratches. It was given to us with only 20 PSI in the front tire, clearly a leak. They didn't want to fix, just top it up, though it quickly went down again. This Jeep also had a faulty key remote. The car only intermittently recognized the fob, so every time we wanted to start the car, it was a guessing game of how long it would take. It also meant that the burglar alarm would go off and were were unable to silence it until we could get the remote to work. We stopped by Carlos Jeep Rental and the lady working flat out and rudely said she would not do anything about it and all the jeeps there were for other people. Overall just terrible customer service, and a lottery if you will get a functioning vehicle. read more

Customer service at spirit airlines is better than here. Contacted the rental place via their website - it said to call - I called- they said no reservations over the phone, I have to come in. I come in, they say they have to wait for the ferry to come in to see if they will have any gold carts left. This is at 5:00 and they keep mentioning they close at 6. So basically, they have poor book keeping? I don't really know. They also said if nothing was available at 5:50 pm we would have to physically come back at 7 am when they open , I don't know why they would turn down someone wanting to rent a vehicle for 7 days vs. Someone wanting to rent for the day . Extremely difficult to get a live person to speak with before and/or after your online reservation! We've called several times and to no avail. There was no way to confirm our reservation on the phone & our best bet was to respond there in person. Once you have your rental, everything else falls into place. This is NOT a serious company. In June 2023 I went there asking for their cheaper golf car as I was about to leave the island in less than 3h and just wanted to see around before leaving. They offered me one for ~ $90 and I took it! But for my surprise in the next day when I was already out of the island they sent me a text message charging me + $24.82 ??? I immediately called them and they said that on my contract was saying that was the price I agreed for. As I was traveling and I understood that the company is a mess I simply forgot about it like ~$25 is not worth my energy. However we are almost in October and I am home in San Francisco, CA and they f@ck!#% charged me again the same amount os $24.82 ??? We didn't have a reservation and had to wait in line for over an hour. Everyone was hot, sweaty and tired. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead. There aren't many options for rentals so you are at their mercy. Take lots of pictures of your vehicle. They gave us one that had clearly been in a wreck previously. read more

Visited the island a few months ago and the front desk guy with the colored eyed and curly hair tried to rip me off :( Luckily I had a copy of the original invoice and showed that to him and he then feigned confusion and then gave me the original price. I read the reviews before booking so I came prepared lol. I took plenty of photos beforehand and made sure to snag a photo of what the gas tank looked like after dropping it off. The golf carts are also really out of date and make loud popping sounds when you're driving around. Also beware, they only take 1 person up to the facility from the ferry - even if they have room. Just know what you're getting yourself into! Good news is that Island Culebra is beautiful and you will have a wonderful time visiting. Just keep your wits about you. read more

Carlos Jeep Rental, I had a very bad experience with this car rental company. I rented a jeep with this company for 2 days to visit the island of Culebra, PR. The day I rented it the girl working at the reception was very unfriendly, when she gave me the vehicle, she made a very light inspection and made notes of previous damages in the vehicle, however, I took precautionary measures so I asked her if I could take more pictures of damages that she did not mention (super worn tires, little visible scratches, etc) this because she made a very quick inspection and I know how this works with some car rentals. (see pictures #2,#3,#4) Today I returned the vehicle, I returned it as clean as possible because they charge $150, if the vehicle is returned very dirty or wet inside. One of the employees inspected the vehicle and reported to the manager that the car had a scratch under the front plastic bumper. (See Photo #1). The manager Carla S. Cortes told me that I had to pay for the scratch that I never caused. We got into an argument because who wants to pay for damage they didn't do? Anyway, I asked to speak to the owner and she would not provide me with any information, I also pointed out to the girl the previous damages that the car had and that they did not have in the "reports" and she did not give me any answer. I put insurance on the vehicle for $15.99 per day which covered any damages to the vehicle with a deductible of $500, however the girl valued the scratch at $88.53 and since the cost of the damage was less than $150 then the insurance did not cover it. What kind of joke is this? They really want to make an idiot out of you and I imagine they will do the same to many people who continue to rent here. I am SUPER uncomfortable that they take advantage of people , this is not about the money but the disappointment that one feels to come to the island and spend a good vacation becomes a scam. I hope you don't go through this experience because if I paid $88.53 today for a damage I didn't do, I don't want to imagine what they will tell you. My wife and I rented a golf cart from Carlos Jeep Rental. They had a shuttle van waiting at the Culebra Ferry Terminal to pick us up and transport us to their lot. The lot is located at a highly trafficked four way "stop." Be careful pulling out of the lot! From the ferry drop-off to pulling off the lot took maybe 15-20 minutes. We were able to get on with our vacation quickly. I was expecting more turmoil and hassle, which I wouldn't doubt happens in a busier season. The card machine did go offline when they tried running my card, but it was back online within a couple minutes. I was walked out to the cart, and the employee did a once-around. She checked the gas and told me to have it filled back up to a certain point when I returned the cart. Then, we were off. The rules warn you not to take the cart up steep hills, and you may want to consider the weight you have on your cart. My wife and I are both small. We were able to go from town to Zoni Beach and Sunset Grill without issue. Over 2-3 days, the cart got down to about a quarter tank. I spent $10 to refill it. Drop-off was easy, too. I just pulled into the lot and took the keys to an employee. He checked to make sure I refilled the tank, and we were free to leave. I asked for a ride to the ferry terminal, and this all took about 15-20 minutes max. Book ahead, and give yourself time and patience if you are traveling in a busier season. If you are traveling with kids, you may want to consider a Jeep. However, the golf cart was sufficient and easy to maneuver around town. read more

MAKE SURE THE REMOTE KEY IS WORKING PROPERLY TO AVOID A $300 CHARGE FOR DAMAGES!!!!! I rented a jeep on 3/21/21. An employee walked with me to the jeep and handed me the remote key to start the jeep and It didn't turn on so she showed me how to use the key manually. At the time it didn't seem like a big deal to use the key manually (turn on, lock and unlock the jeep) so I didn't request a different key. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. On 3/22/21 around 10:45am I noticed I left the key inside the Jeep the night before and was locked out. It took over 30 frustrating calls (from me and my girlfriend's phones) and almost 4 hours for someone to come to unlock it. I asked the guy if i could keep the properly working key so that I don't get locked out again and we switched keys. I returned the jeep on the morning of 3/23/21. I later got a call from them saying that there was salt water in the key I was first given and that I would be charged $300 for the damage. I explained that i didn't take the key in the water, that it was already damaged and that the employee that gave me the key had to show me how to use the key manually. The woman on the phone mentioned they had pictures of the key with salt water, then repeated that I would be charged the $300. If you're looking to rent a car on Culebra, you basically have two options. I don't know about the other one, but I found Carlos' to be very professionally run. We rented both a golf cart and a jeep from them. They've got a big garage for hosing down the vehicles, since they're inevitably covered in mud and sand. The front desk clerks were right on it when we walked in the door each time, and didn't give me the hard sell on extra insurance. Just explained how it worked and let me sign or not. I can't speak to the shuttle. We arrived at the airport and walked right over. The cart was mostly self-explanatory. Just switch the handle under the seats to reverse. The brake is also the parking brake. The gas tank is under the seat. I didn't even check to see if the turn signals were working (you don't *really* need them here). The golf cart wasn't powerful, but what do you expect? It was enough to bum around town, get to the beach and the grocery store. You get to feel the wind in your hair, but you have to watch it because you will lose anything that's not tied down. Some of these roads are BUMPY. And there are places you can't go in golf cart. For example, Zoni Beach is out. But I did see someone made it all the way up to the Resaca Beach trailhead in a cart, which was amazing When we returned the cart for the jeep, they had a array of gleaming, brand new 2020 Jeeps to rent, in every color imaginable. We went with bright blue. This was like luxury compared to the golf cart. Air conditioning, protection from the rain, tons of space, and the ability to drive up any steep, rutted out hill you can find. Prices are a bit steep (I think the cart was $40/day and the Jeep $75/day) but I can't even knock them for that. You have to make money where you can on Culebra, and when the business is being run this well, you don't mind the price as much. Also, I've heard a lot of people complaining about the fines for getting the inside of the Jeep "wet or excessively dirty." Indeed, they warn you of that and there is a $150 fee. There's even notes about this on the golf cart windshield. We kept that in mind, kept any wetness out of the jeep, drove barefoot when our shoes got incredibly muddy hiking to Playa Brava, and only got sand inside, which apparently was not a problem. read more

PLEASE TAKE EXTREME CAUTION AND PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK if renting from Carlos's jeep rental. We called a month ahead of time but were told that we were not able to make reservations and we needed to inquire once we were on island. When we arrived, we were able to get a jeep and for the next day, no problems. On my wife's birthday, we went to our Airbnb to get ready for dinner. As we were leaving, the Airbnb we rented was located at the top of a hill. I parked the jeep WITH the parking break initiated to ensure the vehicle was locked in position. The minute I stepped off of the vehicle, the jeep begins to slide, NOT ROLL, slide down the paved driveway. Please note, this was PAVED road on a roughly 30% grade. Jeeps are built to handle terrain much worse than this, especially if the car is in a parked position. Needless to say, we were shaken up by the situation and of course went through the typical protocol of calling the insurance company and so forth. By far the biggest issue we had was trying to get into contact with Carlos's jeep rental. We called them multiple times throughout the night with no response. Apparently they don't have an emergency number for after hours emergencies (5pm). The following morning I was able to get a hold of someone. After explaining what happened, Yaritza, the owners wife, the first statement she made was that we were responsible for any damages to the vehicle and costs related to recovering the jeep. I didn't say anything, but I felt a lack of basic human decency and instead of asking if we were ok, they immediately deflected and began with pointing the finger with whoever is responsible for incurring costs. While we waited for someone to arrive, there were items we needed to retrieve from the Jeep. For insurance purposes, we decided to take some photos and videos during which we noticed that the tires were COMPLETELY bald. After carlos the owner finally arrived, The impression my wife and I had was that he was more concerned about his vehicle and reimbursement then the safety of his clients. At this point I pointed out that this "accident" was likely due to faulty tires which we had taken videos/pictures of. He essentially blew us off and restated that we were responsible for towing and damages. When I explained to him that insurance would be responsible and he needed to deal with them directly, his disposition changed and he suddenly became responsive. I hate to speculate but the impression I got was that once he knew that Insurance was involved, this was his opportunity to milk the situation. Again, not really concerned about the well-being of his clients. For the next 36 hours, I attempted to contact Carlos and one of his associates. One of his associates ultimately called and he essentially tried to coach me into how to navigate with my insurance company to get them to pay. I explained that all communication needed to be between my insurance company, Carlos and whatever services he used. The following day I was able to contact the Airbnb host who was kind enough to give us a ride to town and drop us off at Carlos's car rental. When I arrived, i was initially told that it was Carlos' day off. Shortly after, he was suddenly at work but the daughter lied to me about numerous other things. Of course I called her out on some of it but at that point I was exhausted and fed up. I again called my insurance company since I wasn't sure if I was supposed to actually show up to the car agency to sign paperwork since I was ready to leave island and wasn't sure how to proceed, etc. Here I am, 30 minutes away from catching my flight back to San Juan, and I still have not received a phone call from Carlos or anyone at his agency. My insurance company said they've left several messages w no success and not even a courtesy call. To summarize, this whole situation has been questionable to say the least. The way that Carlos and his agency have conducted themselves feels shady, and the fact that they continue to avoid me and my insurance only confirms my suspicions. Please be careful! read more

As soon as we got off the Ferry, Carlos's Jeep rentals was there waiting to shuttle anyone who needed to rent a vehicle to their location (there were also lots of other types of transportation waiting at the Ferry but I went with Carlos's because I had heard so much about them). They did not disappoint. The renting process was so simple and the people that worked there were super nice. Just keep in mind, they only shuttle the renter so if you are with anyone, you will have to drive back to the ferry to pick them up. It wasn't bad though as it literally took me 3 mins to drive back after renting my golf cart. I'm not sure how their prices compare to other places but I was just looking for something convenient and easy which was definitely my experience. read more

I had read a lot of horror stories with renting golf carts on Culebra but we needed to rent one. Took a little while for the shuttle to pick us up from the airport even though they are basically across the street from the airport. There was quite a line when we arrived but it moved pretty smoothly Once I got my cart, the attendant ran through whatever instructions he was giving so fast that I basically needed to figure out how to use the cart on my own. I also had to track down someone to report some damage that I found on the cart before I left as I had read some of the reviews of damage being charged even though it was from a previous rental. At first the attendant said it wasn't an issue but I still asked for him to notate the damage so I would not have any issues when I return and he did. I returned the cart after my day in Culebra and there were no issue. I am happy to report I have no horror stories with my golf cart rental. read more

Scam warning!! They will give you their oldest golf carts. These are dangerous. Brakes don't work. We were left stranded due to a torn drive belt. Carlos Rental doesn't answer calls after business hours and they don't respond to emails. On their paperwork, their is a cell phone number. But no one answers and no one responds to text messages. Increíble that this rental place is not sensible for their reality. Most of Culebra is under a partial lockdown and I requested to move my reservation from New Years Eve to February. They have already charged $20 for the original reservation and now they want to charge $20 more for the new February reservation. Every other company in the travel industry have waived their restrictions due to the circumstances (COVID 19) that's affecting the whole world. We rented two Jeeps at Carlos this past Friday for the weekend. Initially, we rented a two-door Jeep and a four-door Jeep. The smaller Jeep had a flat spare tire, the passenger seat belt did not function (it was frozen in place) so the seat belt warning indicator beeped at us constantly for a day, and the check engine light was on. Plus, we were kind of cramped in the Jeep. So I went back to Carlos Jeep Rental Saturday morning and informed them of the issues with the Jeep. They were quick to get me a new and bigger Jeep! This time, I received a four-door, red, 2015 Jeep with only 300 miles on it! Woot! These Jeeps were fun to drive and you'll need them to get to some of the remote beaches on the island. There are several dirt roads that will challenge the Jeep in 4-wheel drive, which was so fun. Besides Flamenco Beach, renting these Jeeps was the most fun I had this weekend in Culebra. The staff was very friendly and the courtesy bus to and from the ferry was terrific. read more

Everyone was nice upon arrival and check-in. However, as we were departing the parking lot, we noticed the inner overhead lights were on. I asked two of the guys who work there how to turn them off and they said that it stays on after driving for a little bit my husband and I knew that that was not correct and it's not safe. It totally impairs your vision when it's dark and you're trying to find your way so we figured out how to shut off those lights. The sensor for the gas can be affected if the jeep is parked at an incline, which they did not tell us, so we totally were freaking out the next morning, thinking that it was on empty and we were barely going to make it to a gas station so then we ended up putting way more gasoline in the car than needed/overpaying. The last thing about this place that I really disliked is the fact that they told us we would get a complementary ride or taxi back to the ferry station after we drop the jeep off. so when the taxi came to pick us up, he ended up charging us a fee per person, and then I called and left a voicemail twice and no one ever got back to me. This place is very frustrating and they never answer your phone calls. I don't know if I will go back here Again or recommend. read more
