I wish I could tender a more positive recommendation, but I cannot on account of a rather hefty price for what was, ultimately, a product that simply rested on its presentation. Quality of ingredients, while possibly in the upper tier, was not clearly so; and was definitely inability to resist negative marks on account of lesser quality of execution and concept. The recipes are quite basic and simple, offering nothing novel nor exceptional; and the execution of such did not have the requisite pizzaz one would expect based on such beautiful appearance. As a purveyor of sweets, it is difficult for anything to be outright "bad", but this place is definitely not satisfying and does not hit the spot. My recommendation is to grab some Pepe's Pizza and then perhaps find another spot, on or off the premises, to satisfy your sweet tooth. read more

It was pretty bad. The eggs were chewy, the croissant was soggy, and the has brown was mushy and dried out all at the same time. We attended the New England Tattoo Expo this weekend at Mohegan Sun. Carlo's Bakery was conveniently located at the entrance of the expo center. The staff was extremely helpful and they were so sweet. We ordered an m&m cookie, nitro cold brew and 2 Turkey Mozzarella sandwiches, it all came to under $40. The Turkey Motz were seriously delicious. The Turkey was thinly sliced and piled on there, fresh mozzarella and maybe some sun dried tomato spread. It was toasty and melty and full of flavor. the only thing lacking was the cookie, but I think it's just because we came later in the day and they weren't as super fresh. read more

The location is great, the pastry displays are amazing, the desserts are spot on....yet I barely seen anyone at the counter or any employee at that time. I'm not going to complain about the price which was high and I would gladly pay that for high quality baked goods. But to pay a high price and get low quality was too much. The eclair was stale, and the cream was not fresh. The cookie was not very flavorful and needed much more peanut butter. There were 2 staff working the counter and only one was taking orders. There was only 1 person ahead of us and we still waiting over 10 minutes to complete our transaction. Overall I would definitely say these are not worth the calories or the time. We ordered a box of cookies, a piece of strawberry cheesecake and a box of mixed cannolis! My only issue was that I stood at the counter for what seemed like a long time (probably wasn't that long in reality) and nobody waited on me. I was the only customer at the counter and I don't know why nobody would take my order. I even took a picture of the counter area to show I was the only one there. I tell you what, this place is HARD to walk by and not stop for a cannoli. I love that they fill them fresh. So that the pastry isn't soggy when you get it. There are a lot of other options, too. But, cannoli is my very favorite. The staff is pleasant and friendly. The options are varied. The scent wafts over to you as you are entering or leaving the Earth Entrance. Stop in. They really do only make a limited number of cannoli during the day, so, you might have to get a cookie. But, that's the risk of fresh. They offer the cannoli in two forms. A traditional and a chocolate covered. Thus far I have only had the traditional. I'll update when I've had the chocolate covered. But I expect it also to be delicious. I also get the pepper biscuits. We came back later to try desert after dinner and I waited in line at the register like I did that morning with my credit card out ready to place my order and the employees never bother to tell me that now the line didn't start at the register like it did in the morning it started somewhere else. Buddy delivers decent Italian pastry - I'm as shocked as you are, especially since Carlo's has now swelled up to eleven locations. I watched Cake Boss when it first premiered, but I never bothered going to the original Carlo's in Hoboken because (1) it became a tourist trap, and (2) I live in NYC and have some of the best Italian bakeries at my disposal. However, we were at Mohegan and my curiosity got the best of me when I discovered there was a Carlo's here. A lot of reviews talk about crazy lines with a number system to place your order - I saw the red ticket dispenser but when I approached Carlo's a little after 10am there was no line. This particular Carlo's is set up more like a counter service place - think food court in the mall setup. In addition to the pastries they sell Cake Boss souvenirs and books Buddy has written. They also have an area with tables so you can sit and enjoy your sweets. I picked up a few things to take home - lobster tails, cannoli, napoleon, and a couple of Linzer tarts. The pastries were good - the cannoli especially was a highlight because they're filled to order, plus they have regular shells and chocolate-covered ones. Having relatively low expectations, I was surprised at the quality of the baked goods, they weren't the best I've had but definitely above average. I'm not running back to any Carlo's at the moment, but it's nice to know the pastries live up to the hype. read more
